Decorating my Desk & Bookshelf in the DARK ACADEMIA Aesthetic || things to do in quarantine

- For today's video I thought I would show you all how I redecorated my bookshelf and desk! While in quarantine I had nothing to do so I thought I would do some decorating. Recently I have been really loving the dark academia aesthetic so today I decorated my space to reflect that aesthetic. This video is just for fun so I hope you enjoy it!

That's a brilliant idea - turning the spines of the books away to give a more neutral look, as opposed to harshly contrasting colours. I'm not sure if that's why you did it, but it really is a good idea!
Thank you! I wanted to create an aesthetic based around Browns and neutral colors so turning the spines of the book made the most sense for me!

I do that too only to indicate that I finished the book because I forget
S JAM if you know where the books are, it shouldn’t be a problem. This is just a cheaper way of making it look more neutral. I only do this with the books that I know exactly where each one is and keep the spines of the covers that fit the type of academia showing
I love the idea as well since i do own a bunch of books that have bright spines
PSA: I just wanted to remind you all that I am well aware that this may not meet your standards as to what “dark academia” is. First of all, if you look in the thumbnail it says “dark academia inspired”. I am taking elements of that aesthetic and incorporating them into my life in a way that makes me happy. It’s just an aesthetic and if my definition of that aesthetic isn’t exactly the same as yours, that is totally okay! 💗

idk what makes me have this feeling but i think my dad’s room in the early 80’s and early 90’s was like this, one of the reasons i want to have this aesthetic and the reason i started getting into art more is because miss him so much.
(he’s nit dead my parents are just divorced and i kinda rarely get to spend time with him)

It’s nice to see a desk and bookcase that isn’t considered dark academia (dark wood) and you still use it to create a dark academia vibe. Makes me feel better about my light colored bedroom furniture 😊

All of the books are different, and since I don't own a lot of books, it's really not an issue for me to identify them

This is more of a light academia aesthetic, but it's still lovely
Snake It only looks that way because I have white furniture and there’s nothing I can do about that but everything else is dark academia 😁
yeah, i was just thinking about that . dont get me wrong, i think its beautiful, truly beautiful. But the thing is : dark academia is a little bit more chaotic; like papers with ink marks, piles of books, anotations everywhere.. something like that. Light academia is just more neat, more clean... rather soft, i would say. But is beautiful anyway.
amethyst It definitely looks like that now that I haven’t cleaned it since I redecorated it😂 It felt strange purposely making my desk messy if that’s makes sense? I decided to let it get that lived in messy dark academia look as time went on. I definitely will film a dark academia study with me soon so I can truly live up to the aesthetic!
amethyst Personally, I don’t think it’s to fair to define the aesthetic so tightly- dark academia can be neat and tidy, it just has to be.. dark and academic haha. I agree the light furniture makes it appear more light, but dark academia can be so many different things! Light academia focuses more on academia mixed with cottagecore, so focuses more on the lighter, more plant-y aspect whilst keeping the academic aspect. Both can be equally messy or clean!
