We adopted our Siberian Husky from our local animal shelter. She was a little bit if a handful when we first got her. She was young and had to get through the toddler stage, but with patience and training and love she has become the love of our lives. I can't imagine life without her. She has learned a lot of things just as we have about her. What a joy in our lives. Don't take on a beautiful animal like this unless you are willing to commit the time and training to them. Not to mention the time spent in caring for them. The blowout of hair they have and keeping them brushed. She is another member of our family. I think she ended up in the shelter because someone had her who was not committed to spending the time needed in caring for and training her. Such a shame as she has become a beautiful creatures and worth every minute of time we have put into her. I love your videos and have learned so much from them. My best to you and your beautiful furry friends. 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😝😝😝😝😝❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We just adopted an 8 year old Siberian Husky with a serious ear and skin issues kdue to improper care.
No one would have taken on this costly affair plus trice weekly baths, vet bills, etc.
We are a young 80+ couple who have owned Siberian’s in the past. We think she knows how good she has it
At our home. She is a sweetheart and much loved.

We adopted our female husky from a shelter. Now we got another husky, it’s a male. Our female is mixed with German Shepard and husky, we had her for 5 years now. Now male husky was left in a bandit apartment and had tick’s all through his body, so we decided to take it to a shelter until he was ready to adopt. So we brought home our new husky, we name him ‘blue’. One thing about husky’s ,there smart dogs but it take’s awhile to train them and a lot of patience. I like your videos, its helpful information. One thing with blue we learn when he barks at you that something he gets hold of, we distract him with treat’s to let go and concentrate on treat.

We just got our husky pup from an AKC cert breeder a week ago...he is the best thing ever and we can’t get enough of him (ok, maybe we have had enough of his “talking” at night)!! Your content has helped us SO much as we crate train him, etc. thank you! We love the idea of rescuing, but have 2 older, but really little dogs at home and after much research and conversations with experienced people, we felt it was best for our husky and our other dogs to get a puppy with no prior home experiences. We hope to adopt another in the future once are little guys are no longer with us. What a special, fun breed...I wish everyone knew how amazing huskies are!! Dream dogs if you like social, energetic family dogs!!

Hey Sixty Formula, luv ur channel and videos! I am from Romania and here are more stray dogs than people and still people buy dogs. We adopted Daisy (sib.husky) one year ago, actually she was running on the streets as the neighbour didn't have any more time to take care of her (she was jumping over all fences). We took good care of her, but she is suffering from severe separation anxiety, and very soon we will have our first newborn baby, so new challenges ahead to keep her balanced and calm. I wonder if you have any tips and tricks in these cases (husky & newborn). Thanks so much :D

With my first dog that I have, he is a Chihuahua Miniature Pinscher mix that my mom got from one of her friends and the person wasn't taking care of him and he was really sick when we got him so I don't know if he is considered a rescue or not, I got him about 7-8 years ago, my second dog is a wired haired Jack Russell mix that I rescued about 4 years ago, and my third dog is a AKC registered Siberian Husky that I bought about three weeks ago. I think rescuing dogs/puppies and buying them will still help me out either way, whether you buy or not you can never tell what kind of person the person is that buys the dog or puppy or adopts it it really will just depend on the person if you do go to a shelter to adopt a dog or buy one you are still helping it out because you are still getting it to a good home. I feel like if you buy a dog it's most likely going to be a purebred that you paid a lot for and with that you have probably done lots of research on the breed and know what you are getting yourself into, so I feel like when you buy one for a lot of money you are a lot less likely to get rid of it since you know what you are getting yourself into. But either way, if you love dogs then you shouldn't get rid of them in the first place unless you absolutely have no chose, which really just depends on the person, since you can never tell why someone got rid of one.

Everyone has the choice to Buy A dog from a responsible and reputable Breeder. Or adopt a dog. There are pros and cons to each. Those who want a specific breed, with a specific temperament, and want to “build up a dog”. Would more than likely buy from a breeder. There are times where you adopt a dog and it may have separation anxiety, and other problems that weren’t resolved. That dog may not get along with young children, cats or other dogs.
For example I adore Doberman pinchers, I want a specific temperament, energy level, and I want that dog to look a certain way. I’d want to build that dog up to fit my lifestyle. You won’t find many dogs like that in a shelter or a rescue. I’d be more than happy to adopt if I come across a dog like this, but it would be rare.

