GALAXY Z Fold 4: REMOVING THE SCREEN PROTECTOR!!!!!

  • One of the most annoying issues with Samsung's Fold devices is that the screen protector that comes pre-installed with these devices can start to peel after a while. I thgought that Samsung would have fixed this with the Z Fold 4, but they haven't. If you happen to live by a service center that can replace these, then getting this issue fixed as much easier. However, when there are other factors at play, then what are your options?

    I had the exact same problem 2 months ago. I decided to do the same things as you did and at first it was fine but after 2 weeks of having no screen protector the middle part of my fold started having a lot of scratches and now its neither pleasant nor fixable. I definitely do not recommend taking off the screen protector on your own, it is better getting it to samsung to replace your screen protector. Hope it helps!

      The screen cracks in the centter without a protector on it. Remove the original one when it's getting ugly or lifting of the screen and place one from Whitestone for example.

    Heat from a blow dryer needs to be applied for 4 min in all general directions at least 7 inches away from the screen inner screen and then proceed to remove the screen protector from the corner as the starting point using a plastic sheets corner and push inward until it comes off and then gently remove in a downward direction and same applies to the other 3 corners until the screen protector completely comes off.

      @WIHRC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you can get the fold 4 a decent price and don't mind having a generation older than what is going to eventually come, then I'd definitely say it's worth it. I've also been seeing some recent rumors that there may be a price like with the fold 5 and if Samsung's trade-in values for the S23 Ultra are anything to go off of then we may be seeing it be much harder to acquire Samsung's newer devices at a decent price.
      If I'm being honest and truthful, I'll most likely be getting the Fold 5 when I can, and when I see it being worth it but it'll mostly just be to create content for this channel.

  • @JavonS83

    I had these exact same issues with the Fold 3 and 4. It always seems to happen after a year ownership. I replaced my 3 with a 4 when it happened before, but for my 4 I took it to a repair shop and got the screen protector exchanged. I still have the issue of the phone not unfolding flat all the way anymore like yours does.
    I'm curious if these issues were fixed with the Fold 5 or not?

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's way past time that Samsung fixes or just omits the screen protectors all together. So far nothing has happened with the Fold 5 but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

  • @ArmChairPlum

    Now that you mention it, I also noticed that my fold4 stopped opening 100% flat.
    The inner protector started to come unstuck from the top middle.
    Small at first and now as I type this, the entirety of the middle folding section with a touch of the area after.
    Since the middle has now unstuck though, it seems like it now opens flat again.
    It took approx 18 months for the issue to occur.

    thanks for the video. I removed the screen protector (zf4). have you noticed permanent rainbow lines in the inner crease? Mine has this problem and I'm trying to get ahold of samsung care+ Not sure if I should worry because functions of inner display aren't hampered...

    • @sparky6757
      @sparky6757 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Sounds to me like micro fractures, if your screen protector is off and you're seeing that. To my understanding, it's nothing to worry about aside from the looks and trade in value - it isn't really a precursor to any worse damage, but it's not fixable either unless you want to replace the whole screen.
      If I were you, I'd just accept it and keep using it, it's not a *huge* deal and certainly not worth replacing the screen over when it costs as much as it does.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I never noticed that happening to mine, but I hear you on getting Samsung care+ involved. If they can change it without any issues, that would be ideal.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately it doesn't. Mine had a problem with the hinge and that's why it wouldn't lay flat but removing the protector wouldn't help if that's something that's already a problem.

    As an Apple user the foldables have always intrigued me.. I love the whole Phone turns into a tablet sort of thing and I understand the performance isnt as good as the s23 ultra. correct me if im wrong my apologies. I have seen videos of people worried about screen protection peeling and unfortunate actual screen peeling. or wearing out in the middle. How important is this Samsung screen protector ? are there 3rd party screen protectors for this phone? Im assuming no glass protectors ?

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Others might give you a different answer, but I would say, in my opinion, it's not important at all and in some ways enhances the experience of using a foldable. Samsung stated that it was afixed to the device to make it so that if the inner display shattered, the screen protector would catch the fragments. I made a recent update video about having the screen protector off for 74 days now and I haven't experienced anything that would alarm me after taking it off so I'd say it's not as important at all. I guess it does depend on how you treat your devices, though.

