I think it would be beneficial for kids to learn about the whole world and its history, not just America. Many things are done better in some other countries and learning about that could probably be helpful.

If someone would have asked me few years ago what would I'd like to be when I grew up I would have said YOU, I mean you are the reason why I gave birth at home, I became a vegan, I moved to Tahiti, your videos have shown me another way I had no chance to discover without the internet and TH-cam. I am forever grateful that a woman from the other part of the world inspired me to choose my own path, my own way of living, without taking care of what people think. Without knowing it, you changed my life. You helped me going for newness and trust my gut that what you were showing was so full of light and common sense. One day I will fly to Hawaï thinking about the fact that you are there, and that from this place on earth you drove me where I am now. Un grand merci from a French new mam, happy 10 years vegan, naturopath, yoga teacher and so much more.

I started watching your videos around 7 years ago when Sandy was still a toddler in diapers. I was a student trying to build a stable situation to grow a family. These days I barely have the time to sit down and watch youtube. I'm a middle school teacher and a mom, and my life is very different from what I had imagined. It gives me very bitter-sweet feelings to see your children all grown, it's a reminder of how fast time goes. Whenever I have the time, I always come back to your channel.

For some homeschool books: i recommend to read ‘the little prince’. Also if they will learn French, you can read it in French later.
For chemistry: “our world in pictures: the periodic table book” from DK. Really nice and amazing even for later homeschool highschool!

One of my favorite books to cover in homeschooling is Fahrenheit 451! Such great conversation topics come up like freedom of speech/the importance of reading/access to knowledge/control/media and more. Also, my son loved The Outsiders, Lord of the Flies and Animal Farm. We are getting ready to read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein now.

I stopped watching after the first 11 seconds. I used to love these videos because Ellen was so authentic, but now the vids feel like she is trying so very hard to portray something, who knows what, an earth goddess or some such thing based on the first 11 seconds. I miss the old days of holes in favourite clothes that were still worn and realness. And then of course there are the thousand sales pitches. Unsubscribed.

For my 9 we are going between the Five Children and It triology and the Narnia series. For my 7 we are doing Henry Huggins books and Homer Price. For my 5 we are doing Little House. I am always so happy to see Moms and Dads read out loud to their children. My mother in law was a teacher; and always stressed the importance of it. Also when the older children can read really well; its good to encourage them to pick a book and read the their younger siblings. Reading out loud is a great skill to practice. A couple of my favorites that i read to my children, was The Secret Garden, The Little House series, The Incredible Journey, Anne of Green Gables. Happy reading!!!!

    • @michellesartori6695
      @michellesartori6695 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree with everything you said! I absolutely adore the Little House series, and as a 14 year old I wrote my own version of the Ingalls family grown-up. It was read by students in my high school library with the permission of the librarian. I am 59 years old now, and school was a LONG time ago, and I sometimes wonder what happened to my book. As a mother of 5 adult children, I always read aloud to my children, and I loved it. When my grandson was born I started to read to him too and when he was a little older he would sleep with me and I would read at least 5 books, he's about 3 at this time, every night and I always looked forward to it. He and his mother lived with me until he was 10, so we read LOTS of books. Unfortunately he's grown up now and he'll be 19 soon and as my other 4 children have no desire to have children and my daughter only had the one, I no longer have anyone to read to and I miss it! Childhood lasts but for a fleeting moment, and then it's past, and I think parents should stop worrying about the little stuff and ENJOY their children, especially as they are having so few of them. Time is short, and soon you'll blink, and they'll be grown and gone! Take care now.

    Hi
This may be a strange questions but here it goes… Since you home school your kids, how do you choose to talk about the cycle of life? especially death… death of animals and well as people. I have a 6yr old girl who lost bunnies and has a lot of questions about death and aging. She was even sad when my birthday was coming up because I was “getting older and could die.” sidenote- i do not attend any religious organization and come from a very small family. Any suggestions or materials to help teach her about the circle of life that allows for healthy respect of death instead of fear base approach would be so helpful. Thank you for sharing your lifestyle with the world. PS I live in Idaho just outside Boise!

