Watching this movie now, is hysterical. My daughter was a gymnast and received a full college scholarship at a top 20 college almost 10 years ago. The level of difficulty in this would have been a level 6 on vault back when my daughter competed. The dismounts on bars and beam is nothing! lol It just goes to show you how each year the level of difficulty gets harder and harder! lol Still it is fun to watch it! My daughter's coach was coached by Bella, so these coaches are hardly challenging!
How is it possible for people to be big, but have smooth, toned legs? She was considered “overweight”, but her thighs had clearly defined muscles. I’ve been smaller than her but had cellulite!
Partially genetics, but a whole lot more to do with exercise/activity level. Also even in the 80s this girl would have only been considered too heavy in the gymnastics world, not in the "real world".
I tore a ligament too (in my ankle) it really doesn't hurt as bad as they portray here certianly would be no reason to take her out you just go to the gym and work out with your cast when this was filmed that was common now its less seen but thats what I did I tumbled and did my whole bar routine and the cast actually hepled me improve a lot
I used to love to watch After school special when I was ten years old...
never again will life be so simple, and elegant. Now its all about Mary Lou Rettons

love this, but some things are so silly... like how she has to do her whole routine before doing that new skill on bars each time
The body types looks so good back then....
This is the most ludicrous depiction of elite gymnastics I’ve ever seen
you do realize this was the early 80s?
that coach runs like a weirdo!
Their vault runway was a bunch of folded up mats!

@bubblesandbackflips
the sound is off, she was supposed to hit the ground before she screamed
@bubblesandbackflips, I think the sound on the video is a bit off. But still, a very silly injury indeed!
Way to encourage eating disorders. I figure that if a person can do it and do it well, then why give a shit about what they weigh?
