Tips for London you can use your Debit card on the Tube also if your only going one or 2 stops it's usually Quicker to Walk and when your Hungry just go in Aldi and get snacks don't get ripped off
James I hadn't been to London till 3 years ago Im 63! we have been twice and now I absolutely love it I was scared of going on the underground but it is so easy to get around, The National Gallery was my favourite xxx
Very enjoyable viewing yet again James. As ive only ever been on the tube one weekend, Was back in 1990s As Jaynes company had dues away in hotels for its employees. We had catch a train from cheshire to London and stayed at royal lancaster hotel. Whilst there we had get to a theatre for a show and used the tube to get there and back. Luckily Jayne was savvy and we didnt get lost. We had a great time in that hotel and London in general. Thanks James for stirring my memory banks yet again. As you can tell im still working my way through all your vids.
Tate Modern when i last went to londinastan reminded me of the paintings 5 year olds would send in the the show of there cat or dog on tony hart or the local news. shit hole full of everyone but Londoners. your very brave walking around with a few bobs worth of camera. hope you get back up north without getting mugged.
I know central London very well, I've been here over 15 years now, you covered quite some distance, any wonder you were knackered! I could have been your guide but I'm a bit camera shy. As you said it's hard to avoid the tourists but at least you stayed away from Oxford Street which is always a nightmare. Camden is my favorite part, it still has many great live music venues where I've spent a lot of time. Thanks for sharing as always James.
James you should take Helen to London at Christmas time, it's magical, and the atmosphere is electric.I've been going for the past 12 years and it gets better every year. Great vlog by the way, I'm hooked ❤
Having been to London about 7 or 8 times this year watching the Mighty Blades and visiting my kids one thing I will say is that London has some fantastic old proper pubs. You could easily do a very entertaining series visiting a lot of them with Hellsbells.
Londons my home town. Live and work here. I drive for a living, so I get to see the sights all day every day. Never get bored of it. It’s mad how it’s full of tourists every day. There’s nothing to be scared of, same as any place. Watch out for nutters and weirdo’s
St Paul’s Cathedral has a youth hostel across the road that was the choir boys house once. It cost us £18 for the night for a room for four, they even let us put our milk in their personal fridge, as this one didn’t have cooking facilities like most ..hence so cheap x x x 🌈✝️🕊️😇😘🥰😍
Like others have said ‘it does wear you out mentally and physically’ It’s always been busy up there but there are some really good sights to see especially inner London, Outer London done bother unfortunately it’s like downtown Pakistani with rubbish to go with it Keep up the vids 👍
I've really enjoyed this walkalong, your voice is so calm and relaxing that it can even make London seem laid back. Thank you James, I'm looking forward to the next installment. All the best.
Me n dragon caught up on most vlogs. Love them all. The London one far to busy for me I used to drive 60 foot long car transporter through London night mare but have driven through Camden loads. Under that bridge as well 😬😬😬😬
Thanks James, another brilliant video 💚 America is my homeland, I live in north Wales, but I spent the majority of my life (just over 43 years) living and working in central London, and in my humble opinion, absolutely nowhere else in the UK compares to it. I may not live there now, but it will always be home ❤🧡💛
I think, maybe you were looking at 20, Fenchurch St as you crossed the Millenium Bridge, aka, The Walkie Talkie,(the one that melted cars when the shone shone on it) but there's a newer one with sharp angles called the Cheesegrater & behind that , the Gherkin ?
Thanks James! I went on a boat trip with my daughter and brother on the canal a few years ago! Camp den Market was enjoyable! She used to have a flat in Hampstead! Thanks again for the memories! 🙏
Brilliant vlog. Only been to Natural History Museum and Harrods so it was great to look around Camden and your experience on the underground. Can't wait for the next one, Edinburgh is a beautiful city but I think you are going to be more than a bit tired sleeping on a train seat😮
Hi.James. Once again we have really enjoyed your video. Was tired out watching you. You did really well for your first time there. We were there few weeks ago and we nearly fell through the floor with some of the prices. For a Pint and a glass of Wine it cost my Husband £19. But that's London and the South prices. Thank goodness we live up North. Once again well done. And you and Helen do come to Sunderland. Hope to bump into you. Will buy you a pint.😊❤
I believe they filmed First Dates next to St. Paul’s at something called something like Panamoster street, close, road etc right opposite the steps of St.Pauls.
enjoy your trip to edinburgh royal mile high street victoria street grass market holyrood palace mind and have a look down the closes on the royal mile
So sad how Camden market has shrunk in size over the decades, used to be huge markets over both sides of the road, but has slowly been sold off at huge profits for luxury flats, its a shadow of its former glory. There used to be sooo many more independent stalls, now its more and more generic tatt for tourists. Bruff market had me roaring , your mate stitched you right up 😂I bet the prices for a pint was a shock for you! As a southerner its nice to see you down here covering somewhere I used to frequent James, great solo vlog cramming alot in bud 👍🏻
The toaster building is the walkie talkie and it has a great free viewing garden at the top, you need to book a slot in advance but it is free. Great views every bit as good as the stupidly expensive Shard.
Great James - Visiting Scotland at last. Try and make it up to top of Arthur’s Seat. Great views & a little bit of countryside in the centre of Edinburgh. You’ll love it❤
Well done James 😊😊 you did so well in that busy place and on your own! Brilliant job, Not walked it since the 80s so thanks for sharing your journey ! Top Job 😊😊
You're right, London would be the perfect place to practice vlogging. You were fitting in well with all the other tourists. I'm always checking with people when I get on foreign trains, worried I might be on the wrong one. I did it once in Madrid but quickly got off and then over to the other side with the right one. I love those narrowboats and have watched a few YT channels with them, it would be a fun experience I think. Hope you've been having fun in Edinburgh, I really enjoyed visiting that city. Well wishes to you.
I have walked the route you are on many times. Had a few pints in the Anchor. See the Golden Hinde go across the Millenium Bridge to St Paul.s Cathedral great walk
My elder daughter lived in an apartment at Paddington Basin at one time , the lounge and kitchen both had big balconies off them& they overlooked the Grand Canal 🎉
Wow! Great job! You chose a fantastic route with great London highlights. You can just use your bank card, don't need an oyster card. And, if you were there longer I think you'd find the buses really handy...
Enjoying your current UK travel James, look forward to the Edinburgh, my favourite city. Good job on your tutoring Rebecca with her first vlog. My evenings here in CA are made complete when watching your adventures and aslo with Helen Thank you both.
I was a m/c dispatch rider based out of Soho when I was late teens/ early twenties. I saw a lot of amusing things but never wished to live there, (then and now, ) but it is a great city to visit. Far too busy, noisy etc for me, but great people and I met a lot of friends in London
Hi James, I hope you enjoyed London, though it does take a lot more time to appreciate the place. Welcome to Edinburgh James. Witherspoons place is called The Booking Office which is in the Waverley Bridge, round the corner from the Waverley Station to the left. Great grub and a good pint of Tenants lager. As I have aged a bit, I prefer a Tenants lager shanty. I hope you enjoy your short stay James. All the best! 🤗🤗🤗
Used to go in the Old Cheshire Cheese in the 70s, when i worked at King's College Uni, and the building you that you was not quite sure of, is known as the walkie talkie building, and has a roof garden that you can visit for free. As you say to busy now, to cosmopolitan even for my liking being and old Londoner in my 70s, only go to see a show or two now.
Crikey…that’s a blast from the past, I used to be a regular in The Cheshire Cheese some 27 years ago (it wasn’t over £6 a pint!) I also used to buy clothes and records from Camden Market before it became too trendy, we knew the market from playing Dingwalls (probably gone now) which used to be an excellent venue where I played drums in our awful punk band ‘Bladder Bladder Bladder’… don’t ask!🤷♂️🤣. Good memories I spent 10 years down there before returning to Stockport where I am now happily retired.
Thanks for this lovely vlog James, enjoyed seeing London ,as not been for many years, parts looked better than I expected 😊 You must be knackered all that walking, anyway enjoy your trip to Edinburgh, look forward to it 😀 ❤❤
Make sure you go down to the Shore in Leith. You can get the tram or a 25 or 16 bus directly across from Waverley. Bus fares are good value. It’s about 20 mins from the train station. Portrait Gallery in Queen Street (10 mins walk from station). Royal Mile is FULL of history but tourist central (I’m not complaining!). So much to see and do but luckily it’s all city centre so you should get to see loads. Looking forward to this video!
I lived in Earls Court for a year. This was around 1994. Went there last year and it's a completely different vibe now. Difficult to explain without sounding bigoted so I won't bother. Great video James although 20 quid for a pint and a sarnie is ridiculous lol

