I don’t care what anyone says, The Sopranos is the #1 tv show of all time. I watch it once a year.
Amen
Sorry West Wing
@@barbarawalsh2875 That's one i've never heard. People usually stick to sopranos, the wire, got, breaking bad.
Thanks to the actors, not this guys crap writing.
@@LeMaqnifique You are only making yourself look like a fool so laugh it up.
I learned 2 things here about David Chase- 1) he never had the makings of a varsity cheerleader, 2) his show idea Ultimo was just ahead of its time as it was the same premise as The Boys.
Ultimo premise also sounds like The Incredibles (superheroes being sued for the fallout of their actions).
Yea definitely like the Boys right on
And moon rocks don’t pass through the digestive system.
came here to say this comment. way ahead of his time, clearly. that show obviously would have hit if social media was out but social media barely existed, or didnt in 97 when sopranos started to come together. man is a genius.
Seth: "David, it's such a pleasure to speak to you again."
David: "Yeah."
Yeah he’s a passive aggressive 🤡
@@redcomet0079 that wasn't passive aggressive. Looked like he was acknowledging that they've talked before.
@@vaahtobileet he has a well known reputation for being passive aggressive
@@redcomet0079 I think his demeanor is misunderstood by many.
@@vaahtobileet even his actors didn’t get along with him when they filmed The Sopranos
25 years later and it's a show that is still being talked about as a part of every day conversation. Incredible. The show was lightning in a bottle. Magic.
first two seasons are great; the rest is a fucking soap opera, which bastardizes the first two ...and those are the facts.
Yeah, I remember when the series was announced. A show about the modern-day mob on HBO? It can't miss.
great for two seasons...terrible/unnecessary for the rest @@robj2027
@@neilwiththereeldeel You probably need to look up the definition of a fact and that of an opinion.
wow you're so poetic
I’ve probably watched the soprano all the way through about 30 something times and I’m still not even closed to being sick of it. Greatest show ever created hands down
Still goin this asshole.
"This is horrible and funny." Lmao, David Chase has such a dry wit to him, what a legend 😂
C'mon HBO, give us 4K restoration of The Sopranos for the 30th Anniversary. The series was shot on 35mm film, it cannot be that difficult to convert to 4K (ideally with Dolby Vision)
This. 1000%!
I would love that, with a whole complete collector’s edition box set on 4K, with it’s 30th anniversary in the next 5 years
...along with a soft drink of your choice.
My estimation of HBO being a quality network has plummeted
I wasn’t even aware Sopranos was shot on film. God please give us a full rescan and restoration in 4K. That would kick ass.
The brilliant David Chase is physically morphing into Junior Soprano. Thank you for creating, not only one of the greatest of all series, but the one that kicked open the door for a new era of brilliant series drama.
whats that my trial
He’s Ercole!
Yeah these two go back to when Moses wore short pants !
What kind of likeness is that?
It’s a tv progrum…a movie
Greatest show of all time, I could watch it over and over and over again.... As a matter of fact, I binge watch it at least 3-4 times a year. THANK YOU, MR. CHASE 🙏🏾👑
I owe many hours of joy to this man. Thank you.
TOTALLY !
The sopranos should just be called “life”
Sure it’s jersey Italian mob stuff
But it’s truly about existential depression, the malaise of existence, persistent daily anxieties centered around family money and love. It’s funny, sad, scary, HUMAN. It’s why this show will NEVER EVER not be relevant. RIP James gandolfini the fucking GOAT
I've seen the series 50-60 times maybe more, I still go back and watch it anytime I'm looking for something to watch. Timeless classic.
I’m near there about the watches. It’s so addicting

An amazing testament to the enduring legacy of this great show...

