Butterflies for everyone! Do you mind passing this video along to all your friends? because the more butterflies there are in this world, the more rainbows they shall fart. true story... seriously tho, I hope you enjoy this video.
I work with Polymer Clay and have an Etsy shop myself and often need these tutorials to learn new thins. But I must say out of all the tutorial videos out there, ya know the fancy dancy ones, I absolutely love yours. I love the fact that you leave in the small bits of knowledge and explain everything that you're doing. I had no idea what a "Skinner blend" was and I've worked with Polymer Clay for several months now >.> I know there is so much more to learn with this medium as well as many others. Thank you sir! :D
Fabulous...most realistic butterfly I've ever seen. What a painstakingly beautiful process to get the blend over the whole wing instead of each piece. Brilliant! Thanks a bunch; I know the amount of time it took to edit this was immense.
Along with this being an awesome video (pause button and the "slow down" feature on all youtube videos aid in getting a better understanding of the process he went through), what I LOVED is how HONEST you were about how when you get to a certain point in cane making, one panics....no matter how experienced you are. The reducing part in particular....I love that you verbalized that. Cane making is never the exact same process twice, it requires flexibility, patience, the ability to keep in mind the end result and the willingness to risk doing things that MAY not work in the end. But when it does......ohhhhh YES! Thank you for this video!
Thank you! I have watched many cane tutorials but no one ever explains the steps this thoroughly. It is a beautiful design. I hope you continue to make tutorials. You are an excellent teacher.
I don't know where to start, except to say: Bloody brilliant video! Using the little leftover bits on the bottom of the wings? Inspired! I just pinned this with the label, "Absolutely the best poly clay video on TH-cam EVER!" Thank you SO much! I can't wait to get a chance to try this. Wonder if they'd notice if I didn't show up for work today?
+BL Raine Wow thank you so much!! omg thank you for sharing this, and for making my day.. And.. wait, what? No, you should go to work LOL or I dunno haha xD Seriously tho... I can't thank you enough!
+Polymer Clay Artist Went to work, kind of had to - boss is out of town on holiday. She is totally amazing & she really needed/deserved a week away, so I was happy to fill in for her. OK, that and I need the extra $$'s for more clay to practice butterflies. ;D You are totally welcome. Thank you again for the inspiration. Just 1 request -- more videos!
I really enjoy working with polymer clay and recently I was baking cookies in tubes and wondered if the cane application would work for cookie dough so I used this video to make butterfly wing cookies I made a whole tube I can freeze and bake whenever I want. They actually turned out really pretty just butter cookie dough slightly modified and food dye. Thanks for this tutorial!!!
The colour graduation effect and contrast with the black gives a totally gorgeous Tiffany glass effect. Thank you Tom for making this brilliant tutorial. I adore butterflies and am looking forward to trying this technique (with some trepidation) and making lovely jewellery pieces... fingers crossed. I will be watching all your other tutorials as you are a very talented artist and teacher with great ideas. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.
THANK YOU!! i've seen so many clay videos, canes and otherwise, and this is the first in a very long time that i've finished and ENJOYED!! i especially appreciate that you show your processes, and leave a link for the blend - that is time-consuming, so i appreciate not having to skip through that bit, and can go back for it later, lol!! my best friend does a lot of pc and would LOVE to see your stuff, so i will be sharing...BEST WISHES TO YOU, SIR; THANK YOU, AGAIN!!
Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow!!!! I’ve watch some amazing tutorials but this blew me away. So impressive. Thank you for sharing your technique. Definitely one I’d love to make but Wow, challenge.
You have created an awesome introduction to polymer, with a finished product worth learning all these techniques. Your editing technique is REALLY appreciated, for my students who, like me, that think, or want to, in 3D. Of course, wanting more butterflies in the world is a goal we share.....THANKS!!!!
That was incredible. I usually have a tutorial going on one monitor while I'm working on another, but this had me mesmerised and I never took my eyes off you. Your instructions are so clear. Keep up the great work!
This is about the most thorough and most introspective account of (your) process. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot about working with the flow. Thank yo for letting us in!
Sandra Wiatrowski You're welcome! I really did put a lot into this one and it's been getting 20+ views an hour for a week now! It's getting shared a lot and who knows it could go viral....!? I can keep dreaming lol! At any rate I couldn't be any happier with the response I got from both my fanbase and the general YT community. It's truly a pleasure! :D Now I should do it again but this time in 4K :D
Great video. I love that you voice over all of your thoughts, errors, and methods as the video goes through. Super helpful for all types of polymer clay projects. Thank you
I am new to polymer clay, although one of my daughters is quite good with it. I am a bit intimidated with the process you showed and grateful for the different angles and explanations you gave.
