    Hi Mina! Thanks for including my color in the line up. There's so much to love about different sap greens 🥰

      I love your version, its a pigment combo I would mix myself so having a premixed version has been such a joy!

    I like WN pg8 with quin gold or NAY for a sap green. I just completed a whole year in the window lightfast on pg8s, Rosa and WN held up very well, the shin han versions lost the yellow tone. I also love and use perylene green pbk31 and green gold py129 mixes for sappy greens.

      Thank you. Did you do other studies on lightfastness? Would love to hear about it...

    I do love (and have) both DaVinci colors. I especially love the natural tone of Denise's Green. But I usually tend to make my own variations using PY 150 and PB 60 or PB 60 and Daniel Smith's Quin Gold hue with PO 48 and PY 150. The PO 48 gives the mix an interesting moody quality that's amazing in woodland scenes with lots of evergreen trees and shadowy areas. I'm going to be very sad when DS exhausts their stash of PO 48.

    Love it. I like sap greens that have a warmish yellow tone . I have never seen colour swatches of all one colour before. I like that you put the chemical number it helps me understand it better

    Mijaelo's and shinhan's are my favorite (I own non of them tho). Will probably buy the mijaelo one

    Thankyou fot your great comparisons. I use Maimeriblu and would love to see how it compares. My own observation would sit it around the warmer, earthy side ((includes PO43). Their olive green is PG17 (chromium oxide) which is cooler.

    If you run water over the stuck cap it will come off. Give it about 15 seconds under a swift flow. Aim for the back of the cap.❤

    • @TracyIndy
      @TracyIndy 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Warm water at the base of the cap. I also use a towel for better grip and easier on my hands. I drip water on the paint tube threads to remove build up there and inside the cap, so it doesn’t happen again. Hope this helps. 😊

    Very nice comparison. Just like you I really favor the Daniel Smith and also Denise's Green. If I understand correctly, the original Hooker's was a mix of old-school gamboge and prussian blue. So yeah, not so lightfast. Some more modern versions from the 80s used PG8, but that turns out to be not so lightfast either. But a gorgeous pigment, true. I know Qor is expensive for you, but they make a wonderful Hooker's that goes so deep, it's PB60, PY150 and PR122.

    Fantastic video--thank you! I learned watercolor when sap green was either a base color that was adjusted to match botanicals (and we made up reference "wheels" with sap green in the middle and all the possible shades using our other colors), or used to "green up" another color for landscapes. We never used it straight. My fave tube sap green to use that way is Van Gogh. It's slightly less pigmented than artist grade paint, and works well to start a green mix or "bend" other colors green. A lot of these colors looked closer to Hooker's green to me, whicg makes sense if an artist is using it straight from the tube.

    Wow there is such a variety! Thank you for this-I just saved your swatching playlist. New to watercolor and this is so helpful in picking the shades I love! I originally got the Rosa Sap Green and I always find myself adding something warm to it. When I use it up I think I’ll snag the Daniel Smith because I’ve been enjoying those paints. Many pretty shades here!

    I have most of these and after seeing this, I'm surprised that I really like Shinhan's Sap Green. I was really disappointed by M. Graham's Sap Green and Mission Gold's Sap Green, but now I'll have to buy some Shinhan's! Thank you!

      I love Schmincke but their greens are a letdown for me …except for Viridian who is the most beautiful versión out there and the Cobalts …i forgot Chromium Oxide Green , beautiful

    I have several that I like and it can depend on the day, really. I was sad to hear that PG8 is fugitive because it is one of my favorite greens. I use it anyway. I figure if any of my paintings make it to the Louvre, they'll keep the lights low, ha. I plan to eventually do my own lightfast testing, by putting swatches where I typically put paintings (inner walls). With the more expensive paints, I expect lightfastness or I avoid. Cheaper ones (Rosa) I don't care.

    • @MinaDoesArtStuff
      @MinaDoesArtStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will be honest I've not had any fading issues with PG8 personally but there again I don't put my paintings in direct sunlight so I think its just one of those be aware of the possibility type situations

  • @clairevalentine9220
    @clairevalentine9220 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Pg8 is unfortunately fugitive according to experiments on handprint website. Apart from that the versions of "classic" sap green you like are just what I like as well.

    • @MinaDoesArtStuff
      @MinaDoesArtStuff  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve not noticed any issues with pg8 where I am but of course it’s good to be aware of its fugitive nature

    PG8 is not light fast although it is a beautiful green. I wish they would formulate this color in a light fast formula. ☹️

    • @MinaDoesArtStuff
      @MinaDoesArtStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've done my own lightfastness testing on my PG8 paints and i've not noticed any issues with it. but also I am not likely to hang my paintings in direct light either.
