I don't know your age, but I remember watching them to back in the 80's when I was attending elementary school. And you're right, none of that sexual deviant garbage here. I wish I could say that was still true on some networks that air kids shows.. but have you seen what Nick is airing?
Thanks for posting! Pretty sure this was originally made in 1978 -- look at the end credits. I first came to see it on cable in the early mid'80s. The lead, Holly Gagnier, went on to appear on Days of our Lives and One Life to Life. The blond friend, Kari Markussen, changed her name to Michaelsen and was on Gimme A Break with Nell Carter and Joey Lawrence.
I know this is just a movie and I really like this movie, but I can't help but wonder if gymnasts in real life who are considered to be overweight are really fed just lettuce or are placed on any severely restricted diet. I mean, gymnastics requires a lot of strength. I would think that the 20-30 mere calories that is in lettuce would not be nearly enough to sustain them, let only provide the energy needed to perform. I remember a time when I was in physical therapy I put myself on a self-imposed 700cal a day diet. It wasn't long before I felt to weak to do the exercises
Wow, times have changed. "Overweights?" Extra exercise, and vitamins and lettuce for dinner? Ginny being put on the overweight list as a punishment for sneaking into the gym to practice her back tuck on the beam at night? Nobody would even think of putting that in an after-school special made nowadays, because it could encourage eating disorders in the young girls who'd be most likely to watch something like this.
they was practically starving these God damn girls lettuce and vitamins and lettuce again you got me f***** up well it is what it is to be the greatest gymnastics in the world I think I guess this is considered what food is for them and life of a gymnast
ladodgerschick: - given that Jodie was born in 1982, i'd say that's pretty much impossible. although the girl does look like her, she's far too old to be Jodie. i don't know what year this aired in, but looks to be from the 80s, so Jodie would've been a young child.
Oh please! People don't change.. times do. If anything, America is more sexually prudish and hyper-sensitive about every little thing someone says or does.
So this after school special was done by Hanna-Barbera, eh? I though Hanna Barbera would never do a live-action special like this one at all and instead only focus on bad cartoons way back in the early 80s.
Some kid in the neighborhood hunting in the forest thought that you was a deer 😭 is that what happened I didn't know but I imagine it really hurt because I have had them happened to me.
I also remember these afterschool specials i really miss them on tv and wished they would return them again but glad they ate on you tube
I love afterschool specials, used to run home to see them ^^ back when America had decency and morals -_-

www.imdb.com/title/tt0974986/?ref_=ttep_ep6 aired in '80. So it might have been '79 when this was in production.
MCMLXXX is 1980

Gymnasts back then were much more developed and older back then. But they looked healthier
The blonde girl kind of reminds me of Jenette McCurdy from iCarly.
Ug something has to be done about Jennies hair!😂😂😂