    Hey,
    I have had the same problems as you, hinge started to not open completely, and then the screen protector started to peel off from the top (all started about a week ago).
    You can actually use a small brush to clean the hinge and get the dust particules etc out of the hinge (they accumulate over time) and also use compressed air or blow into the cracks of the hinge and it will fix your problem. Just done it an hour ago and it opens all the way again now 😉. You will see that it it easier to do when the phone is almost folded all the way, it gives you extra room to clean it up.
    How is your experience so far after removing the screen protector ?
    Anyways, I hope my tip helps... i saw it online and it worked for me 😊.
    Greetings from France 🫡

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely appreciate the tips. I actually had been doing this before, and I believe that a small piece of the brush I was using got stuck between the hinge. It does seem to have gotten a bit better, which is something I mentioned in the follow-up to this video. Honestly, the experience has been something that hasn't been as cumbersome as I thought it would be. I can't say that I noticed too much of a difference or at least not enough to alarm me.

    This just started happening to my Fold 4 (maybe a year old?).....BUT the fold screen is "frozen" too. It won't accept any input on the touch screen. The front screen still works fine. Is this typically caused by a problem with the screen protector? Has anyone else experienced this? And would removing (or replacing) the screen protector fix this problem? Thanks in advance!

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Soo I'm not too sure if this is directly linked to the protector but the reason I removed the protector so carefully in the video is because I've always had the thought that the screen protector might mess with the integrity of the touch panel. In your case, I wonder if that's what happened.
      At this point, since it's not working, it might behoove you to remove it (As carefully as possible) and see whether it fixes it. If not, then I would definitely reach out to Samsung ASAP

Between me calling Samsung Repair Center numerous amounts of times trying to have them reserve a protector which they wouldnt, AND, having them say to me " Oh, I wouldn't peel it off, you can ruin the screen", I had enough. I peeled it off, which wasn't a big deal at all. I'm much happier. No bubbles, no wrinkles and I won't run the chance of having a new protector bubble up again. Just wanted to make sure not to damage the touch panel underneath the screen. Saw a teardown of the Fold and never realized it was soo thin.

    I know a guy that has this phone and his bubbled up so bad down the middle but he won’t take off the protector. So it makes and ugly ass plastic crunch sound when he opens his phone 😂
    I will say that this phone is definitely something I want to get but I’ll wait like 4 years until my 14 pro max starts to slowdown and the foldable technology is better

      I know that crunch sound very well LOL. I can definitely understand why he'd be reluctant to take it off but doing this is actually enhanced the experience with this phone for the better at least in my opinion.
      And I definitely hear you on keeping what you have right now till it can't run anymore.

    I don't get why more people don't like these phones. IMO this is the most innovative thing since the early Iphones, or since smart phones came out. When you look at Apple they just keep coming out with the same phone over and over. I remember the iphone 6 was really cool, and iphone x, but other than that it's all the same with a slightly different cpu and camera. Z fold is innovation, and could be MUCH better tbh. They could literally make something like the note 20 or w/e that opens like the z fold. It wouldn't even be that much more expensive because it would basically be a note 20, but since it's twice as big you have twice the space for hardware, so it doesn't have to be all cramped into a tiny space, have the same type of hinge/screen as z fold has. Only thing making it more expensive is the hinge and having 2 big screens because outside screen would be basically the same as the note phones had or w/e. I feel like these companies can do so much more, but they are milking every little tiny upgrade because people just keep buying all these crap phones, upgrading from 1 phone to another of almost the same phone, so why innovate, ya know?

      It feels like the initial fear of change and resistance, which eventually leads to acceptance. The Fold series and foladables, in general, are certainly innovative and should be considered, but not everybody is quick to adopt what is new, which is understandable. Plus, the prices do need to come down a bit.

      yeah the price is a bitch for sure. I think I caught like 3 deals at once or something, otherwise couldn't have got it @@WIHRC

    I was told it wasn't a warranty problem and i have to go through insurance and pay a $200 deductible

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is downright BS on every single level I can think of. If anything I'd speak to a manager or something like that if you haven't already but if not and you don't mind going without the screen protector it can definitely be done.

    the protextor is coming off at the top of my screen and going deep down the middle! i think this will happen to every fold 4 phone :/ So every fold 4 owner will have to spend 40-50 usd every 1,5 year.

      @WIHRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately that does seem like the case. I opted not to replace the screen protector at all because I was so annoyed with Samsung's process, but I was perfectly fine and had no issues with my device with the exception of the hinge.
      If anything it's best to have it replaced underneath the warranty since it's definitely a manufacturer's defect. Nobody should have to pay for this at all.

    Samsung repaired my hinge and afert 3 months it was doing it again. I cant stand it not being flat. Got a onepplus open and have not had any of the issues like i had on my fold 4. Fuck samsung garbage.
