There is exactly one reason why manufacturers are getting of engine oil dipsticks and that's to hide oil consumption. A dipstick can give a pretty precise idea of how much oil is being consumed. A vague digital measurement won't give you that. It will be very interesting to see if Ram gives fleet buyers a dipstick. I doubt many fleet customers want engines that don't have dipsticks. If that ends up being the case, the engine will have provisions for a dipstick and a part that guys can buy and install if they still want one.

I agree with you but would add that it’s never a good idea to buy a vehicle that has a newly designed engine, it’s best to wait a few years IMO.

Same. I’m shopping for a Ford truck this year, which really bothers me.

@@proudamerican5518”FORD” 👎 Check out you tuber “I Do cars” check out his engine tear down videos both “1st” and “2nd” generation eco-boost …. The “2nd” generation has a rubber belt “INSIDE” the engine to drive the oil pump. “1st” generation was a “CHAIN”
I do cars guy was very “PROFESSIONAL “in his presentation he expressed “DISAPPOINTMENT” in this “DIRECTION” Ford has chosen which also is in the “5.0” V-8. You must make the time to see that tear down video. Think about it a “RUBBER” belt inside the engine “IMMERSED” in hot engine oil a recipe for failure.

Hearing they were going to ditch the hemi was one of the best parts of this year. This makes me want to switch to FCA

Own a 2015 Ram 1500 hemi v8 and never letting it go. Keep up with maintenance and don’t over idle it and it’s reliable and trustworthy.

As a IT professional, I strongly dislike the idea of electronic controls for EVERYTHING in these newer vehicles. No dipsticks, plastic oil coolers, and over complicated maintenance access, they are most definitely making new automobiles disposable. 70k and it wont last 10 years. Shameful.

Totally agree ,i want a dipstick for 80 grand dammit … i am keeping my old jeep just put a new crate engine in it rebuilt both diffs , transfer case and trans. Body os still perfect no rust , thanks to fluid film . Cost me in total $12,000 paid cash ,,now i got a new jeep and no payments.. good for another 200,000 miles , yea she may creek a little hear and there , but not paying that note for junk every month is worth it to me..

And now the cummins will likely be detuned as well to meet emissions...legitimately.

Honestly I’m surprised to hear about the tow rating being as low as it is. I was kind of excited after seeing the dyno sheets cause it has so much more power…

I agree 100 percent. I have owned 4 Ram trucks now over the past 13 years and have no desire to purchase a new one with the I6. I feel many Ram owners will step over to the dark side just to keep a trusty V8. My plan is to hold onto what I have and see what happens once we get a new administration into office. I heard rumors of a new V8 according to Butter Da Insider but for now the future looks grim.

Well, if you don´t want to continue to be the 2nd most polluting country on this planet after China, then you have to start to rethink, and maybe look at other options than 12.5 Litre diesels and petrol-engines 🙂

The 5.7L wasn’t a good motor, lets not act like it was. I had a 19’ Longhorn 4WD 3.92s got 12 mpg on stock tires. Everyone said it needed to “break in”. It never did. Incredibly fuel inefficient. If I’m paying 12 mpg to drive, it’s not in a pos 5.7. I hated that truck. And don’t get me started on the etorque gimmic. Horrible addition.

My 6.2 in my 23 1500 gets just over 15mpg city (around 21-22 highway) and I haven't even broke it in yet. I always liked the look of the Rams but everyone I know whose had one has done nothing but complain about it. Love my Denali.

that’s true I had a 20 with 4x4 and I was getting a hair over 13 mpg. I ended up stepping down to a mid size truck because I couldn’t take it. I think I would have been happy with the v6 but the market changed and the price didn’t make sense anymore. Now I’m probably forever a midsize guy.

And yet there are countless millions of them on the road with very high mileage on them. I had one that was 12 years old with 100K on it last year that was flawless. I traded it for the Mustang 5.0 and regretted it.

I've had 4 hemis... 2009 ram Laramie, 2006 grand cherokee overland, 2017 ram limited and now a 2016 ram 2500 6.4 limited. I, for the most part, love ram trucks... But I'm glad to see the hemi go. It's not great at anything... Terrible mpg and weak low end power.
I traded that 17 ram limited on a 2016 f150 ecoboost platinum and that ecoboost beat the brakes off all of my hemis in every category except for reliability.. Power, mpg, nvh ect. It towed similar to a diesel, low revs and barely ever had to downshift.
If the 3.0 turbo proves reliable it will 100% be a more enjoyable engine than the hemi ever was. Everything else about the brand you stated I agree with though. They need to get their shit together ASAP
