Following these guidelines is very effective. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with severe PMR. My rheumatologist give me a diet sheet that essentially gave the same advice as this video. But it emphasised fish for omega 3 and allowed olive and avocado oils. I've tried to follow it and 6 months later he says I've done very well. I believe the diet has helped enormously.
I switched to a plant based diet and I have no more arthritis at all!!!! I took 10-20 ibuprofen a week and I haven’t taken any since 2 days after being plant based!!!! I feel like I did when I was 20!!! PLANT BASED IS THE BEST FUEL FOR OUR BODIES!!! 🌱 ❤
Thanks again for all your help guys. Y’all actually got me through a total hip replacement surgery by watching your videos it came out good and I still enjoy watching y’all. 👍
thank god i see this im 27 and i suffer a lot about my health i want to live healthy but i dont know how to start or do it right . thanks to both of you love lots!❤
Great great ! Video. As a doc myself , I have recommended these same suggestions. I luckily got to live overseas as part of my childhood, in Europe and it is so easy to eat healthy. There are so many good things to eat. So many ways to prepare delicious vegetables and fruits with lean protein such as fish, chicken, turkey, and limited beef. It’s in the last 30-35 years that here in the USA, the large food industries have contaminated our ideas and force feed people. When I was in Jr high and HS, when we had a dance or other social activity , THERE WAS NO FOOD! It was great. We knew to eat before the activity and then go and enjoy the activity not go to eat. In the late 70s-80s , during the disco era in college, we would go dancing and not eat because we ate before going out. I feel food is the focus for all activities. Also, the style was to be thin , not huge.
The medical community really missed a great opportunity to talk about obesity when Covid showed up. The CDC & stats show it put morbidity at a higher risk. People's fear could've broken the PC ideas about fat shaming so we could again talk about the role of nutrition, weight control & health.
@@MonarchAZ The problem is how many doctors view obesity. One can be thicker than they used to be because of years of working out, running, rowing or dancing and the scale can be higher but they do not have much fat to their body. Another can be thin but flabby..and then others are clearly just obese. But many doctors only look at the scale. We need better education than what is currently on the internet.
Lol. Rocker chick..but pro dancer..i.e. not disco but rock dancing..dancing for us in 89-90s was done before..then for some ungodly reason, everyone wanted to go out to dinner after dancing or seeing a band or performing..(the performing thing I get..but after I do, I just want to go home..lol). I think your way made more sense as I'd slog along half asleep with the rest wishing everyone would go home and sleep as geez..it was 230 am! (The old joke from Tom Kiefer of Cinderella is the bassplayers and drummers go out and cause trouble, the guitarist mopes about how he sounded..and the vocalist everyone assumes is the wildest goes home to hope he or she sleeps because if he doesn't his voice will suffer). At least your way you got some zzzzzs!
Thank you for talking about food. Most physicians only care about medications.💗. As an extremely insulin resistant person, I pretty much live on green leafy veggies, a hand full of berries and 5 oz of home raised organic meat per meal. I only use avocado and olive oil when using oil. You do not need to be on a keto diet to be low carb.😀
I don't want to be sarcarstic but what should people eat. These guys have red flagged almost all of the staple foods which majority of people consume across the globe. As usual I like the content these docs release.
Seems like affordable real foods will keep us healthy! I think they did NOT suggest avoiding: veggies, fruit, chicken/fish, beans, nuts, or soy (tofu).
Belgian Waffles! These guy's kill me, figuratively speaking. In reality, they are extending and improving my life. I'm here for that and all of their videos.
Great topic for those of us who suffer from arthritis. I appreciate the time and effort you guys take to provide important information for us. Take care of yourself!
The foods we eat have both direct and indirect effects on our bodies. I have known about some of the inflammatory foods and stay clear of them. My body doesn’t like the way certain foods play havoc on my pain. I’m sure there’s more I can learn and put into practice. The one big food I eliminated completely was red meat. Love the topic and keep these videos coming .
Kudos! Eliminating red meat really helps the environment, since raising cows is worse for the environment than any other farm animal due to the methane and nitrous oxide they produce.
My brother did all the wrong things you mention. He suffered from gout in addition to other health issues. In 2004 he was prescribed Viox for his gout and died of a massive heart attack at age 48. This despite having no history of heart disease in our family. I'm almost 65 and I'm in good health. I practice moderation with the foods I eat and I actually drink a lot less since retirement usually 2 drinks per week.
@@MsPinkwolf Yes. Was prescribed this after having surgery to remove my gall bladder and ten days after couldn’t breathe for the pain in my chest and back. Was immediately taken off it. Also anything with codine gave me the same sensation. I always check for this when taking any medication.
