CUTTING LOTS OF ROCKS FOR THE FIRST TIME!

  • This is a video taken over the course of a few weekends in which I cut many many rocks that have been in my collection and I've been dying to cut and see what's inside but I hadn't had a saw... until now. This is a Hi-Tech 10” inch slab saw.
Most of the stones in this video are from places in Washington or Oregon. I cut rocks from the Yakima River, Red Top, Biggs OR, Lincoln City OR, Washougal WA, Rimrock Lake, and the Yakima River Canyon as well as one piece of Crazy Lace Agate I purchased at an estate sale. I cut thundereggs, agates, geodes, jasper among other things I'm unsure of. I hope you enjoy!
Takeaway: cutting hard minerals takes a long time! But it's well worth it.

Heck yeah! Congratulations on the new saw. Cutting rocks is an critical step in learning about rocks and minerals.
You have some really lovely cuts there.

Rocks are like people. Some look gruff and rugged on the outside, but when you pierce their crusty exterior you find that they're very beautiful inside. Congrats on the video.

@@Shannon_Michael_W. oh yeah that was an issue for me too. I’m glad I chose the lapidary saw rather than a tile saw because there isn’t much mess so I can do it inside.

Congratulations! I started cutting a year or so ago. I guess 2 years now... Enjoy it. Next you'll need a good polishing wheel.
    Keep on rocking bro.

Haha thanks man, I figured it was a hassle for me to film the cutting anyway so I figured I’d go no frills

I run my saw at about an inch of cut in about five minutes. It has a power feed so I can do other stuff while it cuts. Still have to be there to listen in case something happens.
Looks like you might have a little runout on your blade.

Would have been a lot better if you had cut these to show maximum surface area. Most of these cuts are at the smallest part of the rock.
