When they mention Madness being linked to skinheads, Skinheads were originally anti racist and linked to Ska and dance hall. The racist skins came later and co-opted the style.

I was an original skin in 70 - 73-ish in South London and we were proud that our firm was black and white.
We loved each other’s music, each other’s style and each other’s parties.
      ,oh the parties !!
Brixton had the very best parties, often starting Friday night and not stopping til about early monday morning.
The music was reggae,Motown, funk, southern soul, northern soul, danceable rock, psychedelic and even pop.
There’s nothing like that today or ever will be.
      The buzz was unique.

Absolutely right, skins didn't care about race, like all music movements in UK everything was Inclusive. Music is music .

Robbie Williams absolutely did make it by himself he didn't need take that to make it big, if you ask anyone to name a big male solo singer the first person most people think of is Robbie Williams, you do reaction to his hits over the past thirty years

Take That was extremely popular in the UK. Then they stopped for about 10 years but they then released a new album, which became massive again, reaching the same popularity as when they were young or even more popular. This is a really rare thing to do!

Take That was a very unusual case in that they were huge until they spilt in the late 90s at which point Robbie Williams was the most successful as a solo artist. After the band reunited over 10yrs later (without Robbie Williams) they starred where they left off with a new album and were every bit as successful as they had been first time around. It’s highly unusual for a band to reform and continue at the same sort of success that they had originally.

Many of these band were massive throughout Europe, Australia and the Far East. Many balked at the effort a protracted US tour (eg: U2 ) would take. Months or years away from home/family etc, especially as EU has a population over 400 million, with more than 700million on continental Europe alone - more than twice the population of the USA. If you’re big in UK/Europe; the US is nice and has huge spending power, but not the feather in the cap it used to be in the 60/70s. They ain’t short of a few quid that’s for sure.

Agree. Up to 8 number 1 albums now in the UK. Bob Dylan recently named them one of his favorite bands. They are friends with many classic bands and have toured with many of them over the years. Definitely check out their covers and B-sides released over the years too!

oasis v Blur... both released their singles the same day. They hated each other, it was Manchester v London or the North vrs the south. It was a media frenzy all over the tv who is going to win the battle of the bands to get the number 1 spot. ask anyone 30+ and they will all remember this so well... it was huge in the uk. there are loads of you tube videos on this Oasis v Blur

Skin heads is not the same over here as in the US, it was more the way they looked, dressed and the music they listened to which was Ska, two-tone music which was a mixture of traditional Jamaican ska music with elements of punk rock and new wave music.

In the sixties , the Brit’s invaded America. The Americans produced Motown . Unlike today , people were cohesive in music listening. Radio stations played everything . We were music educated , unlike today. The Brit’s invaded again in the eighties . I remember my son followed Kasabian on the 2000’s . Every year I was glued to the t. V. to watch Glastonbury from England. Oasis and Kasabian played . Good memories and great memories. I still listen to the Smiths and the Cure. My grandson listens to The Beatles Abbey Road. I told him about Yard Act a new British band. One has to dig for good music these days . It’s a lot of work but worth it . American music is stagnant right now .

Of course it works both ways - people often point to instances like Television (as in Tom Verlaine & co) having a Top 10 hit in the UK when they couldn't crack the Top 100 in the US (though now everyone agrees their debut, at least, is a classic)...or Captain Beefheart having a run of hit albums in the UK but never charting at home (no matter, iconic status assured).

Most of these British bands cracked major parts of the world, just not America.
Almost in this list would be an iconic 60’s British band,The Kinks.
I know they had one hit there, was it Lola? Not sure, but the vast majority of their great music was massive in the UK.
They once were told, maybe you are TOO British to appeal to American audiences,to which the legend that is Ray Davies said “you make that sound like a bad thing”
Sometimes,we like the fact that only we can “get” the kind of music produced by many British bands.

Take that didn't need the money, the lowest amount they each has is £50 million each then the song writer he is worth around £100, million, then Robbie Williams he got £100 million for one contract for 3 albums

Hmm.... I'm not a Take That fan. I was a kid when they were hot, and I hated them. However, Robbie Williams as well as other Take That members have had illustrious solo careers. Robbie WIlliams was a star on his own for a few years. These guys didn't have low bank accounts. In fact, I think Robbie Williams is a friend of the Royal family or something. They reformed to add a fat paycheck to what was already a fat bank account.
