    Hi hopefully you can answer this to help me out. I overclocked my 5800x using pbo and co. And my ram from 3600 to 3800. Its all stable for days now and 10% performance gain. Only issue I experience after the overclock is that during a game sometimes it stutters. And when multitasking while minimalizing a game its becomes slow and laggy. What can this be? Too low undervolt in CO?

    • @SkatterBencher
      @SkatterBencher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hard to diagnose from a distance, but Curve Optimizer is definitely on the table as possible root cause.
      Instability caused by too low voltage generally doesn't result in a system crash on AMD Ryzen CPUs. Instead, clock stretching takes place. In short: the CPU will suspend its activities until the voltage has recovered to the level necessary to run the target frequency. Suspending activity means that while the clock frequency reported is still high, the effective clock cycles are much lower.
      Curve Optimizer specifically undervolts the CPU, so you can have edge cases where the undervolt is too much and results in clock stretching.
      You can check whether clock stretching is happening using HWiNFO.

    • @SkatterBencher
      @SkatterBencher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to diagnose remotely without access to the system, but a common issue with PBO2 Curve Optimizer is clock stretching.
      Clock stretching is a safety feature that prevents the CPU from crashing when it's unstable due to too low voltage. Rather than shutting down the system, the CPU will stretch the clock cycle until the required voltage level has been restored. The effect of clock stretching is that the "effective clock", meaning the actual amount of clock cycles between two moments, is lower than before. I explain a bit about clock stretching in these two videos: th-cam.com/video/1wcU8PrdGLE/w-d-xo.html & th-cam.com/video/jTkDqARDkGg/w-d-xo.html.
      There are two main ways to detect clock stretching. First, you will notice that the system performance will decrease. Second, you can check in HWinfo the average effective clock during the benchmark and see if it is much lower than the set clock frequency.

      yep, you will have to clear cmos ... what he is doing here is way beyond a normal oc. he is also using some specific stuff like dynamic oc switcher wich is just possible to have on one specific overpriced board.
      what probably happend is that you used his memorytimings . his timings are quite good and 3600mhz C16 normally needs Samsung B-die ram or a realy good bin form another manufacure ( im not talking about the company who put the heatsink on here , rather the company producing the ramchips. these are normally samsung , Hynix and micron)
      so if you do not have realy expensive ram these timings wont work and with messed up ramtimings your system won't boot .
      unless you perform a Clear Cmos , wich resets the bios to its defaults.

      @@777dtl6 no that would not cause such thing . even if you bought a 3200mhz cl14 kit and someone may be able to overclock that thing for example to 3800mhz cl14 and you copy those settings and have the exact same product ( cpu , mb ,ram , etc ) , that will not mean that it will run. because of sillicon lottery , you have that with any microchip. even ram . thats why there so many different ram products on the market. they get binned and sold depending on thier quality , but there can be still massive headroom in them .... or if you have bad luck none.
      Also having a different mb , wich could have worse quality ( layers , ram layout etc. ) will result in lower maximum ram clockspeed or that you will have to run loose timings compared to a high end board.
      one question, what ram kit is he running? i might have missed that in the video

    hi guys, i have the same RAM modules (G.skill DDR4-3200 CL14 Samsung B-die), but why is it better to run at 3600C16? 3600C16 is a bit slover than 3200C14. the real latency for 3600C16 is 8.89, but for 3200C14 the real latency is just 8.75 - i thought that smaller number is better amongst the latencies (OR i misunderstood something in the video) thanks anybody for the help

      I have the same modules. You can also run it at 3600MHz CL14. Then you have the best of both worlds. Raise the voltage a bit and you'll be fine. Test 1,425V oder 1,45V

      You can CMOS clear and try again without setting the memory timings, frequency, and voltage. That's usually the issue when people copy the settings.

    Did the settings, now my PC won't boot, won't even make it to the bios.

      Clear CMOS via button or pins, then you can start from scratch again. My suggestion would be to skip the memory timing configuration

      Do a clear CMOS and try again. It's likely the memory isn't compatible with my frequency, timings and voltage. So try without setting the memory configuration
