    when it comes to the tool vs weapon debate, the way I look at it is that weapons fall under the category of tool anyways. if a tool is something that helps you do something, then a weapon is a tool too. we call it a weapon to specify it's intended purpose. people treat the argument as if "weapon" and "tool" are at opposite ends of a spectrum, when really they're all tools anyways, just different kinds for different purposes.

    Really good review. All the other vids never went into the practicality of it, the stuff that matters. Ty!!

    Moral of the story. A stick is better than a fist. A knife is better than a twig. A gun is better than a knife. And living anywhere in the US is better than being in Detroit.

    Here in Arizona knives are regarded as tools not as weapons. Doesn’t matter what blade style, length or type of opening mechanism so in that regard I don’t leave the house without one.
    Because the way I see it, the world is an unpredictable place and I never know if I’ll have to deploy my otf to either defend myself or someone else.
    Or in the case of 99% of people who own one open more boxes containing knives or the occasional Amazon package.

    The blade play was the one piece of info I just couldn’t find until I saw your video. I bought a guardian tactical and it’s got a tad of play and I didn’t know if that was normal. Appreciate the knowledge.

    Great video, thank you. knew a guy who checked power meters for a living. His company made them carry a yellow umbrella to scare away mean dogs. You flash the umrella open and closed in front of the dog to scare it away. He said it worked well. You can also have a sharpened point on the umbrella

    I could never get the blade put and in again with so little pressure. I have to really press the button hard and then it shoots out so fast. Maybe it will get easier with time but it's insane how much pressure you need to deploy it

    Once you get one, you will never go back. I have Bokers, Gerber, Benchmade and Microtech autos. I carry the Bokers because their actions are my favorite and they are very reasonably priced. My Boker daily was actually made by Hogue.

    My Boker (Kalashnikov) OTF, the one you’re showing arrived two days ago, along with my Guardian Tactical 035. Two weeks ago, my Microtech Ultratech arrived. Love them all but my Guardian Tac. 035 is smooth as butter. Plus, no switch “rattle” as my Ultratech. Still, love them all. Have two USB Bokers after giving my third to a friend. Carry the USB at work due to my state’s regulations. Looking to get the Guardian Tac. 040 but everyone is sold out.
    I believe OTFs are both TACTICAL and PRACTICAL. 👍🏻👍🏻

      The 040 are sold out but will slowly come back in stock, GT is catching up on their orders. A lot of Recon Elites in stock though! They are both I agree however many think there's zero practical use for them.

    after your video no way would I place a folder in my pants. I plan to step up to a otf however since it's my first I'll start w/ a $35. amazone.what do you think.

    I would say as a tool they are great, I work with a lot of saw dust so it tends to clog up the mechanism but its an easy fix with oil and a air compressor 8/10 for carry tool, but for self defense though I would say carry a firearm and if possible conceal carry.
    Of course carry within the means of the law

    I live across the street from Detroit been shanked twice so far lol 😂 I’m getting an ultratech but I started with a lighting not a big fan but for a budget otf I’d say Tac knives has the best budget otf for the price but if you want a premium otf I’d say microtech,Hadrian tactical,or the one I got my eye on next the axial shift

    I'm going to take a guess that you like OTF knives. You got a few, lol. Like your videos. One thing, I don't think anywhere in the U.S. it is illegal to own as long as it is on your property. It is illegal to carry in many places.

    Do be honest yes otf is only for defense but it can be used as a tool just understand the downside of having a open port knife

  • @chris.eskimo
    @chris.eskimo 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As far as accidental deployment? You REALLY need to MEAN it to apply the force necessary to deploy a reputable OTF knife!

  • @gingebrien2408
    @gingebrien2408 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dude I carry a microtech Combat Troodon daily. Love the knife. But unlike my flippers, one needs to maintain it. If fuzz from your pocket builds up, you could find yourself with an OTF that doesn’t deploy. That is the only downside.

    also cant forget the fact that otf's cant shoot into stuff it derails and cant be used as like a launching mechanism, say like assassins creed. another feature to keep safe lolz and lets not forget some otf's even have a safety on them

  • @ozzlayer

    I often tell people that everything and anything is or can be a tool, BUT your intentions on how to use and what to use it for its what can make a weapon.
    Same example you used. I know a case of a man that caused severe harm to another individual with a fork. Is it a tool? Yes, is it legal? Yes, Is it practical? Yes, is it tactical? No...until that moment.

  • @mewithknives3481

    Due to the surrounding states laws I don't have any. I get your argument for them as far as quick and reliable deployment. For the guys you said were slicing themselves with folding knives I'd say shame on them if they're carrying it with blade facing the back of the pocket they shouldn't be cutting themselves and if they are they deserved it. 😉

    • @TacticalEverydayDad
      @TacticalEverydayDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He gives this advice so that he isn't liable for another individual's lack of regard for local knife laws. You want to laugh in the face of local knife laws? You want to possibly be arrested for carrying an illegal knife? Awesome, good for you, great job. We dont actually care that much if you take the advice or not, but i do care if you blab "i dont care, dont tell me what to do" stupidity

    For last 100 years when animals were more common and more savage people managed fine without getting ready to stab them. Their cool jewelry and carry what you want but lets not pretend it is needed for safety when more likely to traumatize another family and your own more than slapping a fool dog aside. If you do intend to stab those things gave worse stabbing grip than an old buck knife that served more people in harder times longer.

    It is very easy for people to forget that their big, goofy, friendly dog is only a couple centuries away from being a wolf. I have been accosted by loose dogs more times than I can remember, and my 6 month old twins were nearly mauled by a large black dog that was roaming our neighborhood a few years back. As a result, I am always armed when I'm with my children.
    Not trying to post an anti-dog rant, just more of a PSA. Folks, please confine your dogs. Dog attacks are no joke; they can (and will, and do) happen. It's not worth it.