Good job with the cane & the tutorial. My first video of yours. I really liked the review of still shots at the end. Helps to reinforce the process. Nice touch.
Hey thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I'm just now returning to TH-cam and and haven't received a comment in 9 days which is not normal at all. So not only do I appreciate the kindness but also for reassuring nothing is broken here. Thanks again!
Great video!!! I've made several butterfly canes and i'm headed straight to the clay room to make this beautiful cane. Looking forward to more lessons from you. I know you put a lot of work into it and i want to thank you!
so glad that I saw this video, want to try this.. great information, would love to see longer videos, as I enjoy working and watching the videos while I work
This is hands down the best process video I have seen while learning to do new crafts. Thank you so much for an AWESOME tutorial! I worked along side of your steps and absolutely loved making it !
Excellent tutorial! Detailed efficiently and, definitely effectively explained. Your vocal descriptions are clear and covers everything!. is probably one of the best tutus I've seen.. Oh, BTW, exquisite results!
This makes so much sense now. I have watched many video's but either they stop with the beads, or get the different shades blended in and stop. For a newbie I want to see what happens step by step all the way to making a butterfly in this case. Very interesting and of course I love butterflies. Your video was excellent.
Beautiful result for all the time consuming hard work. I can never understand people who say they are bored when there is so much for us too do now days
+Lori Green Are you serious? Your words are very kind and make me want to start another cane. And thank you for helping the video like that it means alot.
You did such a thorough and incredible tutorial! Thank you so much for your time and providing all the detail of the steps you took in creating this beautiful butterfly.
Although this was made 3 years ago, I just wanted you to know it was super helpful to me as a newbie to PC. Thanks, nicely done with attention to detail. Much appreciated! Best Regards, Cheryl
Wow! I just found you and am bingggge watching your videos. I’m new to polymer clay, I was thinking about opening up an Etsy shop for like succulent and air plant arrangements because I used them for my wedding. Anyway, I got into polymer clay trying to make hair pieces that were more light weight. I am SO intrigued and I love your channel! Also I love the way you talk you seem so down to earth. Thanks for this knowledge!!
Literally just found this video and I am amazed!!! The patience you must have! It looks absolutely gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing your talent ❤️
Thank you! And I'm glad you found this video too! ...when I get my colored Cosclay this February I plan on making more cane work similar to this, just a heads up. :D
I have been watching butterfly videos for the past week gathering inspiration. Yours is the best one I've seen! Easy to follow & beautifully designed. Thanks for helping me with my project!
For some reason the cane thing just blows my mind. and being able to thin something to make it tiny but exactly the same as the bigger image u had before. :ooo
Micah Hirsch Thanks I appreciate the feedback!! It's crazy reading that cause actually in the future I plan on having extended versions of certain projects that could be purchased as a ad free download for maybe $1.99 or something lol Of course there would always be a shorter free versions here on youtube... it's just an idea I been thinking about for some time now.
Absolutely beautiful! I have never commented on a tutorial before, and I have watched many, but your's is wonderful. The butterfly is beautiful and the instructions are great. Please keep posting more.
this video was super helpful to watch, i love that you made everything super clear eg reasons why you’re doing things and how and how you thought of it, amazing amazing thank you
Thats a great Tutorial, probably one of the best I have ever seen. The way you describe and show everything is so helpful. It must have been hard to find a good camera ankle from wich you can record everything so good while still working without blocking the few with your hands. Thanks you very much for this tutorial. I haven't had the courage to do butterfly canes until now :)
Excellent video. Very clear and enjoyable to watch. It is magical how that butterfly emerges and looks so beautiful from all those smaller pieces. i am new to polymer clay; i haven't made anything yet as I want to observe and learn the skills and terms like 'skinner blend', cane, mokume garne. Your video is inspirational I have a way to go before I can do something that good but I look forward to the journey.
I enjoyed your video. It gives a very good guide for us new clay artist to follow. I am not ready for canes yet since I am very new to this. But when I do, I am going to refer back this video.
That was an astounding process to watch! I haven't yet started making my own polymer clay creations; no time! But I collect beautiful examples of it on Pinterest and share on Facebook, too. This tutorial gets top marks!
Polymer Clay Artist this is so incredible. I'm just a beginner. I would love to try doing it but I will have to wait till I'm much more advanced before I try. Thanks you very much.
