AshtaNayika - Eight expressions of a woman’s soul through the songs of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore

She is the lover, the dreamer, the warrior. From love to strength, passion to grace, every woman is a universe of emotions and her journey eternal. Through the timeless language of dance, we celebrate her strength, her grace, her resilience and her journey. These emotions, though rooted in the context of a lover’s separation and union, are universal. They reflect the multifaceted feelings we all experience as human beings-be it joy, sorrow, yearning, or fulfilment.
Sangita Kulshrestha Proudly presents Ashthanayika - Eight expressions of a woman’s soul through the songs of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. This annual Production involves 65 dancers of Sangita Kulshrestha's Nrityanjali and was performed as part of Balaka Durgotsav 2024 in the month of Oct 24 at Noida Sector 61.
Each Nayika, a reflection of the soul, show us that love is not a single experience, but a myriad of emotions that bind us together-joy and sorrow, hope and despair, passion and patience, fulfillment and longing."
"In the Vasakasajja, we see the beauty of anticipation, where love blooms like a flower in wait. In Virahotkanthita, we feel the pang of separation, a reminder of the soul’s yearning. Swadhinabhartruka baths us in the warmth of devotion, a union where hearts beat as one, while Kalahantarita reminds us that even in anger, love seeks resolution."
"Through Khandita’s betrayal, we are shown that even the most wounded heart can endure. Vipralabdha shows us disappointment, but also the strength to move forward. Proshitabhartruka’s patience reveals the silent strength of those who love from afar, and finally, Abhisarika, bold and fearless, shows us the courage to pursue love, even against the odds."
