    Kajabi has good reviews because of the network marketing. There are major issues with email and support. I paid over $3500 to have the website build because the site is not user friendly and the videos do not match the site. After 20 minutes of trying to get one photo on the site and it continually messing up, I realized the lie. My WP site - thank God I kept it is much better! Getting out now!

    • @witandwire
      @witandwire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An incredibly important point on tools with great affiliate programs. (There are a few out there, where their marketing team is excellent, so you start to see them everywhere.) I'll definitely agree that Kajabi's all-in-one nature can cause more technical headaches than the rest, although some business owners are really happy with it. But I'm really sorry to hear you had such a headache. Did you end up using a WordPress plugin, or what did you switch to for course creation?

      Hi, Elisabeth. I'm curious, what platform did you end up using? Personally, nowadays I prefer Google Sites. But of course I can't offer the benefits of grading and user data being saved, or completion progress. So, what do you recommend in your own experience nowadays?

    Thanks for this video! Now I'm considering trying Teachable. However, I would like to share my 1-year experience with Podia: I make descriptions under the video lesson where you can have hyperlinks, so I easily embed dowbloadable pdf links and files this way. If I spent that much time working on a product, I’d default to be talking about it too… for example: I worked for Disney for 6 years. While I left them, I still referenced them a lot in future work…… our brain kinda just defaults to what we know most! But yes, you are right, she said that out front! Wow. You have no idea how helpful this video is. I had my course at Udemy and they unpublished it a few months later due to poor sales. They never told me that ‘before’ I invested the time to create the course for their platform. It was a complete waste of my very valuable time. That was about a year and a half ago. Now, I am thinking about repurposing my course onto a different platform and this is the most perfect video I can find on the topic. Thank you SO much W&W! You are wonderful! Finally . Someone that isn't just a kajabi fan . ( mainly because if you sign up through their links they get a % of your monthly payment )
    As someone that's on Skillshare and Udemy . I agree with you Udemy gets you approx $3 each time for s course , and it's so big that it's almost impossible to compete with the instructors that have been on their for 10 years with 45K students base already.
    Was going to go with Kajabi but seems expensive and theirs actually a lot more backend knowledge needed to customize email/domain names hosting etc once you dig a little deeper .

      I'm so glad it was helpful! And great point. If commuity is crucial for you, I'd probably go with one of these two options, which both released updates in Q4 2022:
      Circle: Originally a community forum plaform, they now include a courses option, where you can sell live workshop series or self-paced courses (witandwire.com/circle --> 14 day free trial)
      Thinkific: They just announced a more robust community option, where you can sell courses, communites, or courses WITH a community option. (witandwire.com/thinkific --> free plan & paid options)

    A good summary, well done. HOWEVER, one of the things I find that is TOTALLY overlooked by reviewers is how to stop a paid Subscriber from sharing their Course login details with their peers. 2FA is an option, as the paid Subscriber will probably get sick of their buddies calling them for an authorisation code every few days or so (as far as I can tell, none of these platforms offer 2FA anyway). The ideal solution appears to be Digital Rights Management (where, as I understand, the viewer can only view the content if they have a proprietary viewer downloaded on their PC and there is some confirmation that the machine they are trying to view the content on has been properly registered as a paid platform). This type of technology seems to be very expensive though. I would be interested to know if you have any thoughts regarding this. After all, you can spend hundreds of hours creating Course content and it can be absolutely crushing if you find that people are piggybacking off their buddies login to gain access to Course content for free - a real grrrrrr moment. Thinkific seems to have the edge here. A major problem IMHO.

    • @witandwire
      @witandwire  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a fair point! I don’t think any of these platforms have a unique difference, which is likely why none of the reviews (including mine) address it. I agree that it’s important, but I don’t personally know of a better solution than what’s built into the main platforms currently in the space.

    I liked your comparison. However, you didn't mention that Teachable only allows 10 videos on the free plan, whereas there's no limit on Thinkific. Both now allow only one course. That means, unlike Teachable, you can actually create and publish a working course on the Thinkific's free plan. Incidentally, Teachable also conveniently "forgets" to mention it in their features comparison blog post. Btw, Thinkific now has a one-step checkout.

