I always get a kick out of your enthusiasm. You've been doing small engine repair for years yet you still get a thrill when the engine starts; don't ever lose that.👍
Once upon a time I did all that stuff you just did because my mower would only run 2 3 seconds. Finally I looked at the gas cap. Yes, I poked out the hole on the gas cap and my mower ran like a banshee. ALWAYS check for a clogged vent on your gas cap. Love your videos❤❤
Same here..mine quit running while cutting and I thought the fuel pump or something went bad.. I took off the gas cap to look in tank to see if there was some problem in there and just happened to try and start it with cap off and started right up ..cleaned vent in gas cap and done deal!!!!
Had this happen too. It would run rough like it was out of gas off and on. I happen to notice one time the tank was sucked in a bit and found out if I loosened the cap when it was acting up, it would clear up. I then proceeded to poke out and blow through the vent. Ran good since.
I'll be honest. Im mechanically inclined and feel confident with fixing just about anything else, but have never learned how cabs work and would always junk a product if i hear the carb is the problem. I was about to give up at the 4 minute mark, UNTIL I heard you say "If I can do it, you can do it". For some reason that was all the reassurance I needed and to my surprise, I followed your instructions and my riding lawnmower works! You are awesome. Thanks for keeping it simple and providing inspiration. That little comment changed the entire trajectory.
@@Chickanic can you help me I have a Murray riding lawn mower it's a 12 horsepower 40 inch cut.model number 40620C Date of man 2950. This info is all I can find.i tried ordering and they sent me the wrong parts.i need the front wheel bushings for murray riding mower.can you give me possible correct part number.
I love that you actually fix parts that are failing (like the stuck fuel shut-off solenoid in this video) instead of just replacing them with new parts like most shops do. Saving $$$ for customers...
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I just completed an engine swap on a craftsman Z6000. It had a blown engine from the previous owner. It had a 20hp B&S, found a JD L130 rider with a 23hp Kohler. Not too difficult of a job and I now have a nice repowered zero turn to mow with. 🙂
Chickanic....love your channel and your husband and I pray you both are born again. May you both be be born again and live with the LORD forever. God loves you and so do I.
Just wanted to thank you for your video. 1 I love fix-it videos, 2 I save a lot of money because of you. 3 you showed me how to fix my riding lawnmower and taught me to always check my gas first. My mower ran out of gas and I filled it up with new gas from my gas can. Then it would not start. I drain the gas line and the carburetor and I realized how gas in a can can create water in your gas and the gas today only last about 60 days. You’re doing a great job.
I just had a JD X320 come through with a Kawasaki that ran, but all it did was spit and sputter, even worse when the PTO is engaged. I put a new fuel filter on. I changed the fuel hoses from filter to fuel pump, and fuel pump to carb ( they were old and soft). I cleaned the carb and made sure the fuel solenoid was working. It still spit and sputtered like it wasn't getting fuel! On a whim, I cut the plunger off of the fuel solenoid... runs like a champ. I ordered a new fuel solenoid.
I got a 26 year old Kohler 12 horsepower that has been super reliable !!! Oil changes ,air filters and spark plugs are the only things I have had to do with this engine.
From my experience with those solenoid issues, you are able to hear if it's operating when you turn the key on and off. It's a simple start to the no fuel diagnosis. Great content as well, I never knew you could fiddle with it like that and rejuvenate one! Thank you!
Great tip on using the drill mounted wire brush to clean the interior of the fuel bowl. Sure beats hand held scratch brushes and paper towels for removing the gunk.
I didn't even know fuel shutoff solenoids were a thing. Kinda feels like something we might not need? But after watching your video I think this might be my problem. Gonna give it a look tonight! This video was very well done. Thank you.
All my years working on carbs I have never removed the bowl screws that easily or had the bowl just fall right off without a single tap with the old screwdriver handle. Great video. Seems all the carb videos are the same now days. BTW I have used aftermarket carbs and not one comeback yet, knock on wood.
One of your videos suggested putting on a shut-off to the gas. I did that and the last 5 mowings, I start the JD rider up and mow about 15 feet and it dies. After a forehead slap, I reach down and turn on the gas ! I fiqure if I slap my head harder each time it will stick to open it first. 🤪
Like your videos give out information is not what most people would do but when customers have a problem they will remember your business more so than not
My best feeling is hitting the key and it fires up. Just got done with an engine swap on an Exmark Lazer Z HP. I converted it from a 23 hp Kohler Command to a Briggs and Stratton 27 hp CXI engine. Rewiring it was a challenge, but after I got it all done I turned the key and it fired up. I’ve been mowing with it and so far so good !!!
Advice from a 25 year Master Technician, wear Nitrile or Latex 100% of the time. Your hands will absorb every chemical you touch. Your children will thank you. Great video as always Chickie. Big fan here. My wife and I hope you have a great summer!
Thanks Bre! I was having such a hard time getting my D110 to start, and sure enough, the fuel shut off solenoid was stuck. You definitely saved me time, money and frustration. YOU ROCK!
Never worked on a small engine before, bit I'm trying to get an old craftsman dyt 4000 running. electronics are good, filters are clean, fuel line seems fine, fixed the throttle cable, and I'm pretty sure the problem is with the fuel solenoid or carburetor, but that dang machine is just built to make it as difficult as possible to access. Hopefully a miracle will happen and I can pull it off
pulled the mower out yesterday, turned on the fuel valve, added a couple gallons of gas, put the new blades on, and it started on the third pull. blades without the corners worn off, cut so much better.
I don't know if you will see this. I'm sad you're not making videos anymore. This appears to be my problem, and it was on my feed when I opened up YT again. I'm glad! Can't wait to test this out! Thank you, Chickanic!!
Good one. Thank You. I have found that the 8-10 wire connector near the Ignition switch on JD's is often faulty and does not operate the solenoid. If you cannot hear/feel it click when turning the ignition to ON, Disconnect and clean.
Thanks for another great time and money saving video my mechanic here cuts those plungers off I did put a shut off valve on both mowers like you suggested
Great video! Haven’t been able to get mine to turn over since last year. Pulled off the solenoid and fixed the plunger that was stuck open and boom started right up! Thank you for the video! Super easy fix!
While mowing last week, engine shut off like out of gas. Found that the fuel cut off solenoid failed!!! Well that sure shortened my wait for having a cold beverage after mowing😂
I have a suggestion you can try on the next one... Unbolt the air horn from the carb before you pull the intake bolts. I have it allows eas to remove and reinstall the throttle link. 11mm socket fits the nuts on the air horn.
oh, are you having a german beer? Quite fine video, I will have to check my carburetor on that older Briggs mower soon. Thanks for showing how to do it.
Thank you for the video very informative. I too had the same problem but fuel solenoid that failed. And junk that the fuel nozzle. I simply remove the fuel solenoid & clean the carburetor up then installed a manual fuel shutoff valve.
I made the mistake of buying an aftermarket Nikei for my Briggs 22hp and it ran like poo. I had to get it running so I used the o -rings and jets etc from the replacement to rebuild my original. Wont make that mistake again. Thanks for all your guidance!
Enjoy watching your videos. I've got a toro 13 hp walk behind T handle the carb gummed up been sitting .Ineed to get one of those round tuits things I guess . Hope Y'all are having a great weekend thanks for sharing !!!!!!!!
Just finished with a snapper zero turn with fuel delivery problems, changed fiter...no better, very little fuel coming out of pump, changed pump.....no better, culprit was the fuel line inside the tank, was clogged up, replaced and it runs fine. Enoy your videos and have learned a lot about repair
Had this problem on a craftsman mower! Got it unstuck! Cleaned out the carb! Then I left it disconnected! And put a fuel, shutoff valve! In the, fuel line! not saying everyone can do this, per say! I just make sure I shut the valve off! And turn back on! it's worked great for the past, 8 years! Have a great day!