The Count of Monte Cristo was one of my favourite novels growing up, I'm so glad you're considering reading it to your kids! Such a gripping story and has a wonderful message about forgiveness at the end. The unabridged version might be a bit long to read out loud and can get a bit dark with the theme of revenge, but would highly recommend for the older kids. Have you read any Tolkien together? The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings actually began as a children's story Tolkien wrote for his four kids, which I find wonderful. I also used to love Greek mythology at their age, if you can find an age-appropriate version of the Odyssey it's such a wonderful introduction to classical history! Anything written by Michael Morpurgo is also brilliant, and I think you would really like Eye of the Wolf by Daniel Pennac

Don't introduce the classics when they are too young, I remember being in public school in the 9th grade (13 or 14 years old?) and had to struggle through Ivanhoe; being a girl it was incredibly boring to read and I know I was too young to really get any meaning or language appreciation. Same with Shakespeare -- I hate all of it to this day, because it was taught to us at an immature age. Wait! There are plenty of good stories that will nurture the kids' love of reading without being too heavy or boring.

From the creator of the tuttle twins books:
"They are openly pushing socialism and woke-ism into the minds of our kids every day. Just recently, an elementary school in my community plastered the wall with the ABCs of socialist activism - teaching kids terms such as “W is for woke,” “S is for social justice,” and “A is for activist.” These radical messages work their way into school curriculum, movies, advertising, and social media platforms to persuade our impressionable children."

My Side of the Mountain. The original American Girls series. Both of my older boys read the Kerstein series and enjoyed all the books. Mystery of the Night Explorers. White Fang. We did a read a loud for history (3 years back) that my kids enjoyed, and it lead to some great discussions: Boy of the Pyramids. They retained what was read and discussed, so I would say it was a good read. There are so many others!

A couple of books I loved were The Education of Little Tree and My side of the Mountain...quite old fashioned but have stayed in my memory of favourite books for over 50 years

I was also going to say My Side of The Mountain. My oldest just finished a literary novel study for this book. If he's not interested in the content, there is no convincing him to read on. However he loved this read. This morning I actually commented to myself that there is a reason old fashion novels become classics.

Homeschooling my daughter and reading The Hobbit together. So good and there is a movie trilogy. Although the movies are more mature so those would be good to watch when the kids are older.
Number the Stars by Louis Lowry is a great look at the Holocaust to talk about how we should treat others. I read it in 5th or 6th grade for school.
The Giver, doing the right thing when everyone around you doesnt understand.
Chronicles of Narnia are amazing and age appropriate
    Blessings on your homeschool journey!

Yay for Tuttle Twins ❤️ We love this resource. Little Women is a favorite and the 94 version is hands down the best. Anne of Green Gables is gorgeous and full of nature if you haven't read aloud that one yet. Thank you for such a beautiful content where family is at the heart of everything..

I think the Count of Monte Cristo may be too deep and slow moving for 8 year olds...fanominal book, though

On the homeschooling front for kids books my older kids love My side of the mountain, Phantom Tollboth, Dr Doolittle, my daughter who is about Scouts age loved Heidi, Pipi Longstocking, Anne of Green Gables. My youngest two who are about your youngest ages still love the Peppa books.
As far as count of Monte Cristo as a whole version i personally tried to read it to my oldest 2 sons (who are about your oldest 2 sons ages) and they found it hard to get through so I bought the abridged versions of some classics and they grasp those better. Beowulf is one my oldest just did which he loved. There’s also James and the Giant peach which everyone loved and Fantastic Mr Fox that was a hit for all my 5 kiddos.

Currently single and don’t have kids yet. Maybe some day. But I loved the Little House on the Prairie books growing up. And the historical based American Girl books and movies. Especially Kit, Samantha, Kristen, Molly. Great way to learn about historical periods in an age appropriate manner. Growing up my mom would read the Narnia books from CS Lewis to us.
