- A Guide to… GRASS YIELDS! What makes a DIFFERENCE? (TEST). Farming Simulator 19, Assistance! After receiving loads of requests and comments on the ‘Best crop for silage’ video, I decided to have a look at the grass options. Some I thought I knew, some I wasn’t sure. Let’s see, with me… MrSealyp.
So 100% fertilization adds almost an entire additional standard bale of grass for each strip of that length. That's... quite the difference!
Is that the jist of the video here? Lol just interested in the test results...hard to sit through the actual tests...only so many minutes in a day, so many variables to this game to test =P
My play through on Baltic Sea has lead to an all grass farming experience for silage, so I decided to go back to these videos - and I’m glad I did! No need to plow and lime, I’ll plow my field edges and seed, then just fertilise to 100%! Thank you kind sir! 🙏🏻
Found a lot of mixed answers online, thanks a bunch for doing a thorough test and finally setting this straight! :)
Great clip MrSp.
I've got a dairy farm on Meadowgrove with quite a few grass fields. I definitely noticed difference after I made them into fields with plow (besides benefit of being able to use workers)
I sometimes forego 2nd fertilisation stage to save time/money/wages.
Interesting point about Ploughing up the map areas 👍, was surprised adding the lime, didn’t improve it, just remember when fertilising use the scarifier or free digestate from the BGA, that way all it costs is your running costs.
Thank you so much! You got a new sub. I like the style how you speak, it's easy to understant what you say. Because i am only 11 yo and i am from Finland. Language is sooo different here. Sry for bad engish.
Your English is really good! Keep up the great work.
@@erictheberry Thank you! Your comment really inspires me to study even harder. Thanks.
@@guandale127 I bet you will speak fluent english at some point! good luck!
Hi i am from germany! We are so international here😂
J.Koutonen My Summer car!!! It taught me Finnish swearing perkele!
Thanks for this video! I’ve often wondered if plowing made a difference. I always assumed it did and therefore I wasted a lot of time plowing... awesome work thank you!
Very helpful. I've found if you mow and let it regrow then collect. You can collect 2 lots of grass in one go.
You can do it 3, 4 even 5 times, depends on how you collect it.
Except grass rots over time so you will lose some yield.
@@patspears2226 only if you're playing with seasons on. There was no mention of this at all, so I assume they're not.
Thanks mate, a very good test, I tend to plough and lime grass fields purely because when viewing the in game map at field states, I'm only ever looking at my crop fields from there on. Thanks again for the hard work you put in mate.
You know you can make it where to certain field states don't show up right?
@@ryanp6999 absolutely thanks but, I do every step myself as I prefer it that way.
Quite a useful video even for FS19 experts. I am glad someone took the time to evaluate. Point of interest from an actual farmer, rarely do you EVER lime or equivalent an type of grass or hay field. These type of actions are done during crop rotation periods ONLY and after either heavy cultivation, subsoiling, harrow or plow,
I liked the video, however, the entire field was already plowed.
You can see this in the menu screen you pulled up at the end of the video.
Kristoffer Andre Aarsheim I agree. This needs to be retested with actual unplowed field grass. The only way to achieve that is to plant and harvest corn or sugarbeet or potato, something that requires plowing after and then planting grass.
and it wasn’t fully fertialize
I play on ps4 and PC. You are by far my favorite utuber for FS games. Great work.
Awesome test info for all thanks for the time and work and sharing it with us
i did notice @MrSealyP that your chaff run didnt actually chaff, it kept it as grass.
Great video, always put a lot of work into these tests. One thing I think is worth testing though is the difference between mowing then raking, and using the Krone or Novacat Crossflow which mows and swaths at the same time. I'm certain I got a lower yield using the Novacat Crossflow, than I did mowing then raking.
Has my vote for a follow up video. Might as well add in there how much can you rake it over and over before the yield reduces (the in game info just states a loss if over raked).
That's ridiculous the scripting is in the fields not in the machine's so it doesn't matter which mower is used the field state is the determination.
I remember back in FS2013 the Kidd forage harvester mod would give insane yields because it had something like a 3-fold increase in yield programmed into the harvester itself for some reason.
@@4evryoung230 you may be right, but I shifted production from raking then square bailing + wrap, to Novcat Crossflow + round auto-baling and noticed a substantial reduction in bale count. 🤔
@@pmyraje that may be the case but all the machine's now i haven't seen anything in them that would increase the yields but I'll look at the mods to double check but for the moment it's not in base machinery
Excellent scientific approach - many thanks, you've answered a lot of the questions I had. Loving your videos, keep it up sir.
another great video thanks for the time you put into these.
all of those that can only criticize, complain, and insult SealyP ....... I don't see you doing any of these videos...... just saying
Another brilliant test - thanks. The results should actually not be surprising, but hammering it out in detail always helps. Fertilizing should always give +15% per spray or spread and it does. The conclusion is crystal clear and so is your message. A superb test!
Thanks MrSP. I was wondering about this and didn't find a satisfactory answer. I was fertilizing "map" grass and getting nowhere. Great info.
