Alaska is a genuine tier 9.5, such a versatile ship with BC armour and guns but with radar and hydro and a low citadel
Not just a low citadel. It’s literally below the waterline.
The only real knock against Alaska, even with several years of serious power creep and the advent of super ships, is the fire burn times. But smart use of captain skills, flags, equipment modules and heals can mitigate a lot of even that.
@AnthonyBowman agreed the 60s fire time is a major downside, but it at least make it feel like a tier 9 BB. Still think it's the best ship for an up tier match in the whole game
I bought that a couple years ago during the Black Friday sales. One of my favorite cruisers, just got to keep angled and it does exceptionally well
You just rolled around literally hard flanked by 2 battleships (yes, one a hybrid, but a better Nebraska player burns you down with planes), and you not only survive but you kill the Nebraska with a larger health pool than you at the start of the engagement, but you only go down to half health.
Alaska is a baller tank, and can punish things if RNJesus blesses you even a little bit.
And a 2-shot kill on a healthy Chakalov? Come on dude, that's gangster AF.
I would love to see how you play the Atago B. Thank you for your time spent on making content.
My man's sitting out here open-water trading with a T8 406 mm BB and complaining about the damage output lmao. No other T9 cruiser (except maybe Riga?) could do that while losing so little HP.
not tanky enough ?!?!?!? you were focused by 2 BB`s which you out tanked one of which was soviet ! achieved citadel`s on another BC then got 6 citadels on a soviet CV ....... what the heck would make you happy ?
So hyped to give my new Alaska a spin. Lucky to get her, too (from one of the containers in the sequential bundles leading to Repulse). Dem improved ricochet angles be spicy.
That's some good luck. From another Alaska B owner, I hope you have a good time in it. Did you go all the way and get the Repulse B too or was it just some of the containers you picked up?
@@maltemejlstrup4746 Definitely insane luck (considering I also got Brandenburg B from a container for the Voyage to the Arctic event). And yeah, I bought the whole bundle chain (I was after Repulse, ultimately).
@@AidanDracole That's nice. I bought the whole bundle too. Yeah I already had the regular Repulse that I got for free from the dockyard it was first introduced in but I figured that since I got the regular for free, the black version would basically give me some bonus doubloons. That and I just wanted my favorite tier VI ship in the beautiful black camo. I din't get any other ships from the containers in the bundle but the stuff I got was still useful so it's all good. I did contemplate also buying some containers but I think I'll wait for the santa containers to do that instead. I'm just happy with my Repulse B right now. The sequential bundles always tend to be worth it.
those black friday containers are pretty good imo, i got scharnhorst b,kearsarge b and sims b from 10 opened containers, sadly no alaska for me but i ended up buying it directly
@@CrissTRG I am contemplating buying some but I also bought the sequential bundle so idk. I do also like to save some money for santa containers.
You should do a "favorites" video. Which are your favorites in all ship types. I would value that as I have the same preferences as you toward accuracy, and ship type.
This thing is way better in Ranked than on Randoms.
Bought 25 crates and got 11 ships - then took the dubs I got from the Iwami B and Brandon B, missions added them to my dub total and bought the Repulse B. Now time to buy a lotto ticket.

Finally someone addressing the downsides of this ship rather than buying into the Alaska cult fan bois.
It's a great ship when you're countering bad- mildly average players. When facing people who actually knows what they are doing, regarding what ship they playing, being in an Alaska really isn't a fun and engaging experience.
The only super cruisers worth playing are Stalingrad, Marseille and Puerto Rico. Stalingrad for the the Soviet tech, Marseille for the speed and concealment, PR for a mini Monty experience. Alaska is super good too, but it gets super clapped by battleships through nose.

Alaska is a gud boat and I'm glad I have her... But these days I take out my Puerto Rico instead. If I'm going to be facing tier 10 and super ships I might as well get the extra firepower. If I were playing tier 9 ranked or clan battles though and I wasn't grinding a tech tree ship (seems like I always am) she would be high on my list of premiums to choose. The versatility of near battleship firepower combined with radar and sonar in a ship that has decent AA, better than battleship dispersion and faster than battleship reload is hard to beat.
BTW I NEVER get players on the red team that are as dumb as the ones that face PQ and other streamers. I means seriously I would have been dead in two salvos if I sat still on the edge of a map like that instead of being almost completely missed by every shot that hybrid took. Also it ain't Alaska's fault that RNG screwed you on the fires. THAT is something that happens to me over and over and over and over again and of course the first salvo of HE ALWAYS seems to light a fire on my ships in return.
I love the PR. Probably shouldn't bother with Alaska, then?
@@jackcasse do you play ranked and clan battles a lot? If you do she's one of the best you can get for those. Play brawls? She's top notch there too. But if all you ever play is random I don't think she is worth IRL money if you already have PR. PR has some drawbacks Alaska doesn't (worse dispersion for the main guns being the biggest one) but if you are going to get double up tiered in an Alaska and face super ships you may as well get the added fire power and slightly better specs of PR instead. I have both. I love both my original comment is not really a dig against Alaska as much as it is a dig at matchmaker for screwing so many people over with double up tier match making.
If you're wondering why BB captains DCP one fire, it's because experience has not taught them to do differently. 🙄
Everyone talking about the supreme ship ALASKA ... And in my hands its one of the MOST AWFUL ships I have ever had.
Its like a big, clumsy Des Moines without DPM.

