As a younger person who really loves the show, there's a couple of reason why a lot of us like it.
In a world where television and movies are becoming more and more censored and there are more restrictions on what can be said and shown, it's really refreshing to see a show like the Sopranos from a time where the only thing that mattered was the story that was told. It's a groundbreakingly gritty show that would NEVER be allowed today. Ralph killing Tracee is burned into my brain as one of the most disgusting and heinous things I've ever seen on my TV screen. And it's fucking amazing.