Nice vid MrSealyp, missing a field grass with nothing at all soo we could compare the yield with map grass. Also all field seems to have been plowed, no info saying "Needs plowing" on any strip.
Interesting test I don't plow grass fields and I tried lime once .Great vid!!Thanks.
Hey have you ever thought about testing the value of log lengths? Do you get paid more for longer or is their a limit to that? Take a single tree and chop it up into 1m lengths and see the value and then same tree and 2m and so on
Was just thinking about this yelled test!!!! 😃OMG I always plough and lime and fert ALL of my fields!!! Thanks..... I’ve wasted hours of my time😭
Thanks for taking the time, all we need to know now is if this is by design or just a bug that they never got around to fixing.
Wow. Now that is a real objective test. Thank you for the info. Onlu one thing, the advantage of having map grass is, that you can let workers plow your fields, because if you had field grass he would have jusr ploughed through.
BRILL upload MrP don't really mess with grass usually but have always wondered how best to get the most out of it with plowing, lime and fertilizer n wether it would make a worthwhile difference so I applaud you for doing this today, Keep it up and have a Nice Day 👍
Thanks for all these help videos. Answers a lot of questions 👌🏻
Thanks SealyP for the hard work you put in. Will save me time and money.
Thank you very much for the time you take to do these test. This is exactly why so many of us SealyPEEP say and believe you are the BEST FARMING SIMULATOR TH-camR!!!
Thanks for going through the trouble to set this all up! Very informative video! 😎👍
Thank you for doing this, I love using grass for silage great source of easy income. I always wondered if there was a significant difference. Good idea with plowing and seeding grass!
I really enjoy all your videos and the effort you put in
Sealyp’s Ariscience with another informative lesson.
After all the views below, nothing more to add, just awesome mate!!!
Great test video but when you were chaffing the grass, it registered as grass in the trailer instead of chaff. Also I would imagine that seasons would make a difference to the grass yield.
Plowing didn't affect the field because the field didn't need to be plowed so none of the grass was getting the yield penalty for not plowing. You even show at 15:10 that the field doesn't need plowing. You should either re-do the plowing test or make a pinned comment informing people of this error. If it is saying that it needs plowing it WILL affect your grass yield. Plow it and plant grass. Shouldn't be an issue unless you are converting an arable field to grass though as plowing is only required after corn, potatoes, sugar beets, and sugar cane.
I’ve been waiting for this vid. Thanks for posting MSp. Cheers.
Awesome... love your testing videos.
Thanks
A very good video, thanks for the effort and time in doing these assistance videos from now on I will only fertiliser my grass
dear MrSealyp, I believe that the ploughing has to do with the field state. The fields that you said haven't been ploughed didn't say that they still needed it yet. This means that the field state didn't change.
Thus strip 3 would yield about the same as the first 2 strips, if it had been taking the plow reduction (-15%).
Your thorough tests are pure gold. Thank you for your time!
P.s. you should have made the red harvester actually chaff/cut the grass. Apparently it just collected the previously cut, dead grass, so to speak.
Strip 3 didn't say it needed plowed. If it was taking a plow reduction too (15%), then it would be about equal to map grass.
awesome test with good comparable results....thank you for taking the time :))
Sir, what about a video testing the difference in yield using a mower + baler w/wrapping versus mower + collection + silage bunker fermentation?
Great video Mr P. Really appreciate the follow up! It definitely both confirmed and surprised.
Thanks so much to you commitment to scientific testing. Has it ever been determined if there is a difference between yellow growth and orange growth?
That’s why I always cut on first ready stage then it’s ready again Sooner
Thanks another useful test! Do you think the outcome would be the same for Seasons?
Great video. I've been wondering about this very question for a while now. I think I'll still plow and lime my grass fields just to get rid on the status on the mini map so I can see the fertilizer state more easily. In previous FS games you never had lime/plow indicators on grass fields that I recall. They really should have a "grass planted" flag to turn off those features on fields if they are not needed.
There used to be a NPK fertilizer state mod that required you to balance you fertilizer states on grass fields. It would be nice if a FS19 mod like Seasons would incorporate this feature.
When you get seasons on PS4 please do another grass test video to see how the new grass/hay making system changes things.
Thanks Mr SerlyP for taken the time to test this. Love the effort you got to test things like this out.
You lose crop using a forager due to systems (vacuums and blowers) it goes through after being chopped by the knives. You see a lot of green dust off the forager as well as the loss of crop from the spout. The wagon lifts and chops straight into storage - collecting more crop.
its only flying away if its dry. it shouldnt fly away while chopping otherwise the fermentation is going to be bad
Thanks for your hard work mr sealy p that’s another point proved keep the videos coming
When do you harvest grass? In the first harvest state or second? I have seen a video in which it is recommended to wait for the second harvest state. What do you think?
Another great video really appreciate your hard. Have you done a similar test with crops in FS19 to see if lime or plow have a affect on yields. Not sure if you have already done this or I’m thinking of one of your FS17 videos. Again thanks for the great video. 😎🇦🇺.
