  • Learn how NVIDIA is applying DLSS 3: www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/...
    Bryan Catanzaro of the NVIDIA Applied Deep Learning Research team talks through NVIDIA DLSS 3 - the latest breakthrough in AI-powered graphics that multiplies performance for games and apps. Learn more about the three unique pieces of technology that make up DLSS 3: Optical Multi Frame Generation (all-new), Super Resolution, and NVIDIA Reflex.
    DLSS 3 is backwards compatible with DLSS 2, and over 35 games and applications are already integrating the technology, with the first launching in October 2022.

      Technically Frame Generation (the main thing headlining DLSS 3.0's featureset aside Super Resolution and Reflex which would be accessible on older cards still), can run on RTX 3000/Ampere still based on what we can tell from the tech documents on Lovelace so far.
      The only major difference between the Optical Flow Accelerator(s) in the TCs in Lovelace and it's Ampere counterpart is just speed, they have the same featureset aside.
      So theoretically a powerful enough Ampere GPU should be able to run DLSS-3's full featureset (I doubt NV would design DLSS 3.0 in a way it couldn't run on say an RTX 4050 so at that level, most Ampere GPUs should be able to run it, at least RTX 3080+, if not 3070+)

    • @LucasHalastra

    • @Alovon
      @Alovon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@big_matt3496 Turing, yes, it's 1/4 res due to the limitations of the OFA that generation, not to mention the speed of the Tensor cores being far slower than Ampere.
      Ampere however should be able to run it as the OFAs can generate full-res results, so unless NVIDIA did the dumb move of designing Frame Generation to work for only the 4080-12GB and up because the Tensor Cores in the 3080+ should be able to run Frame Generation via brute force if Frame Gen is supposedly to run on a RTX 4050 (which would be less cores than the 3050 because RTX 3080-12GB is already under the 3080's core counts).

    First, I salute the DLSS team for delivering such excellent technology and engineering. I want to point out that the optical flow approach may add some latency to the system. if we say that the two traditionally rendered frames are A and B, and X is the one getting generated, the B frame won't show up until the X gets computed and then displayed on the screen. I believe that the DLSS 3 would be a fantastic choice in the slow games "30 ~ 100 fps" however, it will create a pseudo-rapid reflex on the fast competitive games, you would have the smoothness but not the relative responsiveness that should come with it.

    • @GodKitty677
      @GodKitty677 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You most likely need a high fps at the start for DLSS 3 to work well. It renders two frames, the frame inbetween is the DLSS 3 frame. This is why people are stating input latency must increase. This is because FPS is not really increasing. In games like CS:GO latency would go down with FPS increases but this is not the case with DLSS 3. You don't want DLSS 3 as a feature at all. DLSS 2 I would say yes. DLSS 3 is not a reason for me to upgrade my RTX 3080 TI but a massive PR win for NVidia if DLSS 3 worked on RTX 3000 series cards and increased performance.

      That isn't likely to happen in quite a while. Because as soon as extra performance exist, game development will just use it.
      I mean Path tracing exist. Even these 4090 can barely do 20 fps using it for Portal "natively". So, you can imagine it would take several generations for that to be possible natively at 120fps.

      Not sure about VR. The added latency from the frame interpolation contributes to motion sickness.
      When you do frame doubling, you both halve the input frequency and add one frame of delay. This means that you're alternating between 1 and 2 frames of added latency, for an average of 1.5, i.e. 16.7ms at 90hz.
      Realistically, I don't think it makes much sense below 120hz (unless you're ok with a latency worse than 50hz native), but you'd actually need roughly 240hz to match the latency of 90hz native.

    🤔At this time they have evolved their DLSS technology with the DLSS 3 version, but I would like them not to focus only on existing technologies. As a suggestion they could design new technologies based on the NVIDIA GameWorks Tools, in which were HairWorks, VXAO, FleX, PhysX, VisualFX, VXGI, Turf Effects, MFAA and TXXA. They could improve them with artificial intelligence or design new similar tools to add them to AAA games as additional options as NVIDIA GameWorks used to do before, which brought out a menu with the additional options of NVIDIA which looked very cool.

    • @BlackVirtue
      @BlackVirtue ปีที่แล้ว

      DLSS 3 is actually a gimmicky technology that I won't use most likely. It draws fake frames, as a result you get increased amount of FPS, but also increased amount of input delay. You can decrease somewhat the delay by using another NVIDIA gimmick such as "NVIDIA reflex", but how good will that be for any action game where you have to look around and react somewhat fast - who knows.

    • @lorenzogonzalez4300
      @lorenzogonzalez4300 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlackVirtue 🤔Well, that will depend on how each game developer implements it... Because in the games that DLSS 3 was presented, such as Spider-Man Remastered, where you move at high speed through the buildings of New York, you don't see any kind of delay in the image on the screen and this is a fairly demanding AAA game at the hardware level.

    • @Stef3m
      @Stef3m ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RaufZero Lol, you completely misunderstood, it's not 30ms of added latency, it's the measurement of whole human machine interaction loop: press button, CPU receive information and compute coordinate, send data to GPU, GPU render the frame (that alone eat 16ms at 60fps) and finally the image have to be painted on the screen.