So sorry for your loss😢 I believe Viox was taken off the market because of it’s dangerous side effects ie heart etc. Be very careful about taking new to the market medications
The nightshades and beef are killers for me. I am just going to have to live with some inflammation. The video's message was a lot easier to take coming from you two. Thanks.
Beef is the only protein I can eat. I will easily give it up but because I have to low carb because of my Lyme, this makes my diet difficult. The rest of this is no problem.
People with a genetic variant of MTHFR are more sensitive to inflammation from nightshades due to the alkaloid solanine, which is the inflammatory chemical in nightshade vegetables . This can be tested in a simple blood test by Labcorp. Blueberries also have solanine, the inflammatory chemical in the nightshade family. Eating blueberries every morning led to finger stiffness for me, which went away when I stopped eating blueberries every morning.
Hello to my two favorite TH-cam docs y’all always rock. The largest food group that’s bad for you that taste so good southern cooking. Even the vegetables have all the bad additives in them . So moderation is the key to all food & drinks. It’s very hard not to over indulge even when we know it. Thank you docs for opening or eyes even wider
Well guys., although I agree with you, as a senior [82] widow there’s not a lot left that brings joy into my life, so my wine has to stay! Enjoy your videos! Thanks 🇨🇦🇨🇦🍷🤔👏🥂🇨🇦
Thank you so much for the great advice, I am an RGN and give the same advice to my patients, but they look at me, like I have gone mad. Love and light, from UK 🇬🇧. Darcy ❤
Anyone who suffers from any form of arthritis should follow the suggestions given in this video. Never before have we had so much information regarding the type of food consumed and its relation to disease than we do today. To have a healthier life everyone should seriously consider what they eat. A brilliant video docs. Many thanks
I have inflammation issues and when I first learned about inflammation foods and thought there is nothing to eat anymore. But honestly there is so much out there that is still delicious and a large variety. I followed some what of the Wahls diet. She helped out a ton. Goodluck! It is possible and makes a huge difference
Well.....now I have to change my whole garden plan next year! Luckily the fall garden is loaded with greens and brassicas to make one feel fabulous. Thanks Doctors. Truth through fire!
Thanks for this. The key is to concentrate on what you CAN eat: legumes, most vegetables, whole cereals, all of these in generous quantities, and sensible quantities of fruits, while keeping these “baddies” to a minimum, if not outright banning them. Am I right?
Sensible quantities of fruit? Eat as much fruit as you want. It’s packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, and contains fiber, which greatly reduces the absorption of naturally occurring sugar. People think you should limit fruit because of sugar, but that’s not true because it’s a different process than eating added sugar in a processed food item like candy or crackers.
Glad you mentioned the nightshade veggies. My chiropractor seems to think they are a no-no. Docs, you are great. thanks for keeping us educated. Lots of mis-information out there. Even from well intentioned people.
NOTE It is so refreshing seeing a video with Real Medical Doctors talking about this. But also I noticed that they are from Canada. Because In the U.S. all the real Medical Doctors do is prescribe Pharmaceutical Drugs
This is a great list. However, we are all unique. I recently found that dairy was causing inflammation for me. It really helps to have a simple diet - makes it easier to identify what food is causing a reaction.
I have included this video in my Healthy Lifestyle Choices- free content mobile app and have promoted this video to over 40 LinkedIn and Facebook groups so far in over 2 days, with many more to come once approved. Thanks you so much for the insightful content and here's hoping we can get the message out to as many struggling with chronic pain and inflammation in their personal diets as possible, which is what I am passionate about.
Thanks Damien. We feel strongly about informing people and helping them get past all the promotion of unhealthy foods by industry. Thank you so much for including us!
Thanks for this one. Hard hearing that what a lot of us enjoy is bad for us....hopefully a once in a while kind of enjoyment can be a fair compromise. I do realize there are some conditions (such as gout) where you should just leave things out completely for a while.
