I prefer Spiderman to be young adult that is trying to apply for University probably Masters or PhD instead of high-school student. As such I would say my preference for him would be around 19-21 years old at this time.
Insomniac Spiderman was good but felt they made him too experienced and is quick to pass the torch to Miles Morales because he is younger I guess?

As much as I love Spider-Man started as a teenage superhero in high school which has us related to the character, his most interesting and memorable stories are when after he graduated high school and went to college and even graduated college. That’s why I love that Peter is already an adult and more experienced in the PS4 game and Into The Spider-Verse. The point of Spider-Man is him starting as a teenager so we can see him naturally growing up which is why there are stories where he’s married and have kids.
I feel like if the Raimi films continued, we would’ve gotten more adult Spider-Man stories for that film franchise. Anyways great video, Lewis.

I've always felt that you could do a pretty cool movie based on that rendition. You could even tie it into the greater Spider-verse by having Peter be played by Tobey McGuire. It's been 20 years since his original Spider-Man movie, and 16 years since Spider-Man 3... plenty of time for him to have gotten married to MJ and had a daughter who's turning 16 and suddenly developing weird powers... and let's be honest, McGuire totally gave off "goofy Dad vibes" in No Way Home...

Whenever people talk about having Spider-Man in high school for a movie it’s usually punctuated by them saying, “that way they could introduce Mary Jane, Gwen, & Harry. That’s where he gets to meet all these characters in the comics. That’s what makes him so relatable.”
Reading the comics, Peter Parker met all the members of his supporting cast...in college...as a young 19-20 year old. It was never his age that made Spider-Man relatable, it was his relationships with his friends, family, and girlfriend. Where he interacted with Harry, Gwen, MJ & Flash is where fans found him the most like themselves.
It was never Peter Parker/Spider-Man in high school that made him relatable. It was always his supporting cast

The thing that I think most people tend to forget is that 616 Spider-Man was literally only in high school for 30 issues or so. He STARTED as a teenage superhero but it never defined him. Throwing him back into his youth every adaption is simply redundant at this point and only restricts the more interesting stories that could be done with his adult life.

I never really understood the emphasis of putting him in high school. Pete graduated and went to college before the 30th issue of his original series. They actually showed him progress to adulthood and kept him that way up until the 2000s when they did OMD (or the 90s if you think the Clone Saga was worse). It's not as if kids aren't going to enjoy Spider-Man if he's older than High school. When I was a kid my introduction to him was the 90s animated series, and he was in college in that show. I'd argue 'personal relationships to the villains' was more of a college and onwards thing in the comics, in part due to how short the high-school years where so the relationships hadn't quite reached that point of development yet, with the arguable exception of JJ's Spider-Slayer and Scorpion exploits.
However over all there should be crossover between Peter's civilian side cast lives and Spider-man's supervillain fights, such as Betty loosing her brother to Glaxton and Doc Ock after he got into dept with them (also her mother got hospitalised, poor Betty). This was the story Spectacular adapted/merged into Liz and Mark's Molten Man storyline.
The two sides of Peter/Spider-man's life should always bleed into one another.

He was not related to Peter Parker whatsoever outside of being inspired by the original's tales. He's also a full-grown adult when he got his powers. Not to mention that with the recent popularity of the Cyberpunk genre with the release of Bladerunner 2049, the Cyberpunk 2077 game, the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, and his upcoming role in Across the Spider-Verse, it's just prime time to have a story about Spidey 2099 set in a dark dystopian future New York/Nueva York. While I have faith in Across the Spider-Verse portraying Miguel well, I also want a story focused on Miguel that takes full advantage of the inherently grimy, dark, and borderline nihilistic aspects of the Cyberpunk genre.

Of course they did this because they teenager Spider-Man is Miles, but Peter really works as he struggles with having a job and being a superheroe, just like Raimi's version of the character in the second and third movie.

Up until 1999/2000s, Peter Parker/Spider-Man was always portrayed as a college aged young man/young adult of around 22-27 years old in the various cartoons and one live action 1970s TV show. The comics had him as a college aged guy since at least the late 1960s. It was only post 2000 that this obsession with throwing him back to high school over and over again started, mainly to appeal to new kids. Before 2000, the mentality was we need to appeal to a wide audience and the only way to do that is make him a college age young adult.

