Since you went with a 4 ohm speaker, you should add a second one to get more power delivery. You're only using 37.5% of the power. If you add a second 4 ohm speaker, you'd go down to 2 ohms and get 75% of the original speaker's power, and you could separate them a bit for better distributed sound.
Well, I don't have enough space for a second subwoofer but I'm thinking of getting a dual voice coil sub in the near future, I could not find a 3ohm DVC subwoofer for my budget, but there is a Pioneer 4ohm DVC sub that can be wired down to 2ohm, should be good. But its quite surprising even with 37.5% power, this new sub is louder and has more punch than the original sub of this system.
I opened up the old subwoofer (the part where the input connector is located) looks like the wires are intact! I guess the problem might be in the coils? I'm too lazy to open the rest of the box up since there are no screws and ill have to pry the wood open.
The higher impediance gives the tighter punchier bass but you need an amp to push through it. If your original sub was 1.5 ohm and your new one is 4 then its 37.5% of the rated output which means 105 watts max is going to the sony sub. The higher quality sub combined with a sealed box gives good bass at all frequencies which your previous ported box did not because it was tuned to a certain frequency. In other words, even though it was lower watts, it's better overall because of its superior configuration. Im going to do this with a powerbass 10 inch sub wired to 2, 4, or 8 ohm with a set of polk 6x9 coaxial speakers at 4 ohms each, but I need to find an amp to power the setup....
You are right! and even though the old sub was 1.5ohm because of the box design the bass used to overwhelm the mids and the highs, and there was no 'punch' to the sound I never enjoyed it, on the other than this car sub makes the home theatre sound a LOT better, especially in movies. I am thinking of getting another one of these exact sub and wire that up in parallel so that impedance becomes 2ohm, can get a little more out of this amp, always wanted to hear a dual sub-HTS setup.
@@TechGuyCharlie You definitely could but it would change it a little. You would gain some power. Sound follows an interesting law where 4x the power is 2x precieved volume increase so it wouldn't be double the precieved bass with 2 subs and it would be a bit less tight almost like sloppy bass but it might not be noticeable. Personally I would get a 4 ohm dual voice coil sub and wire it in parallel. Id also put some polyfill in the enclosure and use the same box to save a little space. Or find a dual 3 ohm sub wired in parallel to exactly match the impedance, that will definitely rattle those windows.
Who cares how much power it can handle and what impedance it has, if you only need 10W to drive it at 90dB anyway? I bet this sub has at least a 85db efficiency, so no need to worry about power.

Nothing wrong with using car subs in home theater setup only watch your impedance ohms. I've used 2 Kicker compVR 15" subs 4 ohm each 500wrms in 5.7cu.ft. ported enclosures tuned to 18hz powered by a Kenwood Basic M2 450wrms minimum at 4ohms paired with a modified Sansui C-1000 preamp. My theater room was 750sq.ft. and subs got down to a clean 20-27hz with ease not clipping. If your going to use a car subs in home it's best to have some sort of low pass filter x-over when used with full range amplifiers or buy a subwoofer plate amp with at least 5-10% more power out than the subs rated RMS power for headroom and less clipping distortion. Most of the time power doesn't kill speakers but distortion does. Reason I used car subs is power handling and frequency response at a lower cost than most designed for home audio raw drivers.