      They've both updated their free plans quite a bit in the last 6 months, so it's tough to keep up! Currently, Teachable has a free plan - not a free trial - and there is no video limit. • @witandwire
      @witandwire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a good point! It's a criteria that may not matter to all creators, but would be crucial for others. I will say that a possible workaround could be to use Loom (witandwire.com/loom) to host and embed videos in Teachable or any course creation platform. The main reason to go that direction, in my eyes, would be if you prefered the rest of the platform UX in one tool, and 4k was the only thing they didn't offer.
      That said, I think Kajabi has a lot to offer too, and I firmly believe there's no such thing as one right tool for everyone, just different options that suit each of us based on our individual criteria. So I really appreciate you pointing that out!

    Thanks for the comparison! Personally, I've been using Teachable for the last 6 years, and I love their easy to create courses and beautiful overall pages. But lately their customer support has been very slow. I have an issue with billing students (and loosing money in the process) and I've submitted three tickets over the last 15 days and still no response. Plus, they increased their prices and went from unlimited courses to a very limited number of courses for the same plan. I wanted to stay with Teachable (the hassle of moving platforms) but they are pushing me away with such bad customer support.

    Your video is incredibly helpful. I have been a legacy plan Kajabi user for 6 years but have only scratched the surface of functionality. I was considering teachable but as you mentioned, all in one simplicity is a key value for me. Q - can you use Kajabi as a CRM?

    • @witandwire
      @witandwire  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m glad the video was helpful, and great question! If you’re looking for a true CRM - with deal management - Kajabi (witandwire.com/kajabi) doesn’t have that type of functionality (they’re an email marketing platform, at best). If you’re looking for a CRM, you could try ActiveCampaign: (witandwire.com/activecampaign), or you could run a needs assessment to see what functions you really need. It could be possible that Kajabi still works for email marketing if you only have basic CRM needs, but if you want something more robust, or an all-in-one, then AC will be a better bet. The rest of your business could continue as-is in Kajabi, you’d just migrate your contacts over. I hope that helps!

    Thank you for this video. The only thing stopping me from using teachable is the “ 30 day refund “. For someone like myself who wants to sell my recipes/skill set ( a particular technique), I feel that the nature of my content shouldn’t be refundable because the student will go away with my technique or recipe, then still ask for a refund. Is there a way to prevent this on teachable?

    • @witandwire
      @witandwire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I'm so glad it was helpful! I have two answers: the first is that as a course creator, I actually do believe in having a refund policy. Your situation might be different if it's more of a recipe collection - i.e. a digital recipe book - but refund policies lower the perceived risk of purchasing, and it typically means you'll convert more people into buyers (and earn more). Of my programs, I've rarely had any refund requests. They're tied to external factors. And I like to believe that people are good, but that's my personal philosophy.
      If you don't want the refund policy though, the way around it is to use a different checkout platform, like Thrivecart (partner link w/special offer: witandwire.com/thrivecart). If you use another checkout, Thrivecart can automatically enroll students into your Teachable courses, but since you've used a different checkout tool, the 30 day policy doesn't apply. I hope that helps!

      I'm trying to leave teachable because I find it tooo expensive for new course creators who aren't very very good with tech. And where it may seem intuitive for some it's not for everyone. I spent way too long trying to build it - write content for it - and make a LOT of mistakes that had to be solved via email. Email answers for a non-intuitive-tech person can feel maddening. They won't take a call even when a client truly has a problem and it's not for me. $39/mth for worthless customer service when you need em' - I'd rather be on vimeo. To be clear I meant build - write content for - build sales pages for TEACHABLE not the course I was selling. I already have a website. I didn't want to build another one.