Looking forward to your audiobook. I can say that one potentially really good story that could be told with an adult Peter is, ironically, one without him. Imagine this: it's about 10, 20 years into the future, long after Peter first became Spider-Man and grew into his prime. He's still Spider-Man part-time, however like you said, he now has more, even greater responsibilities. He has a full-time job, and he has a family. AND, while he's still Spider-Man, he's past his prime. Eventually, a foe appears: maybe someone he fought in the past, maybe someone new altogether. Peter dies, leaving behind his wife - presumably Mary Jane - and his kid, who witnessed the whole thing. It could be his daughter Mayday Parker, it could be a son, or it could be siblings: doesn't really matter. The fact is they were born with the powers Peter had, and upon seeing him - their father - get killed by some lunatic while he was protecting not only innocent lives, but also those he loved and while they were still young, it could see their origin story begin in a much different way than Peter's did: one driven by vengeance. Over time, they learn the same lessons that Peter did when he was younger, that hate is a dangerous, poisonous thing - it really is - and that, of course, with great power comes great responsibility. Just something I came up with on the spot: it can still be fleshed out a lot. Thoughts?

I came across this video by accident. And after hearing about what you said, I cannot help but agree. He is Peter Parker. Not Peter Pan. But the peoples in charge of creating his stories and adapting them wanted hi mto remain "Peter Pan" as much as possible in order for the young audiences to feel connect to him.
Also, I also know another way of creating an origin for Peter Parker. Making him one of the traumatized victims of war. Of course, the setting and worlding might need to be different such as Earth is being part of the Shi'ar Empire and it was subjected to raid by the Kree since Earth is considered part of the Shi'ar's territories. As for Peter, his parents died in the raid and is forced to grow up to take care of Uncle Ben, Aunt May and his sister, Teresa. The raid defined Peter as an adult later on when he joined the war against the Kree, which is still raging on, as Spider-Man in an attempt to make the different and to avenge his parents while also swearing to kill every single Kree that he came across. Whatdo you think of this as his an origin of a version of Peter Parker as Spider-Man?

The Highschool thing is already overplayed. We want something fresh. We want to see Peter grow! Everyone who does Spider-Man writing or whatsoever, puts him in Highschool almost all the time! Spider-Man is a coming of age independent superhero who broke ground in comic book history! The first hero without a mentor or being someone’s sidekick. He had to learn on his own. That includes finding jobs, paying bills on time, dealing with bullying, handle carrying all that responsibility. We all relate to him because he’s just like us! Not even Batman nor Superman can compare to him. He is just some kid from queens who didn’t asked for all this, but still decided to do it. Easier said than done, because other people would abuse their powers. Many actually. He is the embodiment of the indomitable will of an average person. When we put our mind to something, nothing can stand in our way. Ultimate Spidermam (2000 comics) captured Peter really good and with a solid good storyline.

1)An actual origin movie. As in who was Uncle Ben before he died? How did Peter feel about his parents? Why did flash have it out for him and how would Peter respond when he was powerless? Why did Peter need the great power speech? Then the spider bite can be the culmination instead of the beginning of the opening or a flashback.

One angle I'd like to see, that was partially explored in The Amazing Spider-Man, is a grittier look at New York, with a more vengeful "outcast" Peter Parker. Starting by going on the hunt for his uncle's murderer, simultaneously feeling an urge to help others he comes across during his "hunt", creating an inner conflict for what he believes is justice, and what Uncle Ben would have really wanted. I would like to see this Spider-Man have more run ins with characters like DD and Punisher, and more demented/down to earth villains, like Sin-Eater, Tombstone, Silvermane, Cletus Kassidy long before he becomes Carnage.

The reason why Marvel Entertainment is so hellbent on keeping Peter Parker young is that the company's upper management has the genuine belief that relatable characters can only be young and filled with angst. They see all generations harp on their formers and how they could've been better in their youth, and want Peter be on the winning side of that battle. If general audiences and consumers don't see the preconceived status quo, readers and filmgoers won't give up their money to see the same story they already know. Even if you work later stories into Peter's youth, you have to rewrite and tweak multiple story points to justify the lack of experience under Peter's belt. Marvel is a company under ownership and jurisdiction of Disney, and will do anything to satisfy the corporate mouse. One More Day was written for Marvel to undo everything up until Peter was just leaving college. In the 80's, Marvel gave Mary Jane a miscarriage to "ensure" that Peter doesn't supposedly "lose appeal." By being considered a parent. Marvel is trying to live off of the stereotype that kids are the only demographic for comic book or superhero media, when projects like Watchmen, THE BOYS, and Invincible all exist. It's a matter of corporate fear and internal politics.

When I was growing up as a little kid in the 80s, Peter Parker was already this young adult guy. I'm not talking an 18 year old teenager young adult. I'm talking the guy seemed AT LEAST 22 years old, if not 24 or 25. He had young adult problems, he had his own apartment in New York, worked at the Bugle, I even watched him get married to Mary Jane. So I honestly legit thought Peter Parker was a college aged 20 year old guy to 25 year old young adult. Yes I knew he did get powers as a kid, but the comics I read weren't that old. The cartoons I watched always showed him as a college aged man. It was only in the late 90s/early 2000s when rumors of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man was coming out that I realized, "oh shit, he got his powers back in 1962 as a high school kid!". From 1999 and after, the push has always been to throw Peter/Spidey back to high school. I was relieved when Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire only kept Peter in high school for a few scenes and quickly moved him to college and working at the Bugle. I never liked high school Peter Parker, never understood the fan push for him. Most of the best stories around Spider-Man come in college and even after.

