Ghana debates harsh new anti-LGBTQ bill | DW News

- Members of the LGBTQ community in Ghana say their lives will become a nightmare if a new bill is passed into law. Same- sex relations are already criminalized in Ghana but some lawmakers are pushing for more restrictions. They now want anyone actively supporting LGBTQ community to be imprisoned for up to 10 years. They also want people to be punished for 'saying' they are gay, lesbian or transgender. The bill has massive support in parliament and across society. But as we report, many in the LGBTQ community are now living in fear.

Why is the media not lighting the fact that there is a law in the proposed bill that protect the gays against being harm.
The thing is, why people attack them as well, how will they go to the police that they were beaten because they were gay? The law claims that they can go to prison by just saying that they are gay.
@@Debertan1998 but they can still go to the police and report the one who abused them, and that person will also be arrested

@stephen awuah if a thief is lynched for stealing, he can hardly report it to the police cos he'll be dead lol
@stephen awuah I didn't say anything about the gay law. I restricted my comment to your assertion that and I quote "thieves can report if they are lynched for such an act". The fact is that if a person is dead, he/she cannot report a crime committed against their person as you inferred before. You have now corrected yourself to say that someone else would have to report the crime which is true. Someone else would have to report but there's no guarantee that someone else would report after the fact and either way, the thief would not get justice in his/her lifetime because he/she would already be dead lol
Currently in Hungary, a new law is being prepared to prevent you from talking a kid about these Acts until they're 18.
So the kids get to 18 and are bombarded with the responsibility of being an adult without understanding what being an adult might entail?
@@lvseka people can by themselves figure out their own sexuality when they are 18 without all this gay and lesbian talks . you say some people are born gay right ? lets see how many people will come out as gay when they are 18 if they are not bombarded with gay talks by the media .
@@perfectwoman266 Wow. Read my text. Bombarded with responsibility. I don't care if people figure out if they are gay or not, but even children need to understand debates at an early age. You need to raise critical thinkers from an early age. You shouldn't raise children, raise adults. Blocking such things from children is just adults trying to control what sort of society they live in based on ideology and not logics.
Secondly, I haven't said people are born gay or not. That's almost irrelevant to anything. I think it's always a combination of both and regardless of weather it's a nature or nature, it shouldn't matter what the law says. Actually in the situation that children are barred from discussing any LGBTQ things, then they are being natured away from such and thus by the time they get to 18, most of them would surely chose to be straight since those are the only examples they see in society and I'm sure nobody will frown upon that. The issue arises in the few that will be brave enough to still chose their preference, because you can't really control everyone as much as you'd like to. They would end up living in a society that's against them by design.
Beutefull
@@lvseka are you saying that there’s no set standard for an adult to grow into. Are you saying parents can’t train up a child the way they intend them to but to allow negative media influence to confuse their little minds. Who is responsible for the child’s upbringing, the parent or the government? To everyone and their own. Lester teach your children about options of sexual orientation and perversion and leave others alone. If you want all your sons to suffer from rectal prolapse and HIV and your daughters to suffer depression it’s unto you. At the end we shall all answer for our results.
They should rather highlight the side effects of LGBT on people who practice it.
Why do the Western world cotinue to push for Ghana to accept that LGBT ? Why aren't they imposing it on Arab countries.
Its mainly because Ghana is popular for foreigners and is usually the African country foreigners come to. African Americans are even moving here. So this bill will ruin Ghana's reputation internationally. It views ghanaians as homophobes. This thing is not even harming anyone and is the least thing Ghana should worry about. Furthering it is going to ruin Ghana's reputation internationally because Ghana has already been an attraction to tourists and this bill will view Ghanaians as homophobes which is bad. I understand that we have our culture but unfortunately, that's how the world is. LGBTQ+ has existed in the beginning, will continue to exist now and will exist for the rest of our lives and the fact that Ghana is a religious country and they still exist here tells us it can exist anywhere. I'm even wondering since when does the government care about what the citizens think? An issue that doesn't affect our development? We have unemployment and that's one of Ghana's biggest issues. I will say reproduction is not romantic love and you can still reproduce without the will to like that someone yes adam and eve did love each other she was basically in his image with god's help.
Because of how the bible never specified romantic love (if you do know the issue of it of any specified romantic love description from the bible tell me) it is lead to us to think what is romantic love.
For me and this is my opinion love is not biological it is not an reproduction fact it is the will and relationship of two others that are connected by interest no physical appearance can stop that connection that it is by moral value.
My argument for it is this:you don't want to just marry someone you have no interest with? You don't want to marry someone instead if the person you want to marry right? Obviously no if you were just be with some random girl you just know it will be horrible especially when you have an connection with someone.
Sex and marriage are just the next step in a relationship. That's my opinion and my argument also view in romantic love

As a Ghanaian, I’m disgusted by the influence of American and European to change the values and culture of Ghana. Let Ghana and Ghanaians resolve their own issues.
They’ve always been saved. How safe are polygamists in Germany?
i am really hoping this interview was with Sam George instead...
Every country is just protecting their society from external influence, Ghana is just doing the same for their nation
But looking at every foreign suggestion or criticism as imperial influence is pretty retarded. If somebody calls you out for doing something not okay like stealing someone elses money or beating someone for a fetish, he has good reasons for doing so. Not only does someone else has to suffer unnecessarly but you also break your own agenda of not wanting to get harmed. Something that can generally only happene if you do the same to others. If someone calls you out for bad deeds, he does so not for playing the nerd in front of you, but to make everyone's life better.
I was just 6 years old when I came to realize I had a crush on a girl.

Its not a mistake that they say 10 years, it is part of their plan to cause Ghana some form of international harm. This same 10 years was used when CNN interviewed Sam George.

Concerning that of the lgbtq+ community, no one is attacking them. We just aren't in favour of their choice of preference. They should stop forcing the preference down our throats. We are not interested in knowing who they have intimacy with.
Lgbtq+ goes beyond sexual preference. There's the gender identity nonsense. And we aren't interested in this whole information overload.