Thank you for the info. I will not give up beef, I feel energized after consuming beef; but like anything else, it’s consumed in moderation. Thanks again.❤️
Starting small is still better than not starting at all. I was eating a LOT of red meat, fried/baked potatoes, and white corn. Now I eat more salmon, shrimp, chicken, pork and lamb instead. I still can't resist a deal on tri-tip or ribeye steaks so I generally share those meals with my son and my dog who craves red meat protein-so I'm not stuck eating the whole thing by myself. Pasta is probably the hardest thing to cut out of my diet so I've been trying to rotate in cabbage and onions sautéd in avocado oil, oven baked sweet potato and yam fries lightly coated with avocado oil garlic and pepper. Lots of sautéd squash. I also found that whole grain brown rice isn't so bad. I'm also a big mac and cheese fan. Does anyone know if the whole grain wheat pastas are worth the substitution or are they almost as bad for inflammation as the regular pasta? Baked potatoes are maybe once a week instead of 3 times a week. Red meat once or twice a week instead of 4-5 times a week. Trying to reduce down to once or twice a month. When my son is staying with his mom, I live on salads though I know dressings are high in dairy fats and/or sugar so I try to go light...like I'm dressing the salad in underwear instead of an entire outfit.
Thank you so much for these vids. You gentlemen got it nailed on the level of making educational-informative vids highly entertaining. Congratulations on the French Fries fun fact thing, this shows how intelligent you are 😉😀greetings from Belgium
I love the humor which is very important when discussing health issues. You both do wonderful informative videos. I love watching you both. I have OA in my knee. How successful is surgery i have heard people end up worse? or longer time pain just keep the videos coming they are so refreshing to watch so many many thanks to you both
Hi Geoff. Knee replacement is a good operation for those that wait long enough and are in severe pain. We would both say we have zero patients who are worse. But some people are not totally satisfied as their expectations are not met sometimes. Thanks for the positive feedback. Thanks for watching and subscribing
I was sent to a nutritionist for an anti-inflammatory diet and got a LOT more foods on the prohibited list which stressed me out very much and stress also causes inflammation, so it's a catch-22.
My inflammation was caused by my elbow, yes my elbow. I discovered that every time my elbow bent my mouth opened and that, that in turn inflamed my waistline. Also a lack of exercise was a minor factor also. I, personally, would rather die years early and enjoy steak, than eat grass and not enjoy life.
Meat and low carb(low vegetable) helps keep you from getting heart attacks. Keeps your brain healthy. Mostly meat, some fruits and even less vegetables. Whole animal based eating is what the pharmaceuticals don’t want you to eat why don’t they want you to eat it🤑
How about oxalates? I just learned after 50+ years this was a thing. Shocking the healthy foods on the long list. Love to hear your knowledge on medical issues and oxalates. I'd love more info from your expertise.
Thank you Mr.Laurel and Mr. Hardy …. I think I am slowly losing the will to live. Your videos are great! I look forward to seeing your next one …. If I haven’t already given up the ghost by then! Love ya…. Kathleen
Love listening to you two Docs and the rapport that you have with both each another and your audience. You're never judgemental, only helpful. Must say that everything you said in this video, I can prove correct. I was a 35 year vegetarian and thought I was healthy. It wasn't until three years ago when I went vegan that my arthritis cleared up completely, my blood pressure dropped to 80/50 and my quality of life went through the roof. At 69, I'm now running at least a mile a day, climbing ladders like a 25 year old and dropped from 140 pounds down to 100 pounds (I'm 5'1"). Best thing I ever did for my body and psyche. Wish I had gone vegan 38 years ago and skipped the vegetarian thing. Too much fat, trans fat and processed food was killing me. Yogurt and cottage cheese are not health foods! Thanks for all your good advice!
What are the things you stopped eating when you switched to being Vegan? Dairy, eggs, and ? I can see where stopping all dairy would be a huge improvement for you. I stopped it in 2012, and was amazed at the improvements I saw/felt. Good for you!!!
@@Redcouriercat PROCESSED carbs. Whole foods carbs are the foundation of energy, problem is no one knows what those are, everything is so over processed. Whole oat groats, whole spelt berries, millet, whole kasha, quinoa (which I think is a seed actually), beans have carbs but the fiber slows down the insulin reaction. Just like fat, some are awful and some are not bad, the fat in salmon for example, omega 3's, and in flaxseed. and use veg oils to a minimum.
@@lesliecurran1704That would be true for a person with no underlying issues, but for someone with metabolic syndrome or diabetes those foods would be best avoided.
Thanks for the information. I do know this list, and as I get closer to being 75 years old, I keep trying more and more to exclude everything on this list. My problem is sugar which I have been dealing with for almost my entire life, so I am trying to eat less and less of it, but it doesn't help much when sugar is in practically everything!! I will just keep working at it.
There’s a lot of nitrates in vegetables too, but nobody seems to think it’s a problem. As far as red meat goes, we’ve cut our consumption in half over the past few decades and there’s been a proliferation of chronic diseases.