    I hit a game-changer *snag* with Teachable!!! : As the course teacher, I have NO CONTROL over the copyright notice on my own courses. The copyright they audio-add to the footer there is *not* correct. It even puts the year in the wrong place - it should always follow the copyright symbol.
    They auto create the copyright notice from the name of the school, and most teachers, especially starting out, may not have their school registered as a business name, which means it should either be the name of the teacher or the name of the company or business responsible for the course content - this is not necessarily the school name! I have been touch with Teachable Support over this, and the reply was that their legal team are happy with the way the copyright notice is, they won’t change it! This puzzles me. Open any book or website, and you will see the year follows the copyright symbol - if the year is at the end of the copyright holder’s name, it appears as part of that name, not as the year of copyright. I always keep the original year of my websites with an en dash between it and the current year. Plus I add “All rights reserved”.
    Thinkific gives you full control over your own footer and copyright notice. But I’m also looking into LifterLMS for Wordpress, as I design my own sites with Divi. I do like that Teachable takes care of all foreign taxes, but the copyright is an extremely important part of a course website, as piracy is rife in this industry, and we need proper deterrents.

    • @witandwire
      @witandwire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting point. It's something I haven't looked into since I've linked my own Terms and Privacy in my Teachabls site footer, and I'll admit I didn't know that the order of the copyright was a significant difference. It's something I'll have to research more. I appreciate you pointing it out!

    • @KerrieRedgate
      @KerrieRedgate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@witandwireIt really puzzles me that Teachable do this, as I've found so many improvements since the Hotmart takeover.
      One other thing I've discovered is that it's Stripe that takes care of charging all the correct international taxes on the actual student/customer/client Checkout invoices (but of course, they can't file them on our behalf), and for only an extra 0.5% per transaction. So this can be utilised on any platform that can integrate with stripe, or even where we can use Stripe Payment Links (which are brilliant!), etc. So this tax charge service could be used on virtually any course platform.

    • @KerrieRedgate
      @KerrieRedgate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@witandwire
      I did try one work-around: If you go into "Custom Text" in your Teachable dash, and go to the "Copyright" "©" (symbol code), you can type your full copyright notice in there, and put the year(s) *after* the copyright symbol, and even add " | All rights reserved | ", but it will still add the text of your school name after that, which is OK. It gives you proper protection and claim to your site and courses content, but it makes for a cumbersome footer on a mobile phone.

      Great question! I haven’t personally tested Wix’s course builder yet, although I have a few Wit & Wire students testing it out with early positive feedback.
      So I think you have two options:
      Option 1: Try Wix’s course builder. (It could make sense to start here and see how you like it.)
      Option 2: Keep your Wix site and use a course creation platform to process payments and deliver the curriculum. Rather than Teachable, I’d recommend ThriveCart for that: witandwire.com/thrivecart.

    Hi Melissa. Happy to have been your subscriber #1000 :)
    I really enjoyed your content and your voice, so I will definitely watch your future content as well.
    For the moment, I am hosting my domain and online course on Kajabi, but to be quite honest, I think they are very overpriced and so I am looking to migrate elsewhere. Teachable seems to be a good option, but since my next course is going to be sold in Sweden, I need to know that I can integrate Klarna and Swish payment systems (Swedish). Kajabi only uses Zapier, so there was no way to integrate. Thinkific on the other hand confined that they can integrate these, so if Teachable doesn't then I will have to go with them.
    Thanks again for the information

      What a fun milestone! Thanks for being the 1,000th 🥳
      It sounds like you have a solid grasp on your must-have features for your course creation platform. I've heard a lot of similar feedback about Kajabi. (It's a great tool for a specific business owner, but either overpriced or not customizable for others who aren't using all features.)
      Teachable has a good reputation of accepting many international currencies. And although they don't integrate with Klarna, you can create payment plans via Teachable, which I believe accomplishes the same goal. (Teachable's support would have more detailed info if you reach out via their site. Partner link: witandwire.com/teachable.)
      I hope that helps, and best of luck choosing!

    Teachable prices have gone up. The new owners do not recognize grandfather status for this reason I’m switching to Thinkific after 7 years. My original plan was for $39 monthly not $59 monthly plus tax.

      I agree that it's tough that they've recently increased their price. I think the main area where Teachable still outshines Thinkific is their payment processing (with taxes/VAT), but if Thinkific comes out with automatic tax calculations - allegedly "in the works" - then it'll definitely sway me toward shifting my top rec from Teachable to Thinkific.
