I don't see what the problem is. They are focusing more on story rather than hardcore gameplay, thats awesome. The whole deal about how the guy used the unreal engine to create a new logic that allowed for the development a new type of 3 dimensional sound is incredibly impressive.
Payton Poliakoff the 3d sound thing isn't new, lots of games have it, particularly shooters. But it's not usually implemented in such a deliberate, focused way.
The problem with focusing story over gameplay is there's not much replay value in many of them. I'd imagine the story will turn out good, but there's only so many times one can play through just for the story. Hopefully there's enough gameplay incentive to keep coming back. It's something Ninja Theory's good at, so it'll be a shame if that aspect isn't up to par.

In fact, games with high replay value either move it to multiplayer, or the actual story takes a hit from introducing so many "new, innovative ways to kill stuff". Every game has a soft cap on replayability, some just have a lower cap than others. That doesn't mean it's a bad game. It's simply designed differently.

I've always thought it's better to come up with a great character who happens to be a man or a woman rather than define them by their gender. From what I've seen so far, I'm digging the portrayal of Senua in this game. She seems like someone who really has to struggle through intense suffering; someone who is hurt and vulnerable, yet must find the inner strength to get through it. THAT is how you write a strong female character, not the generic "strong woman effortlessly breezes through everything while everyone around her marvels that she can be a woman and still do things" kind of heroine that the feminists think constitutes strong characterization. This game seems like a very human, very nuanced representation for women, but without pushing some bullshit feminist political agenda. We need more heroines like Senua. (Of course I can't speak to soon since it's not even out yet, so I hope I don't have to eat my words)

They primarily talk about industry specific things like the theory and execution of certain gaming concepts. They're basically like professors who assess a game's ability to put gaming-related concepts into an actual game and they give a grade based on how well it was executed. less of a "Is it fun" and more of a "how much of game design school course material made it in to the game, and we'll use that to try and tell people how good WE think it is. it doesn't factor in the simple fact that a game has to be played by a player for that specific player to form their own personal opinion about it. it also ignores the phenomenon of emergent gameplay that can completely contradict the critics' review. but thats what happened when you turn yourself into sheep and let people tell you how to live your life... even down to what games are "good so buy it" and which ones are "bad, so blast them on twitter" case in point: that one guy who gave a balanced review on LoZ:BotW and got zerg rushed for it. Obviously Critics' opinions don't determine the "goodness" of a game.
I am stoked for this game because finally there is a decent looking game about my ancestors. Senua is a member of the Pict tribe, one of the many Celtic tribes.. I hope they integrate as much about the cultures, religions, etc as possible!

True, but for me female protagonist is always better. Back then i mostly played japanese games and since some time, they started making male protagonists too much gay (FFXV is good example now). And there is no such thing with females obviously. Besides, i find it way cooler when a sexy female is also bad-ass than a male. Females are simply more interesting for me. Well, if they completely don't screw it up, that is. But it also depends how you look at it. Someone like to play male character because the player is male himself and opposite and then someone likes to play female character because the player is male, so it's more appealing to look at female ass than male. The first group of people are usually those who likes to play themselves in the game or in other words, they try to role play themselves (making the character look like them as much as possible for example, if there is character customization option) and the second group of people are those who simply like to watch good looking character without giving a damn about if the character look like themselves. I'm in the second group.

This game's atmosphere seems very impressive. Glad it's coming to pc too, bought Enslaved for a few bucks a month ago, and it was the best $5 I've ever spent in my entire life. If Hellblade can live up to that kind of quality, it's going to be a great game, can't wait.

I think it's because combat looks a little clunky and the game mechanics they talk about look like they could turn out to be more of a hustle, making you go around in circles for hours trying to listen for voices in the wind and the such, than anything else. first of all, the combat systems looks really good in terms of both use of slow-mo and how the strikes smoothly operates onto the enemy. Secondly, Dark Souls is shit. This or at least the COMBAT looks nothing like Dark Souls. You meant the world? In which case it's true Dark Souls has the dark theme. The only good things about that game /RANT is that the level of expertise it demands can be a good thing though it's not fun UNTIL you master it + it focuses on world look, not graphics (animation and choppy movement and ragdoll at least), gameplay or anything. They released several other videos throughout development. They are trying to make a AAA game on a smaller budget... I'm glad to see it coming together.

LuKazu Bioshock is a perfect example of story/gameplay done right. This game looks amazing, I personally love the concept and the ambientation (can't get enough of Viking themed games) but the game looked a little slow and dull. I have great expectation from this game but I have to weight in the fact that Ninja Theory betrayed my expectations a alot in the past. I absolutely fell in love with Heavenly Sword, heck, I even liked the ultra hard bashed DMC even if I hated their silly version of an emo Dante. But hey, this is, like, my opinion man, and I am sorry it upset you. Let's just hope they'll get things right.

