- I am opening a hobby box of 1997-98 Topps Chrome NBA Basketball for our next throwback collectible sports trading card pack unboxing/box break! Topps Chrome is an iconic set in sports cards, and 97/98 was one of the first ever releases! These 27 year-old boxes currently resell in the $1,000 range. Every 24-pack box contains several Refractors and inserts. These boxes come with chances at pulling rookie cards of NBA legend Tim Duncan (also Tracy McGrady), rare refractors of NBA legends/superstars (Michael Jordan & Kobe Bryant), various wild classic 1990s inserts from several sets (Destiny, Season's Best, Shooting Stars, Power Core, Key Master, Hotshots, Pressure Points, Front Court Finesse, Topps 40), the Chicago Bulls Championship Tribute Checklist, and more! While I would love a Jordan or Kobe since they aren't in packs anymore, my top goal is to pull a Tim Duncan Refractor Rookie! Try rubbing isopropyl alcohol on them with a soft cloth. The oxidation causes the greening
Love these 90s openings. These cards are all players I remember from when I could watch basketball regularly.
Sometimes gently flexing the cards back and forth in the pack before opening can help with the sticking. Not always but it can help. Awesome video!
I opened about 3 retail boxes worth back then… I never got a Duncan true rookie but I got a destiny refractor. Love this set

Putting bricked cards in the freezer 1st I believe is the best way to seperate them with minimal paper loss.

Because any box from 1996-97 is insanely expensive you should do 1998-99 topps chrome and chase Dirk, Vince, Kobe and Jordan. (But if you can get your hands on anything from 1996-97, do it!)
Do fleer flair from dirks year.

Thanks for the old rip. Wish they weren’t so green or stuck together. Get some more Jordan stuff. Old fleer or upper deck could have Jordan. Fleer had great insert designs. Upper deck had Jordan stuff in bulls and Washington uniforms until 2009-2010 season. Always fun to open it all.

I've opened 25 boxes of Topps Chrome Basketball back in 1997. I finally competed the entire 220 card base set, complete 220 refractor card set, Destiny base and refractor set, Topps 40 base and refractor set and Seasons Best base and refractor set.
I got 6 of those Kobe rookies and the chrome one too

This is definitely something cool I'd like to see more of. Kobe rookie chase? Kg, Vince, McGrady, and ofc MJ. Along w/ many other great late 80's to basically the early 2000's would be gun. LeBron, Wade, Carmelo, Bosh rc chase would be cool too.

this era is where i learned about collecting cards...my mom was working at a convinience store when i was young. mom said she was collecting nba cards cuz the store was selling topps and no one was buying so the owner sold them on my mom for a low price since then my mom collects em.
I've got a boatload of 90s cards. Pulled Penny and a Webber 98 UD Diamond Dimensions Die cut of each. Hand numbered. They were crazy expensive awhile back. Who knows now.

For the prices back then,thst would be considered a hot box from now days,I beleive boxes were 80 to 100 back when I seen them but I was a teenager so I didn't have the money,but nothing beats the 90s inserts,metal and some high end sets are sweet,spx in 90s is sweet to

I wish Topps would come out with a corrected set for this and for 1996-97 without the Hulking
You can try ordering a card care kit from kurts card care. It comes with something for surfaces.
I never did open one of these packs before. I did recently open a box of 1996-97 Topps Basketball. I ended up with 2 Kobes, 3 Iverson and 2 Nash RC's
90s inserts will never be beat. I have many and they are my favorite stuff

The good thing about this product is that bricking doesn’t matter and all the dirt/gunk comes off with a micro fibre quite easily.
Wow, the color loss is really incredible. Makes you wonder what modern chrome/prizm will be like in 20 years.

I pulled a Kobe refractor in my box last year- man you got unlucky all sticking and greening. My box was good, all came out like butter.

Very nostalgic and you've broadened you're rip videos with a multitude of old and new products. You missed out on Mcgrady and Duncan rookies but overall it was a solid box. I'd say 6/10

Duplicates were crazy common back in the day... I don't think a lot of people (at least not us kids) were buying many boxes back in the 80s/90s... it was usually random packs from the cars shops

That box is amazing I just opened some 1991 upper deck cards and like you said they are super thin but none the less very cool rip I liked it
