Thanks, Zack. We really like our H2O Canadian 15 footer!

Yeah, the keel stiffens the flat bottom and prevents "oil-canning." However, I don't think that the keel has anything to do with "tracking" or "stability." It will inhibit the canoe from being blown sideways by a cross-wind which is useful. I installed a short keel on my Mad River Slipper for those reasons.

i have a fiberglass canoe with a wood keel inside and out. i need to replace the damage inside and replace the whole keel outside. i can find no information and have never seen anywhere this type of canoe. it has screws connecting the inside and outside keel that have striped out so i had to grind them down. question (1.... can i just fiberglass over where the outside keel was and leave it off or do i have to replace it. question (2...if i have to replace the wood keel outside can i put new screws through it into the inside wood keel and if i can, how do i deal with the leaks these will cause.......Help..............thank you stephen.

Would it be hard to rig up 12 volt wiring to run navigation lights and a marine radio?

I suppose that would be a question of how handy are you? If you are comfortable dealing with marine wiring and can use a variety of tools to get the job done, no it wouldn't be to difficult. BUT, there are no bulkheads or cavities in these canoes to support this kind of project so some major DIY would be needed for a clean install.

I've modded a few John boats, wired up lights a few times with marine grade wiring and I used to work on commercial diesel propelled boats after graduating from a diesel repair course. I've got a few ase certs but electrical ain't my thing but I'll try and see lol

If your bed/mattress were shaped like an (inner) canoe, you would be less likely to get a bed sore. I just had a great, long-nite snooze!