Just stumbled upon your channel, I’ve always wanted a husky and I’ve found some at shelters nearby and started doing research.
A lot of people would recommend a different breed for first time dog owners but I really think they are beautiful dogs and was wondering what your opinion is on a husky as a first time dog owner? I have a 5 year old, I’m home during the day, wife is home in the evening, but we’ve never trained before, what’s your take man?

  • @davidmelms4776

We adopted a retired sled dog (Alaskan husky) four years ago. It has been awesome! He’s learned to live in a city and embraces the combination of his couch potato and outdoor life. Our dog was 9 when we adopted him, yet sled dogs can live to be 12-16 years old because of their ‘marathon lifestyle’. Again, research is huge with these dogs and finding the right temperament post-sled life is key with these huskies. We believe it’s worth considering if you’re okay with it being a shorter window of life with them to get a trained, more low key, and highly loyal retired sled dog. There are at least dog sledding outfitters in Minnesota that commonly retire them around age 7-10 years old.

I spent about 2 years researching huskies, while I was in the study and I heavily noticed people literally don’t do their research. When it comes to something that is living and it can suffer, you should know there is a lot of commitment and responsibility. Now I know 2 years is a little much for researching, and it’s because a husky would be my very first pet and I want to be the very most prepared and so should everyone else getting a dog. If everyone was responsible dog owner we wouldn’t have this issue but of course, there is always going to be that one idiot. And we should not only we rescue dogs but educate the newer generation or anyone so hopefully, all of this cruelty can be phased out.
Sixty Formula if you are reading this, I am new and subscribed your channel. It would be the very most best if you tell my statement to the community. Because really most owners don’t just neglect their pets, it is because of poor research and education.

You hit a nerve, Mister...This is a complicated issue. Many breeders are causing more problems for all the rescues because of all the new boutique cross breeds. Sure I'll explain it here. Basically, when I got B-spears he was bullied by hila, and he looked like a cute little helpless pup. So everyone loved him and would say LEAVE HIM ALONE! HES AMAZING, LEAVE HIM ALONE! Which, reminded me of the video Chris Crocker posted about Britney Spears where he cried and said the same thing. So long story short, we named him Britney Spears. Hope that clarifies it!

Edie is from a breeder - got her 2nd hand at 4 months. If she hadn't fallen into my lap, I moght not have a dog at all now and here's why:
Rescues are extremely impressed with themselves. 5 pages of questions that are quite personal and intrusive just to MEET a dog has rubbed me the wrong way entirely. Home visits, 4 references - PLUS your vet, list all animals you have owned, age at death, cause of death... do you smoke, do you smoke at home, hours worked, shifts worked...
If you have the patience to do all of this to MEET A DOG, go for it. But that's a lot of hoops and for me to "shop" for a dog from a rescue means this interrogation happens several times. Not interested in being scrutinized by the "do gooders" AND paying 500-600 while hoping they find ME worthy of saving a dog. I have a life to live and so do my references. If I go through all of this to meet a dog and the dog isn't right, everyone has to go through it ALL again; which in my mind kind of forces you into either taking a dog you aren't matched with or recoiling all together.
I am so turned off by the rescues. I'm shelling out the cash, I ask the questions. Shopping for a dog means *I* am the customer.
But for those of you that don't mind... have at it! 💙

I think why pro rescue people get upset is there are so many people who irresponsibly buy dogs for the looks (or just on a whim)- especially pretty breeds like huskies. I have a bred french brittany and a rescue queensland heeler mix and I have recently.....procured a husky not on purpose from some people who thought he was beautiful but don't have even the slightest idea how to train a dog (his third home so far and I don't even think he's a year old). And they live in an apartment. Good luck with this boi (who is actually pretty mild mannered for a husky I believe), but still SUPER high energy. He does well at my house because I have two similar aged dogs and property, but as much as I like him I'm not really interested in having a third dog (emotionally yes, but logically no). Regardless I'll make sure I help to find a responsible appropriate home for him and will foster him indefinately, (he definitely is the sweetest boi). On the other hand it takes special people and a special commitment to properly raise a resue dog. I think we should restrict breeding and have more specialized testing of dogs that are appropriate to breed, we could fix a lot of the temperament issues we see in dogs. If you spend any time at shelters you'll see how inundated we are with pitbulls and chihuahuas as well which, I love both breeds, but we clearly have far too many and could use some selective breeding laws. Most people honestly have no business breeding dogs- it takes some skill, experience, and commitment to breed dogs successfully and a lot of people do it for the paycheck and not the love of dogs and their welfare.