Awesome and was just about to lime another grass field!! Won’t bother then 😎👍
I think there is a problem with strip 4 and 5 or maybe it is just poorly explained. When u walked over strip 4 it never said it needed plowing so the penalty of not having it plowed wasent taking any effect as it dident need it before the test. This can also be seen when u showed the fert layers at the end of the video. There was no red stripes on the field so strip 4 dident have the need plow stat penalty on it. So strip 4 and 5 is in the same situation and becouse of that gives the same yield. Even as u plow strip 5 becouse strip 4 dosent say it need plowing there yield was the same. By seeding grass u never need to plow the field unless it needs plowing before u seed it. The Lime however was a big suprise as i expected a diffrence in yield.
Thanks. Saves me a lot of work.
Exactly the type of videos I like. Usefull and well done MrSealyP
Such a great test! Will be plowing up my lawn and burning it with too much fert now! Hahaha
Thank you for this video great job. I'm doing cows on my videos and this helps allot.
Bravo MrSealyP!! I LOVE TEST VIDS!! And good info as usual! Thanks for the work you did on that. I'll stop wasting lime. hahahaha
thats really interesting. Especially as im doing a lot of silage at the minute.
We are spoiled with your videos. Much thanks to you sealyp.
There is a reason why I love to call those forage harvesters "big lawn mowers". :D
Great test video mrsealyP.. This reallly helps alot.. 👍🏼
If only the world was as fair, methodical and scientific as you perform your tests
Please keep doing these tests it the best
Great video, this is why you are one of the best farm sim youtubers. One question though, when you picked up the grass with the forage harvestor wasn't it still grass in wagon? In order for the forage harvestor to turn it to chaff you need the cutter header right?
Thanks for doing this as it’s interesting to see
That’s what I did on lawfolds the big grass feels on-the edge of the map took a bit but well worth it though
Excellent video MrSealyp, thanks for all your hard work. Cheers.
Very informative, I learned thing about grass I did not know :) Cool vid
extremely informative video, thank you MrSealyp
This is old, but you did not chaff that grass at all,, you just picked it up, hence its still grass".. To "transform" the item "grass" into "chaff" it must be the forage hatvester's header to do the cutting! To the game, that's not grass (the crop) anymore, thats 'grassWindrow'! Your BigM did the transformation, and that's it. Remember, this is not real life, this is a game, so different rules apply.
Another great field test! Thank you for your time and effort!
Thank you Mr. Sealyp. These tests are priceless for me
Very well done. Thank you Sir.
Hi Seen a lot of your videos. Thx for your effort. Certainly a very good test!! Greetings from Sweden
Thanks for all your hard work great help was the lime put on grass while it was long or after it was cut
Grass says ready to harvest but if you leave it it grows taller and is still ready to harvest. Is there a difference in in yield between the two?
Another well done test, very useful, I am not surprised with this test, but I would be shocked with the same results with any other normal crop,
The only other variable you did not test is your selection of the milling machine instead of a loading wagon, cant expect any change but would be nice to know for sure.
Good day 2 ya :o)
Best vids of FS yet.thanks.
This is great iinfo, I was about to start to do grass stuff for animals
Another interesting test, great video 👍
Very informative and great video thanks for this
Could you test the yield after fertilising with oilseed radish? It's supposed to give a 30% yield bonus over 25% from other fertilisers.
I know you only need to fertilize fields twice but would grass fields after been fertilized 3 times effect the yield because it doesn't make sense to have a visual reference for the 3rd level of fertilization if it makes no difference what so ever.
That's very helpful great video. 🚜
If you sell hay or grass do you get different amounts of money of it’s a bail or loose?
under season mod, the 100% fermented silage bale sold for very little money, like a grass bale. but if you sell silage in loose, the value is normal again. could this be a bug?
Milling machine is the best when collecting
I just wanna note tho if u play on seasons corn can only cut once but grass u can cut twice so grass pits out more silage a year than corn
MrSealyp, bringing us on video the kind of little tests that - let's be honest - everyone is too lazy to do by himself! :D
We were told dew everythin get Max !
I wonder if they were a bit off with everthin else too! I mean the other crops ? I would point out if your dew large area if u lose 2 liters every pass by time your done with a large field ur looking 50k to 100k loss of product! So small fields no biggie but large field better use a loading wagon! Thanks :)
The difference in yield is far more likely due to the contour of the field than any difference in the machinery, and even then it was negligible.
Ok before i watch This just my thought based on Real Life
Lime does make a differance cause of the PH of the soil
You get more liters with the loader cause its Not cut therefore Not as compresed but Same mass/weight overall
great video as always we know for sure now which way to go when cutting the grass BUT is there a difference with regards to seasons like when you should mow the grass and does the same thing as tested come in there like plowing lime and so on keep up the great work . S C UK
I'm curious if you have tested to see if letting a couple of days go between harvesting the grass increases a field's yield, like it would in real life. Since grass doesn't wither I'd be interested to see if it just how letting it grow for days works in game.
@@MrSealyp Ah yes that makes sense. Thanks for the reply!
Thank you MSP good to know unfortunately with my ocd i can't look at the map and see the field state and not do something about it. lol
Thanks for testing! Now I'm confident. =D
Awesome test,very helpful
I have one more test for you which one do you get a higher yield with alfalfa or field grass