Well James this is turning out to be a cracking series of vlogs, can't wait for the Edinburgh one it's a beautiful city. What on earth will you come up with next to beat this?
You did well for a novice in the time you had. When visiting big cities for the first time I always find it a good idea to use those hop on/hop off City Tour buses for the day. Saves a lot of foot-slogging.
Fabulous video, I have only been to the usual spots, saw a show at the Palladium and loved Soho. I posted a short video from there. How are your feet doing, I would have blisters on my blisters 😫 Looking forward to Edinburgh, we are going during the festival in August, fantastic street theatre and atmosphere.
“There’s always some nutter shouting” 😂 Yeah, there is 😂 You surprised me being a bit windy about getting on the tube etc. as you always strike me as a man who’s been there, done that. I do love a trip to London. There are so many amazing free museums and galleries and it has a certain vibe that you just don’t get anywhere else. You walked bloody miles though. I’d have been hopping on and off the tube for that but I’m old, unfit and lazy 😂 You made it look like it was all within the same area 😮😂
Like a proper Londoner you walked - there is so much more to see when you just head off in the general direction you want to go - yes London is expensive but what a city I’ll never live anywhere else
You did really well there James. My home town can be an intimidating place for the newcomer, but you covered a ton of ground in a very short space of time.. I get the feeling you were a bit on edge all the time though? Just to give some perspective on that... I would feel EXACTLY the same if I were ever to visit Baaaarnsley! 😂 In fact... I visited Blackpool about 40 years ago on a coach trip, and felt so self-concious of my Cockney accent...that I didnt want to SPEAK any more, after walking around for a bit. I couldnt wait to get back on the coach...and head back "home" to the smoke! 😅 Home is where the heart is... Be that London...or Barnsley.

It really hasn't changed that much.
I miss it so much but can’t afford to move back now sadly. Wish I’d never left it but hey ho.
the doughnut shop and the argentinian empenadas are a must if you ever go back to borough market.
That short road to the Savoy entrance is the only one in Britain where you drive on the right.

@geoffas no, I didn't, the Shard is on the south side of the river about 200 metres south west from London Bridge
It was 20 Fenchurch Street, he mentioned
@@kathchandler4919 You made a list. As far as I'm aware, the 'Shard' is one of those iconic London modern buildings.

I visited Blackpool about 40 years ago on a coach trip, and felt so self-concious of my Cockney accent...that I didnt want to SPEAK any more, after walking around for a bit.
I couldnt wait to get back on the coach...and head back "home" to the smoke! 😅
Home is where the heart is...
Be that London...or Barnsley.
To be fair, I felt safer in London than I did in Blackpool 😂
