  • Artist, Giles Whitehead talks about his life long interest in artists' books, providing a brief history along with his own influences in creating artist books. Beginning with illuminated manuscripts, William Blake to Dada, Fluxus and beyond. The film provides a personal glimpse into this fascinating artform.
    Artists’ books featured in this video include flick books by Benoit Jacques (purchased in an art gallery in Bruges), Journey to the Centre of the Earth altered book by Vaishali Pathak from an exhibition at County Central Library, Maidstone, Objet’s Dungeness by Jamie Oliver and Giles Whitehead, Twentysix Gasoline Stations by Ed Ruscha, Water Yam by George Brecht, Objects from India by Tony Hayward and images published in the book Altered Books, Collaborative Journals and Other Adventures in Bookmaking by Holly Harrison.

      My daughter was studying book art for her art GCSE and after I couldn’t find anything, I thought I’d better make one myself!

    I have a watercolor notebook I use when I travel, but I'm going to have to figure out how to incorporate some of your travel book ideas into it! This was very fun and also reminds me of a lot of homemade zines.

      Definitely, making travel journals is a such a fun thing to do and always interesting to look back on as a reminder of your journey.
