Can you remember the Cadillac Escala? Many people confuse it with the Escalade SUV, but Escala was a sedan concept. Escala started its journey as a hypothetical car.
Are you up for some time travel? Let's go back in time. Some of you will remember the Escala concept car introduced by Cadillac at the luxury car event called Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2016. It was a dream car and many people in the comments tell Cadillac to make it. Why do concept cars always look so beautiful but never become reality? Now, according to the news, it is stated that this luxury sedan concept is preparing to enter production. The source of this news is a source called Auto Forecast Solutions.
Cadillac showed the Escala concept, which gives important clues about the future of the brand before the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance held in California.
The concept car, which takes its name from the word meaning "scale" in Spanish, seems to be above the CT6 in the Cadillac's model range.
Johan de Nysschen, President of Cadillac, said in a statement: "First of all, Escala showcases what Cadillac's next-generation design will look like. It also represents the brand's return to Premium spirit while highlighting its character."
The luxury sedan also appeared in an advertisement at the 2017 Oscars. After this advertisement, the dealers of the automobile company began to be flooded with customers. But since Escala is just a concept, of course, customers got nothing but disappointment.
Understandably, Cadillac is promoting this concept through commercials because the Escala is not just a design language preview, it's also a model that will be at the top of the range. The automotive giant also explains that Caddy has "a serious intention to produce something similar in the future". Considering that it attracted so many customers even when it was just a concept, it would not be wise to not produce it for the masses.
Yes! Cadillac Escala is a concept car. All great concept vehicles begin with a design brief. The design story of Escala is very interesting. “A future vision of a chauffeur-driven Cadillac but one that you would desperately want to drive yourself.” That was the brief that was given to the designers and this is their response.
The best thing Escaladid is to confuse the hell out of all internet search engines. But it would definitely fill an important void for Cadillac which has been without a real halo car for some time. The CT6 and the CTS are both very nice cars, but they lack a certain je ne sais quoi that would put them on the level of products from Mercedes or BMW. In a perfect world, it would be so great if the new Escala would possess that allure.
If we recall the Escala concept, this luxury sedan appeared 2 years ago with a length of 5,347 mm. That means it's even taller than Cadillac's current big sedan, the CT6. In this magnificent concept, there was a twin-turbo and 4.2-liter V8 engine as the engine. However, it was not disclosed how much horsepower the engine produced in this vehicle. Another detail we know about its engine was that it had cylinder shut-off technology. In this way, it is aimed to keep values such as fuel consumption and emission amount to a minimum.
The Escala concept was also a model that showed the direction of Cadillac's new design approach. But until now, almost everyone thought that this vehicle would remain just a concept. When we look at the incoming information again, we learn that Escala will enter production in 2021 at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck facilities. This facility is also the facility that undertook the production of Cadillac's current flagship sedan model CT6. We think Escala can be a great competitor to high en rides from Sweden and Germany.

This is a beautiful car but I would be amazed if they were to bring the pillar and frameless doors to production. That is a cool feature not seen since the early 1970's.

@@magnificumimperium8392 I've had 2 CTS's and I'm driving a 2013 XTS - great cars. Just pissed they stopped making the ct6 or else I would have bought one. It would great if they made this, but not likely.
Started with an ATS, traded up to an XTS (yes skipped the CTS), and now I'm in a CT6. Every time, I've tested the Benz & BMW equivalents, and have never been able to beat the feel or enjoyment of the Cadillac's. The Escala is bad ass!

Well, as you said, I saw this in 2016. Let's hope they actually build it. Cadillac definitely needs this. The CT Brand is such a dumbing down of the luxury brand in my opinion.

There are no plans to build this car. Cadillac is launching an electric SUV, and in 2024, should launch an electric sedan. It’s doubtful it will even remotely resemble Escala. Sadly.

Actually, the CT4 and CT5 are modelled after the Escala concept bodywise. I just wish they had emphazised headroom in the rear as well as a rideshare driver.

I have a Cadillac ELR which I bought after they were discontinued, and their prices dropped way down. I love the car and it was also a concept car for Cadillac. The car was great until I moved into a condo building with a communal garage and assigned spaces so I can no longer use the electrical battery part of the car which made it very economical for me. I tried the quick charge stations but the plug in on the ELR does not support the quick charge plugs so I have been driving it on the gas generator engine for over half a year now. The car is a hybrid built on an upgraded Chevy Volt system and when it came out in 2014 Cadillac was charging 80k for it. The price point plus the almost useless back seat due to the fast back roof line drove the car to become a failure, and it was only produced with a few upgrades in 2016 at which point they cancelled production on it due to poor sales, so only 3k of them were ever produced. It is an extremely rare automobile, and I have only seen about five of them since they were introduced. I think the ELR is more attractive than the Escala, and it came packed with every option. I hope Cadillac does not make the same mistake with the Escala since 200k is a very hefty price tag.
I have two Gen II Chevy Volts and I absolutely love the ELR. I would consider one as a collector car.

This is essentially why manufacturers shouldn’t wait too long before making a prototype into a reality. Although the design is still the best inside out even today, the market has grown and shifted beyond compare between its inception and now. A day and a dollar short. a little too short.
Retain the design and shift to producing possibly a hybrid or even an EV, free up the floor bumps and the transmission tunnel. And those frameless doors without the B pillar for a monocoque design, i sincerely hope they will make it a reality or even possibly use the under tranny as the base frame and take advantage of the floor battery height to strengthen the frame and make it really happen for a road going car…. Please do

Unfortunately largerish cars in fastback form don’t look that good especially in 4door form.I’m happy to hear it’ll have an engine and rear wheel drive (they’ve finally learned a lesson).I think however the word has mad it to the streets that cylinder deactivation is good for a companies cafe score but not for long engine life.good to see however Cadillac heading in the right direction especially with the mentality of the string pullers in Washington