    This is the reason why,
The Dark Returns graphic novel story surrounding a much older Batman was published during the 1980s.

I started reading Spider-Man back when McFarlane drew him. We were all cool with a married Parker.

Someone can even do a Spider-Man story set in high school where Peter Parker is teacher for the school's janitor instead of a student lol

Honestly I love Spider-Man being a teen because so many kids are able to relate to him (such as myself), but at this point I just want to see Parker grow up. It's like having a kid that you don't get to see grow up because he is always away, so you only remember him as a kid.

An Adult Spiderman is a great idea, it would be really good to see new versions of spiderman and maybe new characters as well

I think this is why so many people got pissed at Sony changing Peter's face in the Insomniac games
Not just cuz is kinda random, but it makes him look young again - when the experienced adult Peter is what makes it so fresh

I can imagine a movie where there is a Peter Parker that grew up in the 80’s/90s and grew older, married MJ and started a family. Gwen Stacy in this scenario would be his late gf from HS whose memory and pain he continues to carry into his adulthood. In this movie Peter could balance being a Husband/Dad with continuing to be spider man into his mid 30s-early 40s. He and MJ could discover that their kids have abilities and figure out how to navigate that. There’s so many possibilities its crazy!

I do agree because having Spider-Man staying as a Teenager and in High School is too much.

One Idea is to keep the 5 rules but start the origin story when Peter is 18/19. Instead of High school, Peter could be going to a Tech College for a Sciences or Engineering Degree. Random Jobs to pay for classes, run-ins with villains on the way to class. Still lives with Aunt May in till getting a steady-ish job. Many friends from high school still around, but there's rifts in the relationships. And MJ can be the welcoming neighbor at Peters new apartment. He would be like any other young adult... with spider powers.

He was only in highschool for 11 years of the comics, so I never understood why that's what all the shows and movies do.

I'm fine with what we have. Because it makes sense for his origin story to be set in highschool. At least now we're getting his college years.

Until they make a good live-action or animated adult Spider-Man film or series, regardless, imma keep swinging to Insomniac. It's the only best interpretation I can think of.

The most likely place we would see an adult Peter is probably a Miles story (lik the Spiderverse film, or the ps4 game to an extent).

The 1994 Spider-Man cartoon (Peter's in college at ESU) is about as close as we're ever really going to get.

One idea I always felt was interesting for a High School Spider-Man story is what The Amazing Spider-Man 2012 kinda had.
In that film, Peter doesn't initially take Uncle Ben's lesson about responsibility to heart. If anything, when Uncle Ben dies, Peter uses his powers for revenge and tries to track down his killer. And Peter thinks he's doing the right thing and is very surprised when Captain Stacey criticizes how this "Spider-Man" is a menace as he's doing vigilante work which both hurts many of the criminals he stops and even disrupts the police's investigations since he takes down some of their informants or disrupts criminal dealings.
I'd love to see a Spider-Man Origin story where instead of Peter initially being that responsible hero, the story is him being irresponsible for longer. Like, he shows off his powers for personal gain. He takes down criminals using force just for the sake of taking them down or for revenge. Even his quips are more just him berating people instead of trying to be lighthearted. Maybe we can even have a section where Uncle Ben gives him a version of the Responsibility speech he initially misinteprets. Like, instead of seeing "Hey, I have the ability to help people, so I should use by power to do so", he sees a twisted version of that where "I have the power to correct some wrongs so I do so without thinking of the wider consequences".
And then, over the course of the story, he sees how his more "Selfish Spider-Man" is actually selfish. Perhaps he sees how people in his school, who initially liked Spider-Man, start to talk smack about him which Peter doesn't initially get. Maybe he sees how criminals end up being deathly afraid of him and even injure themselves to avoid encountering him. The police began shooting at him on sight. Or Peter starts to feel guilty that he's not being a hero when he's studying when a crime happens.
Perhaps the story spans a good chunk of his school life where by the time Peter Graduates, he has fully seen the error of his ways and what Uncle Ben actually meant and becomes that traditional Spider Man.

When I think of Spider-man I think of him being you know a man, not in high school. The only association I ever connected high school and peter was the spectacular spider-man and the ultimate comics up to the late 2000s, then the MCU comes around and now everyone thinks he's mostly a high school kid. Just really takes the man out of spider-man when he's still learning how to actually be spider-man vs being in his early to mid 20s aka his peak when all the truly masterful stories have originally taken place.

The storytelling potential of spiderman settling down with MJ and having kids is ASTRONOMICAL. Marvel literally should have done that back in the 90s
