    I love the sideroads awning on the back of my Subaru Forester. I also used two telescoping poles to elevate it higher, remove the poles at night, and stake them to the ground.

      I was just going to ask if anyone raises the bottom edge to elevate it for a better view. Thanks!

      How does the Sideroads protect you from rain? That's mostly why I'm looking for an awning.

  • @HenriettaFoster
    @HenriettaFoster 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I have the Sideroads and have used it on the side of my 4Runner. There really is a lot of space underneath for a folding table, couple camp chairs, and luggable loo. Putting it up by yourself in windy conditions is challenging.
    I hang a Luci light from the lantern hook and attach Luci string lights to the awning edge. Plenty of light.
    On one trip it rained a couple days straight and the space underneath was dry except for drips from the lantern hanging strap. It needs a bit of tent seam sealer.

    Used sideroads yesterday...in ❤. Used on side of minivan. Perfect after 20 yrs of minivan camping with no outside extension or tarp for added comfort, this thing is my favorite outdoor accessory now necessity....you need to correct your setup info as the small pole goes overtop of tent or tarp not under the 2 longer poles. Adds stability and the big hooks secure them together as the last step. Also the feature of the shelter with options for spacing tent pegs was not addressed by showing the sewn in strip of binding at the 2 side of door flaps. Also the inner loop for hanging a lite another bonus..🇨🇦

    Thanks for reviewing. I think the backroads is the way to go for me. Been stuck in our teardrop too many times now due to rain. I'm over it. ....btw, brow pole should go over the main poles on the Sideroads and Backroads. :)

      Yes, Alex, that's right. We cringed at the two times on two versions when he did the cross pole low, and had a lower roof. Just got our Backroads last night at REI, tried it today in the backyard, and love it.

    Kelty is definitely innovative(if these are original designs). But I can’t see myself buying anything with fiberglass poles ever since I had an issue with a brand new kelty tent.

    I can set my waypoint tarp up in about 4 minutes you attach the tarp to the car put the pole under the tarp and stake in the guide line closets to the pole and then the rest of the guide lines. Really easy if you use common sense and practice a couple times.

    • @lovedogsontheloose
      @lovedogsontheloose ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it does keep out water? I read a couple of reviews that said it leaked pretty badly in rain. That has been making me hesitant to buy.

    • @travelingwhilebutch
      @travelingwhilebutch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lovedogsontheloose Never had issues with it leaking. It's not a tent, so it's not going to be waterproof.....it's more like an awning. And since it doesn't have a seal at the top where it connects with your car, it could probably leak....though I am not sure what you mean by leaking.

    I have a Kelty sideroads and I love it. I'm here in Quartzsite and it has stood up to up to 35 mile an hour winds with no issues. I had it hooked to the side of my Nissan Rogue and it worked great, but I also have tried it hooked over the entrance to my tent, and that worked beautifully as well, my tent is tall enough for a six footer to stand up inside and it gives the canopy the perfect height. I love the sideroads and would unhesitatingly recommend it. Although I admit this makes me think about the Backroads as well

    • @carmenmartinez2882
      @carmenmartinez2882 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, I have the sideroads and love it but this makes me think about more privacy, you can probably take a comfortable shower in there since it doesn’t have a floor and leave the little pop up at home retired.

    Really enjoyed your video! Outdoor cooking is so great! I am wondering if I can use the Backroads on the back of my truck camper which is actually quite low. The camper door is about 91" from the ground to top of door. If I pull the shelter forward and up 91" will I have any room left in the front of the shelter? Thoughts?

    We love our Backroads awning. We use it over the galley of our teardrop trailer. We set up a sizable fold up table with our kitchen gear and chairs. Great for making coffee on a cool morning, stands up to the wind and allows us to sit underneath to get out of a light rain. Perfect for us and 2 Doodles.

    If you have an suv with a roof rack the slumberjack roadhouse tarp for $100 is probably your best go to for the price. You can configure it a few different ways, i keep one in the 3rd gen 4runner had it for 3year's now and love it. They have screened in version i just bought and used last weekend but its $300.

    I have the same vehicle as you and because of your video, I ordered the Backroads. I've been using it off the back where I keep all my kitchen stuff and love it. So easy to put up. I wanted the Backroads to go off the side so that I can have privacy when getting in/out of my CRV so I have also ordered the Sideroads that I am going have on the rear for the covered kitchen. I believe they both will fit but by reviewing your video again I think I will need to put the rear awning on first since it will sit a little lower that the one on the side. Will see. But again, your video was very helpful with my decision making on both purchases. Thanks!

    I'm considering the Kelty Sideroads, but I'm a small woman, 5'1" and 123 lbs. That looks like a whole lot of fabric to deal with, and then you lifted it up and carried it to your vehicle. I drive and camp in a bigger SUV, a 2003 Yukon XL, so it's tall, but I keep a step stool in it. Can you give me an idea of how realistic you think it would be for me to handle this alone?

    This is a pretty cool product, and we just bought one two days ago. The evening after buying this product, we found that one of the pols' elastic chord had been broken at one end and the segments of one of the longer poles would not stay together. So, after some work, we were able to tie a small nylon chord to both ends of the broken elastic chord. We contacted Kelty and got a huge argument from them about replacing the pole under warranty. They gave us zero options until I threatened to review them negatively on the internet. They then told me to destroy the shelter (cut it up and break the poles) and send pictures that we destroyed it, and they would send a new one. IT WAS JUST THE POLE! Why destroy the whole thing? After contacting a customer service (CS) manager, the CS rep offered to replace just the pole, but asked for a proof of purchase (which we had already sent them) along with pictures of the damage. Unfortunately, we didn't take pictures of the damage before we tried our own repair. Now, the damage is hidden in the pole segment and we would have had to break it to get to the damage to take a picture. So, we'll just wait for it to break again. Not sure I would purchase another Kelty product after this CS experience.

      @Chef Corso one downside is that it probably needs two people to set up, but the level of full coverage plus a fully enclosed space is pretty intriguing. This checks a few boxes the Backroads does not: fully enclosed with a floor plus awning. Detachable to hold your site while you go off with your vehicle. It's really new, so no one has reviewed it yet, apart from one that was just a features review and not a practical review. I vanlife in a Ford Escape and have the sideroads. The viability of this over my extant free standing car camping tent plus tarps and ridgelines. The cover rivals the Backroads but the space seems much bigger.