Nice video👍🏻. old sony home theater were so powerful than now a days home theater. Newer all the model's are running 3 and 6ohm. 😒. which is not as powerful than the previous models. dissappointment. by the way Good system
Thank you bro and that's true, I wanted to upgrade to the new Bluray model but the most 'affordable' one has the amplifier and all the other hardware like the Bluetooth and USB built into the subwoofer box 😕 and the RMS rating is also lower than this. So I thought its best to keep my old home theatre and buy a car sub for this.
Yeah bro.. I did not find any older sony home theater such dav dz390k or dav dz760.. so i bought sony Bdv-E6100. it's sound good but not powerful as the older model..i also bought a car subs pioneer tsw309d4 which run at 8ohm! bcz the sub port is runnig at 6ohm. Which deliver less power. i'm Fully fed up bro.I give a message to Sony that we dont need extra features newer ht model ,,we need Performance first like older model has...
Aussie Ninja Yeah... They rated bdv e6100 and N9200 1000 watts and 1200watss Rms ?! Really Sony? They lyng about the wattege. If they have 1000watts rms then why they dont loud or sound like as other 500watts sound system?! they r literally cheating in watts and they r doing this for selling thts it.. Sony new sytem has more function but lower sound power which is a huge frustation bcz its costly too
@@thebasskidzz777 I think the RMS rating is correct these are Class D amplifiers, they can be small and yet pack a punch. PMPO rating is lies though and I don't think they can lie that much when it comes to RMS, otherwise people will sue them for misleading. Its the size of the speakers that matters, I am guessing if you pair the amp with better quality aftermarket speakers with properly sized boxes then it will sound louder and even better, just like what we saw in this video with the subwoofer.
Yup, I usually play this at quite a high volume. : D But I looked it up and its a common problem with these Sony home theatre subs, they tend to stop working after a while.
@@TechGuyCharlie kinda, i own one of these and its a 8'' and has definitely been in use over 6-8 years now, and has has had a lot more than 300 watts rms, 800 peak, it works fine and still is in use, even tho have a lot more better subs and bigger ones, i still love this one cause its rock solid.
You only risk damaging the amp when the speaker ohms are too low , wont hurt the speaker... but the more ohms the speaker the less power the amp will push to it down to a certain wattage then it levels out
Bro what is the model of the Sony music system that you are using, does it hook up to pc with AUX? Also I am looking for a powerful 2.1 system for my pc, but most of them don't have a good RMS output/Subwoofer, can you recommend some, My budget s around 15000 Inr. Thanks!
I've the sony dav-tz140. 300w amp, 500w spl 8" car sub it has a box shape enclosure with a decent size bass port and the woofer is behind some thick pvc glass and then I've two floor standing speaker each have 2 speakers that both sound different and a tweeter , those are rated at about 480rms. So in conclusion I've a car sub, 9 speakers and 2 tweeters and also some green led strips that are connected to the subwoofer that light up once the amp is pushing 12v or more