You know, Quasimodo predicted all this.
Goddamn now I have to watch this show all over again
The depth of the show and the characters are phenomenal.
He has a lot David lynch vibes. His dream sequences are ultra David lynch.
The absolute GOAT of TV shows. I really hope that The Many Saints isn’t the last we get to see of The Sopranos Universe. Somehow thinking about the fact that there probably will never be any more New Sopranos Content puts a horrible feeling in my stomach. This show literally changed my life.
But Many Saints was pretty bad though
I’ve been rewatching The Sopranos and it always holds up!!
I was such a fan of "Northern Exposure", and any show that had David's name in the credits was one I always made sure to watch! Great interview! ❤
This is, without a doubt, the most exuberant I’ve seen David in an interview setting
I thought I was the only one that thought that David was just a self reserved kind of a cynical individual based off of his interviews.
@@dustinfoster1917 He is clinically depressed
If it weren’t for the music copyright problems that have kept Northern Exposure off of the streaming services, we’d be celebrating that series just as wholeheartedly. To be involved in two of the greatest shows ever made for tv is extraordinary. David Chase is a legend.
Northern Exposure is streaming on Prime now.
@@ErinKeith-rg8kk Thanks, Erin. I hope with the original music. Chris' beautifully written philosophizing on the mic isn't the same without the original tracks behind him. I shall check it out, post-haste :)

@ErinKeith-rg8kk Holy sh*t, you're right! How did I miss that? I LOVE Northern Exposure. And it's on Prime, not the other channels, so it's free...
Actually, Prime's most recent update of their app is a pure mess and really hard to navigate, now. So actually I'm not surprised I missed it...
Thanks for the tip! 👍
Northern exposure is a master piece!
I truly miss James Gandolfini, what a superb actor...
Its like david chase lost a bet and he begrudgingly had to go on these talk shows 😂
I watched Sopranos for the first time in 2021, after watching Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Prison Break, Suits, The Wire, and more. I can confidently say, Sopranos is my favourite show of all time! I re-watched it fully, twice and could easily watch it again and again. David Chase is a genius for creating this!
I watched sopranos before breaking bad and BCS and even after loving both Sopranos was just the best thing I’d ever seen. Is The Wire worth getting into if I enjoyed all these shows?
@@richwoerner5876 The Wire is great, a little too focused on crime, if that’s your thing
@@richwoerner5876yes, The Wire is great too. More realistic, hardly any music, and it's shot in 4:3 coz David Simon didn't want it to look too cinematic. I had to use subs coz I found some of the dialogue hard to follow. But stick with it, it's one of the greatest shows ever made without a doubt.
Junior before they sent him gaga was hilarious. The way those glasses magnified his eyes.

One of the? The best, easily.
Nice to see a Sopranos conversation thats not just about the ending
25 fuckin years, not a peep
The first season premise of Lydia upset from being put into a home ERRR retirement community and placing a hit on her son was awesome!!!
I really wish she hadn’t passed before they could’ve completed that story arc because she was so talented in that role.
Lydia? Mixing it up with Breaking Bad?
She was abhuuuusive to the stapppphhhhh!!!!!!!
We love david chase
Chase also wrote many episodes of Kolchack The Night Stalker. In the first season of Sopranos he put in a clip of a Night Stalker as a Easter egg...
he also put a Rockford Files Easter egg in the pilot 😊
The mark of a great interviewer is one that can keep your interest in a subject (gangster movies) that you care nothing about. Mr. Chase seems cool. Good work Seth.
Mr. Chase, The boss of this family!
All the actors refers to David as "the boss". Everybody love him and respect him so much. And i can see why. David is thoght as a rock.
Show wouldn't exist without his mom. Good interview.
Thank You Mr. David Chase for keeping me entertained for the past 25 years. I continue to rewatch your series as it helps keep me calm from my anxiety as I continue to recover from a massive near fatal stroke that took place on December 19th 2022. I watched the series when it originally aired on HBO and I watched it every week with my parents. It was very enjoyable to witness it back then. Now at the age of 43 years old I’m still very consumed with this series. It’s actually inspired me to write my own script. Not sure where it will take me. It’s just a longterm goal for myself to complete once I’m fully recovered from my stroke. So I thank you so very much for keeping me entertained for many decades. 🥂💪🏻

@@Verhiu seasons 1-4 of game of thrones are the highest level tv ever got to, but those last two seasons happened. So I’d say game of thrones is overall the second best show. Breaking bad is very consistent possible more consistent than the wire, but lacks the layers, works building, characters, message, depth, scope, dialogue etc… that the wire has (love breaking bad but the only show close in this regard is game of thrones), sopranos another excellent show but doesn’t do anything better than the wire besides comedy.