I always had far better luck with Alaska B once a clanmate advised me to always Heavy AP, that plunging fire with Heavy totally made the ship make sense. Learning her angles was the next lesson and am glad i did. She becomes a real monster with that hydro/radar playing peekaboo with islands, especially if you have comms with Div or clan mates. Truly a favorite if you have the mindset for her unique abilities.
As Flamu put it *S TIER* in ranked if you know how to use her, I'm ok with her but better like you in BB's great Cruiser though.

For me it's my moneymaker. But it burns like a bb and the reload time is terrible....
I had luck with the north pole tokens and in my first black friday premium container got her, its a really powerfull cruiser, never less than a 100k damage dealt in the 20-something battles ive played in her (and im an average 52% winrate player, not a whaler and often sending full W just for the fun)
I've opened 4 and not a single ship, just stupid flags.

Reminds me of my surprise when I opened a large number of supercontainers during anniversary celebration and didn't get a single ship.
I remember flanking on a failing side with Alaska, with my teammates, I ate a lot of the enemies broadside and won the game.

i bought 3 premium BF containers with the tokens (i got the 100 tokens from the battlepass) and no joking, i got 2 ships: Alaska B and Napoli B. The other was the Commander XP packagge. I am happy.

Alaskas better than Napoli despite being a tier lower imo
The only thing Napoli brings is SAP secondaries and exhaust smoke.
@@thegreatid3595 I have both Alaska and Napoli , both I got for coal , and Alaska is more battlecruiser with radar , you have limited strategy , on the other side , Napoli have great AP & HE , have rolling smoke , torps & secondaries that are handy , playing Napoli is much more fun.
i wonder who has better pen Agir or Alaska?
Aegir has marginally better AP pen than Alaska at most ranges. However, Alaska is better because of the vastly improved ricochet angles (60-68 instead of Aegir's (well, almost everyone else's for that matter, at least where the large cruisers are concerned) normal 45-60), allowing her damage dealing potential to be a great deal more flexible.
Agir has better pen alaska has better richoche angles but remember american shells are very slow for the meta azuma/yoshino is better even agir in close range
I always thought Alaska's dispersion was bad, until I got Puerto Rico. Now she feels like an Elbing! 😄

Just happened to take out Buffalo before watching this. (I do this from time to time. Ought to sell it, but keep hoping for a miracle.) What a contrast. Alaska’s guns are a bit weak for their tier and caliber, but it is playable in a Tier X game. Buffalo just isn’t.
I have the gray version of Alaska, and it is one of the few cruisers I consistently actually enjoy in high tier games. For me, being based on an actual real-world ship is a plus. Roon seems a bit more tanky, but the guns are nowhere near as good.
for some odd reason, I have the starter T8 congress and the T10 Pay to Rico, these to ships have very good dispersion, watching this vid, alaska's dispersion seems shit. Still one of those ships Im wary about whenever I see it XD

Definitely agree with the statement that battlecruisers combine the worst of battleships and cruisers. 60s fires and the inability to get fire prevention is the worst. Sub homing torps get the tighter cruiser homing but you don’t have the maneuverability to dodge those torps. 5s DCP is also very sad.

One thing that would really help supercruisers would be if WG reduces the maximum amount of fires on all Cruisers to 3. Also fires on DDs to 3 or 2.

I love my Alaska , as some have said stay angled and have fun , i spec into heavy AP , and boy cit city .
How do you get to hunt down the single remaining ship? My games always end when we're doing well and there's two or three enemy ships left.

AK is probably the most powerful super cruiser up to T10. No regrets picking her up the first year I started playing. She's ok in random, but ranked and clan battles is where she really earns her keep.

Alaska by far is my favorite bote in the game, by far. The skill floor is high, but the ceiling is high too. A well played Alaska is absolutely S-tier, especially in Ranked. It has all of the utility including good ASW. You can solo non-supership BBs all day long and win the fights more often than not. And if you can get Halsey to proc, lights outs.
Plus, I think she is just the nicest looking US ship in the game, period.
For the record, I play a lighthouse build with Alaska.

Alaska B or Black B for a new player looking for t9s?
Alaska B is more forgiving and is one of the best t9 crusiers. Black B requires a higher skill ceiling and is difficult for newbies.
Alaska. You can get Black anytime for coal.

Definitely didn't age badly its still one of if not the best tier 9 cruiser in ranked.

Slapping a new camo on a ship and calling it a new ship is one of WG's more cynical moves.
They aren’t calling them new ships. They just put the camo in them to stay in theme with the sale date. These ships are otherwise unobtainable unless you get insanely lucky with a super container, so making them available once a year is a good thing.
They are selling them as new ships, instead of just selling the Black camo at a much-reduced price. That is the point I was making.@@AnthonyBowman

because it plays like a battleship. and everything is designed to farm battleships. battle cruisers and ships like alaska aren’t enjoyable in the current meta. think they want to make it more cruiser-like
