    Dave Friedman’s Dirty Shirley 40 Watt Head was designed for guitarists that want a Vintage Classic Rock tone inspired by British tube amps from the 60’s and 70’s.
    It is based on a modified JTM 45 but still delivers the signature high gain tone for which Friedman is best known. The Dirty Shirley is a 40-watt, 5881 powered, single channel amp that will give you that vintage crunch and also cleans up nicely by merely backing off the guitar’s volume knob. Extremely versatile, it is capable of producing many styles of music from blues to rock and country by just adjusting the gain and master controls.
    The Dirty Shirley features beautiful black Tolex, tongue and groove Baltic Birch construction and is built to withstand the rigors of the road.
    The Dirty Shirley was designed to take pedals and loves boosts, OD’s, phasers, flangers, tremolos and wahs, while the brand new ultra-transparent series effects loop handles your time-based effects pedals and rack units.
    The Dirty Shirley from Friedman Amplification, a real screamer that fits in your backseat!

    Cool demo. Was great to hear some nice big chords & riffs instead of endless noodling like so many demos.

    I use mine way differently. I turn the volume up to about noon and keep the gain way down and use the gain to control my level. Results in a huge, fat clean tone that barks when you hit hard

    Definitely better than the previous ds 40 demo u guys did...... I have the amp and that demo sounded absolutely nothing like it on any setting, in all honesty I listened to that clip before playing amp in person an nearly discounted it as a choice because of how bad it sounded in that video, played in person and was blown away, best amp I've ever heard or played so I bought it, to this day I'm drooling over it and love it with all my soul but I have yet to find a clip that does it any justice on TH-cam, this clip comes alot closer than others...... Curious why people use an ox box to do demos..... Why not mic an actual 412 with greenbacks?

      Snap! My experience was very similar to yours. I played in person and fell in love from the first strum; bought then and there. I can’t get a bad sound out of it. And one of the things that (ironically for a Friedman) I love so much is the clean tone. It’s so warm and alive. It responds brilliantly to pick attack and guitar volume control and then when it does get pushed the break up is so musical. Works very well with all the pedals I’ve thrown at it so far too. You’ll have to prise this one out of my cold dead hands. The Twin Sister would no doubt be amazing too with two channel options but at the moment the DS40 does everything I need it to.

    How about a"Twin Sister" demo?

    This camp is actually pretty damn amazing! Neck pickup on a les Paul unboosted with Gain singing nice and clear! Usually Les Paul neck pickups so useless with medium gain!!

    sounds good. My Marshalls sound like that too. My Boogies MK III, F 50, and the MESA TREMOVERB Combo sound much more powerful though Mesa RECTO Cabs with the V 30s. I love the breakup this amp has, still reminds me of the Marshall, or the Ceriatone that I had

      Build quality is way nicer , and the Friedman is all hand wired and your hearing more output overdrive as opposed to preamp distortion

    Thanks for the demo in the middle position. Everyone seems to think the middle position is tabo, or something. Nice demo.

    I have this amp and a Wildwood Smallbox among others. Your video does a lot of justice to the amazing tones on tap. For the readers, one thing no review can supply you is just how incredible the feel is with this amp. Hearing it is a real treat, feeling it beneath your fingers is absolute bliss. While it specializes in classic rock, it has plenty of gain on tap for hair band stuff too. Throw a boost in front, especially one that can tighten up the bottom end like a Buxom Boost, and it gets real mean.

      In a nutshell! I have the DS40 combo. It’s beautiful beyond my words to express.

      What gain setting would u guys use for acdc? I stray between highest and higher (down position on head) I like the bite of the stock setting but the mid gain setting has that classic plexi sound to me

    • @riloh58
      @riloh58 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I don’t play much AC/DC so not sure I’m the best to advise. My current default is gain switch down (mid), and I have gain set to about 12 o’clock (50%). Might tweak it up or down from there depending on what I’m doing. Pedals and guitar volume to push it from there (I am usually on an HSS Strat). My thoughts are that the mid gain stage with gain knob set to somewhere in the top half would do it.

      im curious about lower volume on this..say even down to bedroom level. with the master control does this allow that and you can still have high gain sounds?

    • @riloh58
      @riloh58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mbach - IMO yes, you can. I can’t crank too loud where I am most of the time but you can get quite a lot of preamp breakup with the master set very low (just on). The master volume is very sensitive, and I mean that in a good way. You can have it barely above hard off and can get the lowest volumes through. Of course you won’t get power tube OD breakup using this method, that just needs loadsa volume. And I should also say the DS40 isn’t meant to be a high gain metal amp if that’s what you’re looking for, It’s more aimed at classic-modern rock. If you want a high gain amp there are other options available (? the SLO30?). Again this is all my opinion, and my advice is to actually play a DS40 if you possibly can and see what you think. I adore mine, it does everything I want it to and I can’t get a bad sound out of it.

      @@cardbored_ This amp lacks the overdrive clarity and note separation of a healthy Marshall 2204. This video is actually pretty accurate. It sounds this fizzy and muddy in person too.
