That's why I love Murdoc, and the other band members of Gorillaz. They sometimes feel more 'real' than real pop-artists do. With these characters they show a whole spectrum of emotions, characteristics, how they act, how they live. They feel like real, sincere people on moments like this.
i love that the circumstances of them being fictional allows them to have character! i think real life celebrities have to hide behind a persona to avoid being criticized or having a scandal.
They're real icons. Imperfect from the beginning, so nothing can exactly "expose" them. They don't have to be perfect, because they are inherently flawed, as people are.

He’s a sad, lonely, old man who’s learned from his horrible upbringing to hide his emotions and insecurities behind a (somewhat) fake, over the top, asshole persona. I mean, he really is an ass but he plays it up a lot. Yet, it’s so interesting to see the real, sweet, but kind of fragile side of Murdoc in these interviews. Free my mans :(

He might be an ass but he still loves the band mates bc they’re the closest he’s ever had to a real family. He loves his band and he loves his fans. I love Murdoc, he’s definitely on the more complex side as a character but that’s what makes him more human(Z), I think he’s really just troubled and after Plastic Beach it seemed as though he was trying to put himself back together and before he went to prison he seemed really chill and not as angry and mean as usual