Ah I see 😂 I’ve just got back to the UK and I’m watching the sopranos lol
Sopranos: one of the greatest comedies in television history
what I love about the show is that from a familial standpoint it's so relatable. the fighting, the joking, the deceiving/manipulating, the good times & all the bad - all of it, down to the very diction.
Northern exposure was so weird and cool. I can't get that moose out of my head.haha
I love Northern exposure so much I’m from the Midwest. It flew my family me and my two kids. Out to Washington, so we could go up and see the town that was Rosalyn. The pictures of my kids next to the Brick and having egg salad sandwiches at Roslyn Café are just two of the priceless memories of that trip even took a picture of the moose on the wall. I didn’t realize it was music copyright that kept it off the air, but I understand it another, although not David Chase, and showing my age was WKRP in Cincinnati. Incredibly well written and they went to put it out on DVD. And I got to the episode where Johnny actually plays a hit and Andy is going insane and the hit is supposed to be the opening of the Eagles long run but for whatever reason, Don Henley continues to have a very large bug up his hind end Over 30 seconds of music then in order to put the DVD series out they had to take that out and put in something else.
I love many TV shows, many of them are truly great, but Sopranos are easily GOAT.
Love The Sopranos. Love Not Fade Away. Love Vinyl.
Vinyl was terrific.
The last scene of Made in America brought me to tears (last week!) It's not prestige television. It's high art.

The Sopranos and The Wire are the two greatest television shows of all time.
*The Wire* is the most realistic look at the dark side of American society that we have; from politics, crime, drugs, education, and law enforcement. It's downright uncanny how educational it is while being so entertaining.
*The Sopranos* is one of the most realistic character studies of all time and illustrates the subtleties of the human condition to perfection; from conscience, depression, guilt, faith, and grief. It's also a damn good mob-fiction to boot.
They are both two sides of the same coin, which can be summarized as: _what it means to be a human being in modern America._
The wire is number 1 for sure. Sopranos ranks very very highly as we’ll probably top ten-to thirteen all time but not quite top two
Breaking bad
@@raymondsims7042
Like the OP says, the Sopranos is more about human relationships, characters, psychology... it’s often Shakespearean and has the bravura main performance from JG.
The Wire is more about society and the drugs trade and law and order - not individuals, families etc.
To say the Sopranos is just top 10 or 13 is pretty laughable to me, and if you read through this comments section, it’s plenty of people’s no. 1 show.
What a delightful interview! I still haven't watched The Sopranos (I can't watch graphic violence), but it's impact on the tv landscape is undeniable.
David, thank you so much for giving us “The Sopranos.” It is my favorite show.
Still almost hard to believe how good it was!!!
David Chase is brilliant.
Love seeing people recognize that Rockford was his greatest work.
I will be watching this again... And I enjoyed the ENTIRE show... (and I know how it ended too)!
Favorite recurring device in Paulie's rhetorical lexicon (early series) is when he would immediately repeat a zinger but to someone else in the room who definitely heard it the first time. "You hear what I said to him? I said, "what's he doin' eatin up all the gabagool!"
Honestly, I think the best thing about the sopranos that does surpass all of other shows and it does surpass other shows in plenty of categories, but there are a couple of close shows I won’t name any, but obviously a couple are on HBO somewhere on A&E, but the Sopranos just has the funniest comedy, I think ever written in television. The jokes are absolutely hilariously funny. In a world of crime and violence and drama and also some action the comedy lines are just epic.
The only show have watched multiple times. Each time I see something I missed or makes a different kind of sense. Paule is my fave with Chris's a close second.
For Ultimo, my first thought after he describe how he get is his superpower was, "so he need to be really careful when he take a dump"😅
Sopranos is THE GREATEST TV SHOW OF ALL TIME PERIOD
That title is reserved for the wire but sopranos is certainly up there as well
I remember watching tha last episode and I felt so sad inmediately after it ended. I knew that I would never see a show like The Sopranos... Perfection
so many great things about the Sopranos but the brilliant writers who crafted those scripts never get mentioned . They wrote the fantastic dialogue which elevated the show into the greatest ever.

Borko has kept the flame alive. If it wasn't for his clever compilation clips, I may have never seen the show.
He looked more excited when he turned to face Paulie in Naples after he said "Commendatori."
Ultimo , better call Saul . David Chase blindly but knowingly and stunningly choose Stevie Van Zandt for Silvio told him he had to do the part he was Silvio - guy never acted a day in his life - wow !
Impressive…that super hero pitch predates “The Boys” comic….wow
