Mine’s a bit of a mess, but thankfully it goes with the aesthetic (my bookcase is a unique design where all the shelves are different sizes, the smallest cubby only holds two books!).

    I think it is okay if you still enjoy and love the hp-universe, I do too.. I just don‘t buy anything related to it anymore because I genuinly don‘t want to support rowling anymore. It kinda sucks that someone like her wrote something that is so important and dear to me. But I won‘t let her ruin that for me. The stories are great, she isn‘t. I just don‘t talk about her anymore

      @katarinasvensson9801 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      First she was misquoted and second this woke culture is scary. I don't like the opinions of some writers but I can se the difference between books and the writers

    • @ninac.5921
      @ninac.5921 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don‘t see why it should be scary if a consumer decides not to put their money towards someone/something? It is basic economy.
      If you make the difference that is up to you and in my opinion valid. But I in some cases don‘t which should be just as valid. Even if it isn‘t, I am still the one that decides where I invest my money and where I don‘t. So at the end of the day it doesn‘t really matter, does it? And to be fair I don‘t think JK Rowling is someone who will be at big loss if a big number of people don‘t buy her stuff anymore..
      But I agree with you that cancel culture can be problematic in some cases @@katarinasvensson9801

      Its so insane, she raves about edgar allan poe who married his cousin when she was a child and oscar wilde who has inappropriate relationships with teenage boys but, Rowling saying sex-based oppression is real is where the moral line must be drawn 😭😭😭

    • @ninac.5921
      @ninac.5921 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me the difference is that JK Rowling is a contemporary author. So I personally like to compare my moral and ethical values with hers. And if they don‘t match in some core values I hold, I don‘t see the point of supporting her anymore. But with an author that is long dead and is not anymore profiting from my money I don‘t care as much because they are not profiting anymore. @@sadbutrad5324

  • @Mel-qr5ob
    @Mel-qr5ob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Wait, what bigotry in harry potter?
    I know JK is a terf but I hadn't spotted anything actually IN the books that was bad.

    • @_isabellaathena
      @_isabellaathena  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are multiple instances of bigotry in the books including antisemitism regarding the goblins in gringotts, racism in JKR’s decision to name a character “cho chang”, and literally only revealing a character is queer until after the books are published. And those are just the examples I thought of off the top of my head. I would definitely recommend researching this further because it’s definitely worth being aware of. But the main reason I dislike JKR is because she’s a TERF

    • @Mel-qr5ob
      @Mel-qr5ob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      @@_isabellaathena I don't like JK either but I'm not seeing anything in the books problematic besides the naming of Cho Chang... and besides her name there isn't anything racist about her writing.
      The way the goblins, brownies(edit: house elves in HP are brownies, realized that would be confusing for people not into mythology since they never called them brownies), trolls, giants, centaurs etc were written follows old conventions that literally everyone uses so I can't see how that's antisematic.
      Like you can literally look at books from hundred of years ago and the descriptions match what JK and every other modern story teller writes goblins as.
      Goblins are hook nosed, short and greedy in lord of the rings, and in basically every other movie where they're included, and even in *anime* like goblin slayer.
      I have a childrens book on my shelf, published in 1983, The Forest of Doom, and even his goblins look identical to hers... minus the suits.
      I don't own any books older than that, but if you see them on wikipedia or in museums the character descriptions are identical.
      the only difference between traditional goblins and JKs goblins is that hers are civilised, well dressed and can speak.
      I know some people really can't seperate the artist from the work but all her bigotry has come out after the books, she claims characters are black which were written white, or gay when written to be straight.
      But very little of her own problematic views made it into the books.
      Either she really kept out her views to make sure it was a hit.
      Or her editor is a angel.
      Either way none of her bigotry besides naming Cho Chang is in the book and sometimes I think art takes a life of it's own and you can appreciate it separately from the artist who made it.
      Eg everyone likes leonardo da vinci's work despite the fact he had a slave.
      If you can't appreciate a work as being a separate entity to the creator then you wouldn't be able to do much of anything, no cars, no electronics, very few books etc because you can be assured there was at least one bigot involved in it's making.

      @@Mel-qr5ob thank you!! All of this 100%. It’s good to separate JK from the works. You can literally find more of this in a lot of the books that were on that bookshelf but I also have to put the time they were released in and know i can’t see everything from today’s lense! I’m glad we are evolving though.