I had one that was pushing me towards the bottle a couple years back. Would run a few seconds and die. Checked the gas cap, fuel solenoid, carb multiple times, new fuel filter, new fuel pump, new fuel lines, flushed out the pickup tube from the fuel tank. NOTHING HELPED. Finally pulled the elbow off the pickup tube and found debris stuck in it, not enough to stop fuel or air flow, but enough restriction the pump couldn't keep the bowl full.

Those pesky caps. Radiator caps and gas caps can have multiple valves on a car.

Went to Mow grass next door mower cut off on me about 20 minutes into that.
After all that I found DEAD Bug Part's in Fuel line Pickup in Fuel Tank.
Had to remove Fuel tank and told Customer to Cover all there Fuel nozzles because that was the Problem !!!
Probably should replace cam and head gasket while you have it.
❤🎉 thanks for sharing you info. I have the same problema 🎉
Looks like gel in the bowl. 😮 7:03
Great job your the best 👍
Oh Deere the Nikki carburetor is needing a clean up Bree is the one that has the skills to get it done 😊
there's a prime case where i'd put an inline shutoff. when you are done for the year shut the fuel off and run the carb dry. "punch bug!!!! no punch backs!!!"
My family would play "slug bug" when we go to Mexico, but decided bruises don't look good with our tans. LOL! There is one every 10 feet!
perfect impression on video title photo cover.. lol
Glad I found your channel
Excellent beer by the way...
Most problems I see are fuel related. Carb, gas cap vent, choke not closing fully etc.
And of course fried electrics, even alternators cause they jump-start them from a car etc.
Killer beer as well!!!!