I must admit, I wasn't thinking when I clicked on this video. I saw "Hellblade" and thought it was another video on Monster Hunter. Happy accidents and all that, I guess. I noticed my mistake but gave it a chance nonetheless. Needless to say, I'm impressed. Also, 4:42 HOLY SHIT... is that the same voice actor as Sir Vilhelm from Dark Souls 3?! Gameplay looks impressive. Like a gritty, high-octane mix of The Witcher and HZD, with a combat system like the new God of War. The game is also incredibly graphically pleasing, though I'm afraid it will only run well on PS4Pro and PC. I only hope it gives us lots of weapons and/or powers to play with! Having only one weapon gets old, if I've learned anything from Shadow of Mordor. I've never cared whether a protagonist was male or female, so long as they were well-written and/or their sex was plot-significant. Suffice to say, I would not appreciate her being the "woman protagonist" heroine simply for girl-power tokenism. Despite that, I'm not going to dwell on the issue, but instead approach it with cautious optimism when the game releases. Besides, I'll probably be focusing more on the game itself and its lore. Speaking of which, very little has been revealed about the plot, but I think it's already a game to get hyped for. Not to mention, I thoroughly enjoy the overtone of madness and desolation. Yes, I may be slightly biased as a huge Bloodborne fanboy, but come on! It's a great concept! 😅 The hopelessness of a Miyazaki game, with the bloodsoaked nightmarish nature of Silent Hill or Outlast. I love it! Hellblade looks like it has an incredible amount of potential, but I've gotten my heart broken before when it comes to games. I look forward to it, albeit tentatively.

If the game features battles with many enemies trying to flank the player or attack simultaneously like in here, then the gameplay is going to be great. We are gonna have a beautiful cinematic experience and dark themes as readers/viewers, while phases of intense close quarters combat interrupts them to remind us we now have to survive as gamers. Seems awesome to me.
2:30 in, and I was already sold on this game. Only thing I could hope for is that the combat has a lil depth and a difficulty can be chosen to make the enemies smarter, or you just can't get hit as much, or something. Either way, it looks like it'll still be fun. The movements during combat looked amazing and reallly cool.

at 10:12 graphics went scaled down and the face of the protagonist is now different and the voice is different (although im sure it's the same voice actress) and the facial expressions died down when she speaks, some will say her face has less expressions because of her on going experience but some can say "My face is tired" but none the less im looking forward to it!

Someone like to play male character because the player is male himself and opposite and then someone likes to play female character because the player is male, so it's more appealing to look at female ass than male. The first group of people are usually those who likes to play themselves in the game or in other words, they try to role play themselves (making the character look like them as much as possible for example, if there is character customization option) and the second group of people are those who simply like to watch good looking character without giving a damn about if the character look like themselves. I'm in the second group.

LuKazu Bioshock is a perfect example of story/gameplay done right. This game looks amazing, I personally love the concept and the ambientation (can't get enough of Viking themed games) but the game looked a little slow and dull. I have great expectation from this game but I have to weight in the fact that Ninja Theory betrayed my expectations a alot in the past. I absolutely fell in love with Heavenly Sword, heck, I even liked the ultra hard bashed DMC even if I hated their silly version of an emo Dante. But hey, this is, like, my opinion man, and I am sorry it upset you.

I must admit, I wasn't thinking when I clicked on this video. I saw "Hellblade" and thought it was another video on Monster Hunter. Happy accidents and all that, I guess. I noticed my mistake but gave it a chance nonetheless. Needless to say, I'm impressed.

Gameplay looks impressive. Like a gritty, high-octane mix of The Witcher and HZD, with a combat system like the new God of War. The game is also incredibly graphically pleasing, though I'm afraid it will only run well on PS4Pro and PC. I only hope it gives us lots of weapons and/or powers to play with! Having only one weapon gets old, if I've learned anything from Shadow of Mordor.
I've never cared whether a protagonist was male or female, so long as they were well-written and/or their sex was plot-significant. Suffice to say, I would not appreciate her being the "woman protagonist" heroine simply for girl-power tokenism. Despite that, I'm not going to dwell on the issue, but instead approach it with cautious optimism when the game releases. Besides, I'll probably be focusing more on the game itself and its lore.
Speaking of which, very little has been revealed about the plot, but I think it's already a game to get hyped for. Not to mention, I thoroughly enjoy the overtone of madness and desolation. Yes, I may be slightly biased as a huge Bloodborne fanboy, but come on! It's a great concept! 😅 The hopelessness of a Miyazaki game, with the bloodsoaked nightmarish nature of Silent Hill or Outlast. I love it!

If the game features battles with many enemies trying to flank the player or attack simultaneously like in here, then the gameplay is going to be great.
We are gonna have a beautiful cinematic experience and dark themes as readers/viewers, while phases of intense close quarters combat interrupts them to remind us we now have to survive as gamers.

2:30 in, and I was already sold on this game. Only thing I could hope for is that the combat has a lil depth and a difficulty can be chosen to make the enemies smarter, or you just can't get hit as much, or something. Either way, it looks like it'll still be fun. The movements during combat looked amazing and reallly cool.
