    It seems to me that the ones you don't like are in fact Olive in colour, while Michael Harding, Sennelier and Turner Olive greens look more like Sap Green to me, and a lot of Sap Greens are too green IMO. One colour I find dubiously labelled is Moss Green - i live in Australia and moss looks bright green to me, but maybe it's because we have glaucous and greyish greens in our landscape. Please do Moss Green comparisons soon Thanks for your vids.

    Love the Michael Harding. That pigment is gorgeous, but what really what turned my head is the value range. I don't know if it's the camera but I could see me using all the values 1-10. Great video!

    I love this video it’s perfect to send to people who question why you need so many different brands and makes of water colours on all the colours the same? This is why we love watercolours and we collect different brands and pigments because you can have one pigment, but have so many different shades of it, and depending on where it’s sourced and how it’s treated the colours very again. This is a pasty justification video of why we like to buy so many watercolours variety is the spice of life.

    great demonstration of the span of shades - cool green to yellow green, and underlining there is no right or wrong shade here. it also feels that merely writing 'olive green' on the tube is not really enough information by some of these pro paint manufacturers. fortunately there are a few websites listing the actual hue values, and your visuals here are a big help towards purchasing. ty

    Yes! So excited for olive green! My favorites are the browner ones, I love Holbein so much lol, and I like the look of W&N here that you swatched, and I also really want M Harding olive now! 😍 I like a bright glowing sap and a brown olive on my palettes
    Thanks for all these awesome comparisons you do. ❤

    I LOVE greens, especially olive greens they always feel so cozy to me :> winsor and newtons olive green is one that i’ve been using, but i’ve been trying to find an alternative because it fades quite a bit in washes. and washes are how I use it lol. I find it’s really nice for muting reds and purples when i’m painting skin! besides the winsor and newton I really like the michael harding one you swatched, the value range is incredible!
    i’m guessing that the reason white nights has a black pigment in their olive is because mixing black with yellow often creates a muddy dark yellow-which we perceive as green. shadows often have a blue or purple bias, so even if it’s a dark yellow, adding blue makes it lean green :) also, many black pigments have a blue bias, and cool or middle yellows (like hansa yellow PY1) also lean towards green/blue rather than orange/red. the more blue it is, the more green it is lol

    It seems you like the fresh/ripe olive type of color, as opposed to the brined olive color. I agree 😊👍 I love the freshness that comes with it and the brightness really adds to the artwork.
    Thanks for sharing! 🙏☺

    I think W&N has the best version. Without the brown influence, it's too much like Sap Green. If you want a variety look into Raw Umber!

    I am so glad I discover your channel ! Honestly, you watch colors beautifully.
    Unlike many other swatch videos in which the light is so poor or badly calibrated causing the colors look off and different from they actually look in reality, the quality of your videos and perfect light allow us to see the colors accurately !
    P.S. I am a big fan of Opera Pink/Rose, Cobalt Violet and Viridian, hope you will swatch them !

    Your choices for the best are the same as mine. I thought the Winsor Newton looked pretty when wet, but dried a little too dull. Thanks for the comparison!

    Love the comparison video. It goes to show how diffrent all of these are to each other, i think ive only used the windor and newton version. I would need to look through my collection to see if its came in a set

    The Michael harding olive is the first time any brand beat out Daniel smith for my favorite. The Holbein looks a bit too much like a color you would see in a baby diaper.

    Would you consider DS Undersea Green “Olive Green”? Or maybe olive green “adjacent” lol

    • @MinaDoesArtStuff
      @MinaDoesArtStuff  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hmm thats a good question. I guess I would consider it a darker colour than a typical olive colour so probably more olive adjacent. I think of it as a dark earthy green and I love it!

  • @reneaclark7689
    @reneaclark7689 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My hang up about the Daniel Smith one is why? They have a beautiful green gold, why choose a three pigment mix when green gold is single pigment? Green gold is more luminous and beautiful, IMHO. Of these I like the M harding, sen, turners, and DV. Turners was my first nicer paint brand. Olive is in the set. It was a nice base green that you can easily warm or cool down.

    • @everartokelli
      @everartokelli 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      FYI, the original DS Green Gold was PG10, which was also a single pigment called green gold but was discontinued many years ago. It was a greener color than PY129 and the current mix is a reproduction or hue of that color. It's a very useful color for many artists, not meant to confuse :)

    • @reneaclark7689
      @reneaclark7689 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @everartokelli you know I inherited a large daniel smith collection, that had several discontinued pigments. I have a full pan of green gold, it was all dried in the tube and I cut it open. I am not 100% sure which pigment it was. It makes me wonder

    • @everartokelli
      @everartokelli 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's awesome to have an artist's legacy! I used up my PG10 tube long ago so memory of the original is hazy, but I think the way to figure out the difference is if you get that pushy nickel azo yellow undertone from the three pigment mix.