Hi Bryan. Natural nitrates are safe and are found in vegetables and red meat. The nitrates added to processed meat is the problem. And less meat consumption is obviously not the cause of chronic disease. If you look at the areas of the world where people live the longest - blue zones - they eat very little meat. But it is still always your choice to eat whatever you want. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Nightshades are so high in antioxidants!!! But I understand there’s no one size fits all for everyone. Also, don’t forget processed corn products and soy products.
You guys are so cute. I often recommend your videos to my friends and I tell them that you deliver the facts with a bit of humor, which helps to accept what I don’t want to hear, with knowing you are right!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks you two! Once again straight forward advice presented in such a down to earth manner. You made me laugh at least half a dozen times. Love it that you don’t take yourselves too seriously.
Hi Shawn. There are lots of studies on grass fed beef. It doesn’t make as much difference as everyone would hope. Red meat just isn’t good for you. Thanks for watching and subscribing
VERY INTERESTING AND HELPFUL!! I wish my rheumatologist would have told me this YEARS AGO! After years of suffering, I decided on my own to shed pounds in hopes to become more active, which will help my Sjogren's and INFLAMMATION. Instead of Sugar, or reducing the amount of Sugar, I use HONEY OR MONK FRUIT to see IF I can feel better and LOSE WEIGHT. THANK YOU!!!
My doctor prescribed something for gout. The pharmacist told me the pills reduce inflammation. So now I take them to reduce my inflammation for osteoarthritis. They really work well.
Great video. My daughter just gifted us a ninja 2 zone air fryer. It air fries veggies wonderfully. I also add ground tumeric and ginger to help with inflammation. Maybe you could do an episode on healthy spices for inflammation.
@@TalkingWithDocs Suggest you consider Curcumin as an anti inflammatory, I use it as a treatment for ulcerative Colitus, to great effect, as I didn't respond well to the drug alternatives.
One of the things I keep hearing about is tomatoes. They're very bad for arthritis along with all the fun things you just mentioned. You guys were surely the barer of bad news today. 😣 While I try to avoid these things you mentioned, I have to have a good ol' hamburger occasionally. 🍔 Thanks for sharing this great information that no one wants to hear! 😉
Very welcome Vickie. Should have watched to the end though we talk about night shades like tomatoes and the evidence is weak. Thanks for watching and subscribing
@@TalkingWithDocs I did watch to the end but I was referring more to other alerts from other sources. We're told all our lives to eat certain things then are suddenly told those things are bad for us in other ways. A lot of people try to eat things in moderation but sometimes that's even too much. Of course foods will affect our bodies but there are no warning labels on them and a lot of people are oblivious to what can harm them. But information like this is very helpful and because of doctors like you, more people can be more informed. And not all doctors are this forthcoming with their patients. In fact, this is the most information I've received on the subject. Tomatoes have been the most mentioned food from other sources. 😉 I didn't know there was going to be a test. 😋 But I do watch your videos all the way through. And I truly appreciate them!
So fun to watch and listen to you guys at the end of my night. Your medical advice is Golden and it is Supported and corroborated by hundreds of other scientific and medical studies. Humor and levity sells the hard compromises and aligns with everything my GP yells at me about. Thank you Doctors, press on and keep the truth on the light side.
After doing Keto for two and a half years and not feeling better I went to carnivore and ended up with Rheumatoid Arthritis so you both are right about that!
I went Keto and lost 80 pounds and put diabetes into remission. All my blood work is now perfect and has been for 2 years. All I eat are Beef, pork, bacon, eggs, salads, avocados, some chicken, broccoli, almond milk and butter. Never felt better. The red meat myth is outdated and some Doctors need to update themselves on it.
I used the keto diet to help ease me off of ant seizure meds and it was good for that. And then my cholesterol and inflammation was off the charts. Back at a Mediterranean diet and feel loads better.
Hey Doc's, I love you guys. You helped me through my knee and hip replacements. My question for you is: What is your take on Fibromyalgia. Hard to get a diagnosis. Not a fan of taking drugs but I am struggling with even getting out of bed. It comes and goes. The flare-ups are rough. What is Fibromyalgia all about?
Hi Diane. It is a little tricky. We can add it to the future video list. But it’s about painful trigger points. Treatment is medication and physio. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Hello Diane, I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It's taken some time to figure out, but I have found certain foods make me feel awful, and increase my pain. Perhaps try to see how you feel when you eat certain things. A few of my triggers are milk (I can eat yogurt, though), wheat, and sugar. Best of luck to you!
My daughter has fibromyalgia. She was only 20 and her doctor wanted to put her on medication. She did not want that. She changed her diet to very similar to what the docs are saying, but also started going to a medically licensed acupuncturist. This changed her life. After a few years, she no longer needed the acupuncture. She continues a good diet and 20 years later only has flare-ups when she eats junk food. Hope this helps.
