Ghana debates harsh new anti-LGBTQ bill | DW News

  • Members of the LGBTQ community in Ghana say their lives will become a nightmare if a new bill is passed into law. Same- sex relations are already criminalized in Ghana but some lawmakers are pushing for more restrictions. They now want anyone actively supporting LGBTQ community to be imprisoned for up to 10 years. They also want people to be punished for 'saying' they are gay, lesbian or transgender. The bill has massive support in parliament and across society. But as we report, many in the LGBTQ community are now living in fear.

      @stephen awuah I didn't say anything about the gay law. I restricted my comment to your assertion that and I quote "thieves can report if they are lynched for such an act". The fact is that if a person is dead, he/she cannot report a crime committed against their person as you inferred before. You have now corrected yourself to say that someone else would have to report the crime which is true. Someone else would have to report but there's no guarantee that someone else would report after the fact and either way, the thief would not get justice in his/her lifetime because he/she would already be dead lol

    • @lvseka
      @lvseka 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@perfectwoman266 Wow. Read my text. Bombarded with responsibility. I don't care if people figure out if they are gay or not, but even children need to understand debates at an early age. You need to raise critical thinkers from an early age. You shouldn't raise children, raise adults. Blocking such things from children is just adults trying to control what sort of society they live in based on ideology and not logics.
      Secondly, I haven't said people are born gay or not. That's almost irrelevant to anything. I think it's always a combination of both and regardless of weather it's a nature or nature, it shouldn't matter what the law says. Actually in the situation that children are barred from discussing any LGBTQ things, then they are being natured away from such and thus by the time they get to 18, most of them would surely chose to be straight since those are the only examples they see in society and I'm sure nobody will frown upon that. The issue arises in the few that will be brave enough to still chose their preference, because you can't really control everyone as much as you'd like to. They would end up living in a society that's against them by design.

Furthering it is going to ruin Ghana's reputation internationally because Ghana has already been an attraction to tourists and this bill will view Ghanaians as homophobes which is bad. I understand that we have our culture but unfortunately, that's how the world is. LGBTQ+ has existed in the beginning, will continue to exist now and will exist for the rest of our lives and the fact that Ghana is a religious country and they still exist here tells us it can exist anywhere. We ha the right to freedom of speech which means I can say what I like but if you say you want to murder the president you would be arrested... We have right to religion but if I set up a religious body which extorts and demand blood I would be arrested.. So in the same way we have human rights but those rights are limited to what you can do.. Each country determines how far those rights can go... The are just making noise with the rights thing... I will say I'm not the best at religion I'm only remembering the bible poetic words. (I will say the bible words in my understanding of the words)
      God did create adam and through adam loneliness god would help have a partner though the sacrifice of one of adam's ribs they created eve.
      Yes he created adam and apart of eve (I geuss?) that led to ability to reproduce more humans but is this the definition of love specifically romantic love? The bible doesn't have many descriptive parts in romantic love specifically from my knowledge at least. Adam and eve are two individuals of the many individuals right now and love is different for all.
      I will say reproduction is not romantic love and you can still reproduce without the will to like that someone yes adam and eve did love each other she was basically in his image with god's help.
      Because of how the bible never specified romantic love (if you do know the issue of it of any specified romantic love description from the bible tell me) it is lead to us to think what is romantic love.
      For me and this is my opinion love is not biological it is not an reproduction fact it is the will and relationship of two others that are connected by interest no physical appearance can stop that connection that it is by moral value.
      My argument for it is this:you don't want to just marry someone you have no interest with? You don't want to marry someone instead if the person you want to marry right? Obviously no if you were just be with some random girl you just know it will be horrible especially when you have an connection with someone.