Hi Hayley! I also live in an apartment and was worried about the same things that you are now. I had my house cat and wanted to rescue an adult husky but I was scared if he/she wouldn’t get along with my cat and as i never had a dog before so everybody was against me to rescue a husky. This was about a year ago. I couldn’t rescue my husky from a dog shelter, because I never had a dog before. While I was preparing myself for the dog and doing my research about how to intoduce him/her to my cat so home would be safe, I also started to search for a husky people left to steet or want to give to someone else on online pet rescue platforms. I found my dog, left on the street through an Instagram post, I met her and brought her home. It took 2 months for my cat and my dog to completaly get used to each other. I educeted myself about intoduction process before and it worked like a magic! You just have to take your time and learn all about intoducing them to each other completaly. Also bringing your friend who will help you, to rescue center and proving them that you have financal securities etc. to take care of a dog will also improve your chances of letting them you to rescue one. I’m completaly not against buying but i think you would also be more comfortable trying everything you can to rescue before buy, as you said this is your main intention. Sorry for answering so long. If you want to learn more about how i did it you can contact me and i would be more than happy to help. Have a nice journey with your litte pouches :)

I 100% agree. Personally when I get a dog, I’ll look into local shelters and rescues before I go to a breeder. Getting a dog from a breeder is not bad unless you make sure the breeder is responsible. Make sure that you aren’t supporting a puppy mill. I’ve had a very bad experience adopting from a shelter, and I hesitate to adopt another animal from them. There are responsible breeders out there who love their dogs. There is a breeder near me who donate a certain number of puppies every year to be service dogs for disabled children. That is a breeder I would love to support.

I agree. Please buy from a responsible breeder... Husky's are known to have a few health issues (like alot of doggos) we bought from our friends AKC cert. dog who got preggers with a neighbor husky(mystery background) ... Well I did the Embark DNA test and the results gave him a full bill of health only to find out 3 weeks after the results came in he is developing juvenile cataracts. (he was just over a year old at the time) That's a $6,000 surgery for those who don't know. I love my doggo so much he is like my son! While we want do the surgery in the future there are other complications that come with it. He is on a special diet and eye drop schedule and supplements. Please please buy from responsible breeders and pay that extra bit of money. They make sure the genetics are clean of any hereditary issues... It can hurt your pocket and really damage your dog's quality of life.
Btw my Ragnar looks just like your Hela. He just has some black doggo freckles on the bridge of his nose. ❤ any his eyes aren't the pretty clear blue they once were as we are trying to help heal and slow down the process of cataracts and inflammation...

I have always adopted dogs. Even when I was younger, my family always adopted dogs. I will say, we had some rough patches with dogs that either had health issues, or temperament issues. BUT. That could happen even with a dog bought from a breeder. I am aware of this. I did choose to buy my current husky from a breeder though. I have been given so much grief over it, and it's upsetting. I also have one rescue cat, and a hairless cat purchased from a breeder. And again, people give me so much hell for it. BUT I will never give my animals up. Not for anything. I love all of them equally and I am always prepared to do whatever it takes to keep them happy and healthy. I think that's the important part. I see people adopting / buying dogs all the time who can't actually take care of them. The most common thing I see around where I live, is people adopting huskies, then rehoming them because they "don't have the time to care for them." Or they weren't prepared for how much work it would be. I think that as long as you are prepared to be RESPONSIBLE, buy or adopt. Just don't give the dog up when things don't go as planned.

Growing up my family always adopted. My fiancé’s dream dog was a husky so we did our research and found a breeder because finding a purebred husky puppy in a shelter near us was next to impossible. We want our next dog to be a shelter dog because there are so many that need love and a chance to have a great home. Either way where ever we decide to get our next dog it will have a loving home.

There are often huskies at shelters, don't assume there aren't any! Always go and check. Huskies are actually brought to shelters quite often, but because they're expensive dogs, they're often adopted quickly by more responsible families. :)

Why did you choose to buy from a breeder Sixty Formula? I want a husky and have researched the breed for years, but have no experience with arctic breeds. I want to rescue but it seems like I won't be able to because of the requirements of adopters, most require experience and I also live in an apartment which sucks... I don't know what to doooo

If somebody haven't any special (sport, ...) ambitions and wants only have a dog around, then adoption can be an option BUT in such case, you have a dog with unknown "service history" and your chance of spending A LOT of money because of health problems or A LOT of nerves because of behavioral problems is substantially higher in comparison with pedigree dog from a good breeder.
Even pedigree dogs aren't immune to any problems but chances are much smaller taking into account all the countermesures (HD/ED X-ray examinations, genetic tests for eye problems, ...) taken. I suppose all of us would like to have a good times with our dogs and not seeing a vet as long as possible.
Adoptions are often seen as low-cost option but only to the moment of first veterinary bill.

