My Hun and I took our first Mediterranean cruise, a 7-night Western Mediterranean Cruise based out of Barcelona, Spain on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas. We had a wonderful time, but there are a few things I have to share if you are planning your first cruise, like:

In the weeks leading up to your cruise, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Almost an over hydration type thing. Then continue it while on your cruise. Sure you’ll have to use the restroom a little bit more. It’s so worth it though. You’ll keep your energy and stamina up while on the cruise. Feel free to incorporate the Liquid IV packets too. Game changing!
Yes! When you start to feel thirsty it’s a sign that you’ve been dehydrated for a while. Don’t wait until the cruise to start getting those liquids in - start early! Thanks, Chris!! 👍🏽👏🏽😊

I liked how you explained the difference in cruisers compared to those on Caribbean cruises.
Another tip: if you are able to, get a one way cruise so that you can extend your cruise in different countries. For example, start from Rome end in Barcelona, so you can spend a few days in those cities. Your cruise itinerary includes those cities but in reality, you are only embarking and disembarking from those cities and won’t spend much time there unless you extend your vacation there.

The problem with someone doing the laundry is so many clothes in the uk say do not tumble dry so I would be concerned they would be ruined. We don’t tumble dry to the same degree as the usa, particularly summer when we’d dry outside so no need to be tumble dry safe. I’d be really worried everything came back tiny 😂 I take my own liquid and do some bit dry on cool or hang in the cabin as the air con helps to dry it. We are on our first Mediterranean cruise in a few weeks time so starting to get excited now
Thanks for the info Tracey! Wow, I don’t blame you - if the tag says do not tumble dry I’d be concerned about my clothes turning into doll outfits, too 👗 . I’ve also seen some people hang clothes on the balcony chairs, but I wouldn’t leave anything expensive out there because it may fly away, lol 😂 Thankfully there are hanging lines in the bathroom and clothes tend to dry quickly. She’s right. It is a lot of work to see what you want especially if incorporating public transportation. Definitely recommend the train and like she says give yourself plenty of time to catch the return train especially in Rome. It is worth it though. One of the best cruises we’ve been on. Go to chinquaterra in La Spezia and Pompei in Naples. Be careful if touring the Amalfi coast. The narrow roads through the mountains are notorious for traffic jams. Hire a private driver who understands the traffic patterns. Just came back May 29th off Symphony of Seas. The history is incredible but you’ll only enjoy a small sample with the limited time

@@FrolicAndCourage We are also doing Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Cairo three days before embarking on the cruise..as part of my wife's extended retirement celebration. Have you been there yet and have videos you haven't uploaded yet?? We have been to London, Paris, Barcelona in the past as well as Venice, Florence and Pompeii, but did not have the foresight to record our adventures via a Vlog. We also sailed on the Wonder of the Seas back in March (to St. Thomas and St Kitts). so we have experience the "wonder and greatness" of that ship as you and your hun have.

Plus, depending on the cruise line, there are special events for solo travelers. What I love about solo travel is the freedom and flexibility. If you want to have alone time it is easy to get. If you want to be social, there are group tours and plenty of activities. You get the best of both worlds 👏🏽

Heyyy Johnnyjay! 👋🏽 thank you so much! Yes, there are activities for single travelers - but it truly depends on the cruise line. On our cruise there were a few dedicated “singles meetups” hosted by the cruise line. Plus there are activities that group people together, like the late night game shows and quizzes so you have the opportunity to meet people 🙂

We are leaving if from Italy on royal Caribbean Mediterranean cruise, visiting Greece, Turkey and Italy.. been looking at excursion.. wonder if we can go on like in Santorini and Mykonos, instead of buying excursion. We are thinking of a Med cruise mostly Greek Island, Italy; we would like to leave from Barcelona (but realize that might not work out), but my biggest question is is there a "slow" cruise, where we can take long days or even two days, more leisurely pace (we are both over 60)? I think it depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for, Marcela. Royal Caribbean is fabulous and family friendly. Carnival is known for being fun and a bit of a party ship. Disney is luxurious while celebrity is peaceful and spa-like, but it all depends on who is sailing, too!
What do you consider hot??? In the south, 90+ degree with 90% humidity is the norm during the summer.
Hey Leroy! Hot can vary by location. Southern heat w/ humidity is different from west coast dessert heat which is different from Caribbean heat or Middle East heat. I’ve been in them all and consider all to be hooootttt! ☀️ 🔥

Great tips! From your experience, are there things to do close to the ports within walking distance? I know most of the Italian port, you’ll need to travel about an hour to get into the city, but what about the other port of calls?
Thank you, Jean! Great question! The other ports were not as far away. Palma de Mallorca is about 3 miles from the port to the city center and Marseille is about 5 miles. In Palma, you're really close to the Marina so if you enjoy watching sailboats its really nice, but if you want more you'll have to travel deeper within the city. In Marseille there are a few things to do in the outskirts of town, but all the activity is a few more miles in.

Thanks for following along on our travels! It all depends on your energy levels 🔋 Whenever I have a long, late night flight I do everything in my power to sleep on the flight then stay up the full day when we arrive to adjust to the new time zone. That way I am READY to sleep at the right time. If I’m super sleepy and can’t function, worst case scenario I take a 1-2hr nap but no more than that. I would definitely schedule a 1/2 day of activities a decent amount of time after my flight arrives then wing the rest of the day. Explore, grab food, learn how to get around, etc.
I am scheduled for a European cruise from April 28- May 15. I will be getting off in England for a few days and then fly back from there to the US . I want to pack enough clothes but already l think am overpacking any suggestions as to what to pack?
Your cruise is coming up, soon Heather! England might be a little chilly, so I’d recommend a convertible jacket (a waterproof one with a hood and with layers that can zip off), and comfy walking shoes. What countries does your European cruise stop at?

We took a medium-sized checked bag for our 7 night cruise. It all depends on how much you want to pack and carry with you 🙂

Hey Tesa! It depends on your country’s requirements, but if you’re coming from the US all you need is your passport 🙂 while on the ship you’ll need your sea pass card

Hey T A - we went on the cruise in late May, so the sun was def present! ☀️ I added each stop on our cruise to the weather app on my phone a few weeks before we left so I could track the temperature (and so I could pack!) I think this will help you decide what to wear based on the weather, since your cruise is a week away and the temperature is predicted about 10 days out. Always bring a light rain coat for London and pack layers that you can add or remove based on the weather. The Mediterranean stops are likely to be pleasant early May.

Yup! Summer 2022 it sailed the Mediterranean as part of its European debut, but as of Nov 2022 it sails from Port Canaveral.

My wife and I are staying at the InterContinental Barcelona. We usually stay at InterContinental brand hotels and we've found them to be great everywhere we've been.

Just back from Barcelona and we stayed at H10 hotel - clean, comfortable and staff was very helpful. Took taxi to and from.

if you cannot speak multiple languages eastern europe asia south america africa take excursions. western european most people can do broken english. tipping outside usa is an optional bonus not wage replacement
Excursions are a great way to meet people - plus the guides are typically fluent speakers - great tip 👍🏽
Do you need dollars or euros for the casino?
Great question - I didn’t play at the casino but I believe the casino charges your sea pass card, so no euros are needed.

TIP ... Don't take "Copies" of your passport on excursions. Take your actual passport.
If you are left behind in a port without your actual passport you are screwed if you need to fly home or to another port.
To take a passport/copy while getting off the boat or not to take a passport/copy…the great debate!
If you’re on a cruise affiliated excursion do they guarantee they’ll wait for you so you don’t have to worry about not making it back?