Not really, I played this setup at maximum volume for over an hour nothing happened, Class D amplifiers are awesome! they stay stone cold even when driven at such high volumes. But if you run a speaker with lower ohm than amplifier then you will damage the amp. But if the speaker is of higher ohm value and the amp is lower than it will be fine.
You only risk damaging the amp when the speaker ohms are too low , wont hurt the speaker... but the more ohms the speaker the less power the amp will push to it down to a certain wattage then it levels out...people run from 0.5 ohms to 8 and 16 ohms all the time , normally the wattage drop levels out at 4 or 8 ohms
If m not wrong lesser the ohm more power it uses. So using 4ohm speaker where 1.5ohm was being is gonna be piece of cake for the amp! Correct me if m wrong
I don't know bro, just don't end up damaging your amplifier! some LG and Samsung home theatre amps I have seen are rated at 6-8ohms, car subs are generally 4ohm, if you connect a subwoofer rated at a lower impedance than your amp, then you risk damaging your amplifier. Also, the wattage difference should not be much, else your home theatre amp will not be able to drive the sub.
Great video. If I was you, I would place the sub on the floor instead of a table. I’ve listened your video with high end headphones and I surely can hear that the Sony Xplod subwoofer sounds good and hit very low notes. I am using a Mordaunt Short active subwoofer in my set up at the moment but I do have a spare sub, a Sony passive home theater subwoofer which is bigger than the one in your video and is also rated at 4 ohms. It weighs approximately 50 to 60 lbs (20-25 kg) I want to use it as a second sub with an external amplifier. My receiver has the functionality to hook up an extra amplifier. Do yo have some advice/tips how to hook it up? It’s rated at 140 watt RMS at 8 ohms and 280 watt RMS at 4 ohms. If you need more specs to help me out, let me know. Thanks in advance and a great 2019 my friend! Best, Emiel.
Hey emiel. I've done a lot of home stereo stuff using all kinda of equipment to get create sound as cheap as possible. Do you have any social media we can contact each other with, I'll be glad to share my knowledge or at least try to help someone else out.
at my old house i had 2 big agm batteries and a 2k rms skar amp on 2 rockford fosgate 10s and it was brutal. i moved and my new room is right next to the kitchen so it knocks stuff off the shelves so i had to take it out
"TIP" One way to check if your old sub is dead is check it with a multimeter if the OMS are lower than what is rated or too high then rated or even nothing then is gone
Open windows slightly.. I kept xplode 300rms sub in my home with car amp and hooked in my yamaha av receiver.. 😊 My doubt is when u connect high impedence speaker to a low impedance amplifier then output power will reduce to half.. As it is inversely proportional. Low impedance speaker in high impedance amp definitely blow the amp
Dude just add another subwoofer in parallel to the first one..... you will then have 2 Ohms total Also you may find better/stronger main speakers on the Internet..... search for the highest dB rating for the main speakers Each time a speaker is in parallel with another matching the same specifications, the dB rating/sensitivity rises vastly Sony electronics have always used underpowered speakers from the very beginning in these exact home theater units
Seem good choice , but I think it 8in with ported enclosur while new one is 12in with sealed one. compared both of them will not fair, well 12in need more power to push it with sealed box. Put it into ported enclosure else need to upgrade amp as well. 💗💗
Need a bigger subwoofer box and it needs to be ported to really be effective I myself have done this many time with cheap Walmart subs in chambered box's
I agree! the box is too small and yeah it is not ported either. But my problem is SPACE!! I could easily get a bigger ported box but then the thing would take up so much space. Maybe sometime in the future. :D
ported or not that really depends on the design of the box. Generally a ported box will need to be larger box size but volume is way higher versus a sealed box. Btw have you tested how it performs on movies?
@ducttaperulestheworl Yeah! I did, sound better than the stock sub that came with the amp, the bass hits harder and is more accurate and overall there is less reverberation.
I would have done that bro! But the song is copyrighted and will cause a claim on my video 😌 By the way, I've played it, let me try and explain. It sounds great for a sealed box subwoofer however A large volume ported box would be the best for songs like 'bass I love you'. This sub box is really tuned for genres like Rock, Pop, EDM, house, and Classics, the bass does not reverberate much but it hits really hard and the bass is clear and won't drown the vocals. Deep house at high volume sounds AMAZING on this.
Gonna try this today! if I can hide the actual driver side that would be great because everyone gets so curious seeing such a big sub sitting in the living room lol.
i used different type of subwoofers .if u want good quality ,pioneer champion (dual coil )is the best subwoofer . it is expensive from jbl and sony ,but result is better than others.
Hmm you know, a ton of people have suggested a ported box! Instead of making holes in this box I might sell this and buy one of those subs that come with a ported box.

True new Sony hts are not as good as old ones and same with their hifi stereos
U still running this
Maybe you blew it
Yup, I usually play this at quite a high volume.
Thanks!
Average amp for this subwoofer?
I've the sony dav-tz140. 300w amp, 500w spl 8" car sub it has a box shape enclosure with a decent size bass port and the woofer is behind some thick pvc glass and then I've two floor standing speaker each have 2 speakers that both sound different and a tweeter , those are rated at about 480rms. So in conclusion I've a car sub, 9 speakers and 2 tweeters and also some green led strips that are connected to the subwoofer that light up once the amp is pushing 12v or more
I have the exact same home sub, just take a flathead screwdriver between the plastic and wood and it should pop right of
You shouldn't lie to people