You guys are just too much! Thanks, loved it! So, I am trying to understand long-term healing and the inflammatory process. I have had 2 knee replacement surgeries, each a year apart, the last one being Dec 2020 and I am still in pain. Sometimes still swollen! Will this ever go away?? I am thin, in pretty good shape, work out (as best I can, certainly more limited now) and thought I was eating pretty healthy UNTIL I just recently read Eat to Live and have changed the way I think about food, nutrition and my health. (I don't think I ever thought about it before, I only watched calories to stay thin, probably suffered from malnutrition, lol!!). Do you think my pain and stiffness is still just part of the healing process and may never go away or can this possibly be chronic inflammation? Thanks for any advice!
Hi Jeanne. It can still improve but some knee patients have persistent pain despite a good functioning knee. Lots of ice and exercise. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Same here Jeanne,....best to eat foods High in Potassium and Magnesium. Also a good $ Probiotic with food (AM ) at least 3x per week. If you have low blood pressure, pre -cook and freeze a pound of calf's LIVER to be eaten 3x times a week. Its the best meat on the planet, and the cheapest.
It took me years to figure out my inflammation, joint pain, and erythema nodosum was caused by my omega 3 and omega 6 ratio being out of whack. I figured this out with elimination diets. I have since increased my omega 3 index and get it tested regularly to keep the inflammation down and my omega index correct.
Great Canadian docs and excellent topics. Time to bring on Dr. Robert Lustig (not Canadian but should be an honorary Canadian) and Dr. Jason Fung. Food is medicine. It always was, and only now are we fully appreciating how much we got wrong and how much we can do to improve our health.

thank god i see this im 27 and i suffer a lot about my health i want to live healthy but i dont know how to start or do it right .
thanks to both of you love lots!❤
Hi Elizabeth thanks so much for sharing. Thanks for watching and subscribing
We totally agree Vicky. The keto people are zealots. Thanks for watching and subscribing
That's really great information. I've always said after eating white pasta I didn't feel that good and no one believed me. Thank you Doc's !!
Exactly George. Thanks for watching and subscribing
I don't want to be sarcarstic but what should people eat. These guys have red flagged almost all of the staple foods which majority of people consume across the globe.
As usual I like the content these docs release.
It's tricky. Best advice would be to avoid sugar, refined grains and processed foods. That's a good start for most people. Then try to eat more plants
Very welcome Carl. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Same. I have RA and not in remission. I love these guys.
Turmeric is good for arthritis add it to what ever you cook.
Thanks so much DogsRGod. Good for you. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Sorry about your brother George. All the best. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Do you think the medication hastened his death?
@@bedwarsgb4523 it was recalled in 2004 after about a 3rd of people who took it died.
@@MsPinkwolf Yes. Was prescribed this after having surgery to remove my gall bladder and ten days after couldn’t breathe for the pain in my chest and back. Was immediately taken off it. Also anything with codine gave me the same sensation. I always check for this when taking any medication.

The nightshades and beef are killers for me. I am just going to have to live with some inflammation. The video's message was a lot easier to take coming from you two. Thanks.
We do our best John. Nightshades are probably ok. Beef …well …. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Beef is the only protein I can eat. I will easily give it up but because I have to low carb because of my Lyme, this makes my diet difficult. The rest of this is no problem.
I love pork ribs, pork butt. Are these also an issue? I’m not a fan of chicken and beef is no loss.
@@staycurious3954 I don't think pork is as bad but am not positive.
Thanks for this. The key is to concentrate on what you CAN eat: legumes, most vegetables, whole cereals, all of these in generous quantities, and sensible quantities of fruits, while keeping these “baddies” to a minimum, if not outright banning them. Am I right?
You are right! Thanks for watching and subscribing

Slow and steady wins the race.

I, personally, would rather die years early and enjoy steak, than eat grass and not enjoy life.

when you are 67 you may regret your decision. I don't think red meat is a huge problem.
But the thing is you might not die sooner - you'll might just spend those last years being sick. Retirement years.

Meat and low carb(low vegetable) helps keep you from getting heart attacks. Keeps your brain healthy. Mostly meat, some fruits and even less vegetables. Whole animal based eating is what the pharmaceuticals don’t want you to eat why don’t they want you to eat it🤑

Thank you so much Florence. Congrats on all of your success. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Fats are not bad for you, trans fats and carbs are.

It sure is. And that is very intentional. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