I think the main issue is that the owner dosent know how to handle the puppy and when they grow up to a dog they get out of control. And this goes to buying or rescue a dog. If there were a plan were the owner goes to train/learn how to train a puppy and care for it before they are able to own the pup then they get like a license or something that allow them to purchase/rescue the dog. Then have a follow up to see how far his fog is maybe 1mon apart. This will help reduce the dog that need rescue.

The way i see it is that each has its pitfalls. Breeders are expensive and require alot of research while adoption is a risk bc you do not know much about the dog you are adopting. As a dog shelter employee ive seen dogs that are great. Im currently housing a rescue dog thats super sweet . that being said if you decide to adopt a dog make sure you spend alot of time with that dog before you take it home. Alot of animals that are put up for adoption are rescues that come from all walks,of life. Some are good with kids others are a one human kind of dog. Either way you will be putting many hours into research.

I think the reason people get radical is they hear that breeders are all bad, they are not all bad. In pa, there have been quite a lot breeder farms and the poor dogs were in cages, quite horrible! The places you don't want to buy from are the pet stores, it's likely that the dogs are from a breeder farm. There's a place near that is a breeder and can visit her kennel and see the mom and her babies. Really nice place.

I will always rescue first but if you been looking for a dog for long time in a shelter and haven't found the certain breed or personality that you are looking for and you have been searching over a year then I would start looking at breeders and seeing if they have adult dogs available or older puppies like for example say you are looking for a young French bulldog as they are not very common in shelters you may want to go to a breeder instead. Also the thing about shelters is that they most of time dont ship so if you find a dog that is perfect for you in a shelter in Florida but they can't ship it now you have to wait and hope your application get chosen for a shelter dog near you. Also there are some shelters you don't adopt out to families with kids under 7 without even finding out If the dog is good with young kids or not which is stupid. There are good thing and bad things about shelters and rescues but when you adopt or buy you know you are going to have a best friend for life .

I sort of adopted my Siberian Husky from a breeder. He has an overbite and she was breeding "champion bloodline," so couldn't sell him. I took him at 6 weeks for free. I believe that if I had not taken him he would have been put in a shelter or euthanized. She was a pretty responsible breeder (took good care of her dogs). I don't recommend her though, though Nuka is my baby. I would have adopted from my local shelter, but I have two small dogs and cats, as well as and my niece and nephew. I (at the time) was looking for a service dog. I didn't want to take the risk of a sketchy past or whatever.

Hey Sixty. I love your vids. I recently adopted a 9 Yr old Siberian Husky from the Dogs Trust in the UK. He's my 3rd rescue husky in 20 years. I do see your point, however, I'm concerned about the, 'breeders'. In the UK we have an organisation called The Kennel Club. I'm very worried about so called breeders who churn out 10 husky pups at $2000 per pup. This goes for any breed. Example-my friend bought a Rhodhesian Ridgeback pup for $2000. The so called breeder had 11 pups. All sold. $22,000. No affiliation to The Kennel Club. A business? You bet!
I know what you are saying, but it seems to me that people are making easy money from their so called pets.
I'd be interested in your thoughts,
    Peace.

If I don't think I can properly train a rescued dog and could end up giving it up in the end, buying a puppy is being responsible. I have rescued my husky, and i have friends who bought theirs and according to my personal experience there are some differences. A husky who is rescued have a not very good past. If you have a plan to have one you should be capable of taking care of the emotional healing process of the dog with care. One year in the rescue, the rescue dog will be just a regular dog with more appreciation of your care. When you buy a husky as they don’t know about the outside world or steets, they will be more curious and it might make them more tend to try to run away. As i have observed, huskies who are bought are more athletic, rescue dogs need time, exercise and care to be back to athletic. When people buy, they mostly buy puppies and when people rescue, it is more likely to be an adult dog. It is very debatable but i thing an adult dog is more adventegous for a first time dog owner. When the dog is an adult, you know their behaviors and character before you adopt them, they are not very likely to change in time, so you can pick the dog that fits your lifestle and have no bad surprises. When you get a puppy, you don’t exacly know what they are gonna turn out to be, energy level vise or character vise, so you have to be very very prepared for every option and be capable of organising your life according to every option. I also find raising any type of living thing, from babyhood, to be very hard.
