    Is it considered impolite to use "Tôi" when ordering food if the waiter is older than you?

    • @PickUpVietnamese
      @PickUpVietnamese  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      No, not at all. "Tôi" is the most neutral pronoun among all Vietnamese pronouns. It only makes you sound formal. You will never sound impolite using "tôi" even if the waiter is a bit older than you. However, if you're talking to a much older man than you, let's say 10 or 20 years older, I highly recommend addressing yourself as "em" or "con".
      Good luck with your learning, John 🙂

      Vietnam people will know you are a foreigner, so they will accept “tôi”. In some cases they will correct you with positive behavior. So don’t worry and enjoy saying/speaking . 👍

    How would I order a bowl of phở with vegetable broth instead of chicken?

    • @PickUpVietnamese
      @PickUpVietnamese  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean phở for vegetarians? If so, you must go to a vegetarian restaurant (nhà hàng chay) and order phở chay. "Cho anh/ chị/ em một tô phở chay."
