  • The Polygon Bend R9X is a unique gravel bike; it features high end components like wireless shifting and carbon wheels bolted to an aggressive, mountain bike inspired aluminum frame. We've been fortunate enough to spend the last couple months getting to know the bike, and are for the most part quite impressed, albeit with a few quirks and caveats. Watch the video to learn more!

The geo is almost exactly the same as my custom Seven Evergreen XX. My intent was for an adventure gravel too, not aggressive racer. I agree with your points. I’d get the Bend 7, since those Novatech wheels are crap. Use the savings to get a custom wheel set with nice hubs and wider rims. Throw a CushCore or other insert with 700x45. As for the dropper post, I have an ENVE gravel dropper post. It’s only 40mm and doesn’t do much for lowering my saddle. I think it’s intended just for a not so aggressive riding position and just to get you slightly less perched over your bars.

Right on, thanks for sharing! How do you like your Evergreen?

Excellent review! I think your advice of going with the cheaper R7 and making it your own makes a lot of sense- I would also like more range for climbing.
Did you feel cramped at all? I feel like the stem is super short.

Thank you! And yes, definitely a short little stem. I like the steering response of the shorter stem, but wish the frame’s reach was a bit longer to compensate. If it were mine to keep I’d look into trying a 60mm stem on it

Thanks for the great review! I’m considering the R9X as I’m looking for a single track capable gravel bike, primarily for bike packing. Dustin Klein also reviewed the bike, giving the bike high marks, but I do appreciate your focus on ride quality. I’m also looking at the Canyon CF 7, but I hear complaints about their seat-post clamping system. Thoughts?

Right on, thanks man! Yeah the GRZL is a sweet bike, I think if you prioritize a lighter bike it’s the way to go (I’ve never ridden that bike so I sadly can’t speak to ride feel), but if you want a more MTB vibe if that single track is techy than I think the R9X could be a better way to go

WARNING....I just got my new Bend and it came with defective wheels that wont seal because the valve stem holes are drilled way off center and Polygon will not replace

I appreciate the heads up! It looks like Polygon only warranty their frames. It does look like the wheels have a two year warranty from Novatec though. See below: Hope this helps!
      Warranty Coverage
Polygon warranty only covers bike frame and non-suspension fork.
ENTITY-branded parts and electricity components equipped on E-bike.
Paint and sticker are not covered in this warranty.
Warranty does not cover wear items such as: bearings, bushings, tires, tubes, rims, brake pads, brake and shifter cables-casings-hose, chains, gears, handle grips, bar tapes, and saddles which are subject to varying wear life depending on use, load, weather, road conditions etc.
      Novatec:
      Warranty
      1. Enjoy a two-year warranty from the date of purchase
      2. Non-original purchasers are not covered by this two-year warranty
      3. During the warranty period, a set of wheels can be replaced for free if there is a frame burnt phenomenon under normal use after being judged by Novatec