@@Audiodote thanks for the assist
how can you run a 4 ohm speaker on a supply of 1.5 ohm? :3 you can damage your speaker or amplifier when playing too loud.
Moiz Mushtaq people use 1 ohm stable amps and run 1, 2, and 4 ohms sometimes even .5 ohms if you’re risky
You only risk damaging the amp when the speaker ohms are too low , wont hurt the speaker... but the more ohms the speaker the less power the amp will push to it down to a certain wattage then it levels out...people run from 0.5 ohms to 8 and 16 ohms all the time , normally the wattage drop levels out at 4 or 8 ohms
depends on the type of amplifier
If m not wrong lesser the ohm more power it uses. So using 4ohm speaker where 1.5ohm was being is gonna be piece of cake for the amp! Correct me if m wrong
Bro is it better than f&d f6000 ?
My subwoofer is working of LG home theatre I have a extra car woofer can I try connecting both !!!
@@TechGuyCharlie okay !!
Bhai kaha sy mely ga ye
How did you get power to the car sub?
_Hunter.110 Gaming from the amp
awesome video my friend. beautiful house by the way!!!
Can home theatre be connected to car subwoofer with aux splitter ?
No
Very deep bass Like!
Nexus Customs Hi, I would like it to have contact via social media. Search on Facebook for Emiel Bakhuis. See you soon!
Have you used amplifier for new woffer?
Tell me Name of song
Bro can connect to my 500w sony dvd home theatre ?
I also have that home theater system, and How to connect this with pc
Song title?
at my old house i had 2 big agm batteries and a 2k rms skar amp on 2 rockford fosgate 10s and it was brutal. i moved and my new room is right next to the kitchen so it knocks stuff off the shelves so i had to take it out
"TIP" One way to check if your old sub is dead is check it with a multimeter if the OMS are lower than what is rated or too high then rated or even nothing then is gone
you know you can wire it to like 4ohm on that amp HT systems usually can play 4ohm loads

Which system you r using??
are you*
Bro song name plz..
On & on
Cartoon
He literally tells u the name like 15 seconds before he plays it. Why can't u watch the video all the way bro
Open windows slightly.. I kept xplode 300rms sub in my home with car amp and hooked in my yamaha av receiver.. 😊
My doubt is when u connect high impedence speaker to a low impedance amplifier then output power will reduce to half.. As it is inversely proportional. Low impedance speaker in high impedance amp definitely blow the amp
IIRC solid state amps can go equal or higher impedance, where as tube amps can go equal or lower impedance.
Which is the Sony amplifier or DVD player plzz give me the model name and number ?
sony dv-585k
Dude just add another subwoofer in parallel to the first one..... you will then have 2 Ohms total
Also you may find better/stronger main speakers on the Internet..... search for the highest dB rating for the main speakers
Each time a speaker is in parallel with another matching the same specifications, the dB rating/sensitivity rises vastly
Sony electronics have always used underpowered speakers from the very beginning in these exact home theater units
Seem good choice , but I think it 8in with ported enclosur while new one is 12in with sealed one. compared both of them will not fair, well 12in need more power to push it with sealed box. Put it into ported enclosure else need to upgrade amp as well. 💗💗
Price kya a vir is da
I dont have a dvd player, how to do with 12 volt amplifier ?
Well, I made a video about it here:

@@TechGuyCharlie it's crazy that a subwoofer can make music sound so much better.
You'd need a PSU(power supply unit) from a computer and use it to power car amp. I have done this for years and works fine.
My amplifier is gone... Which do you recommend for Philips speakers?? 5.1
Nice fix bud.
Great video
Bro try I love you too bass in this subwoofer and make video 😊
I would have done that bro! But the song is copyrighted and will cause a claim on my video 😌
By the way, I've played it, let me try and explain. Deep house at high volume sounds AMAZING on this.
i use an 8 inch car sub for my home theater set up, makes my heart skip beats
Can I use this with Samsung HW K20 ??
Let me know brother
No
Good morning bro

Very useful video
nice job man you have one more writing
Love the bass
Awesome this video
You should put it down on the floor and not on a glass table...you will have a deeper bass
I have a sony speaker like that sitting my closet I cleaned it and i dont know what to do with it
Hey buddy nice replacement, if you aim you sub at the wall you will get better bass. It will have a bandpass effect, check it out (:
Gonna try this today! if I can hide the actual driver side that would be great because everyone gets so curious seeing such a big sub sitting in the living room lol.
Very useful
Nice
i used different type of subwoofers .if u want good quality ,pioneer champion (dual coil )is the best subwoofer . it is expensive from jbl and sony ,but result is better than others.
I have a same sony subwoofer
i think the old sub is a passive sub
If u want more bass u could put a couple 2 inch ports
Hmm you know, a ton of people have suggested a ported box! Instead of making holes in this box I might sell this and buy one of those subs that come with a ported box.
I would definitely keep the sub and build a box it probably would be cheaper and u could build it to ur own liking
Austin gorde that box is way too small to be ported
imepedence 1.5 ohm
What ever graite job. I was also happens like this problem.
lol at least its a better upgrade.
