Thanks for the comment. I buy that tape at a local box store. It's a gardening "tie" tape that I assume is available in many locations. It is not grafting tape, per say. It does, however, work just fine for that purpose. Many trees I buy are grafted using electrical tape.
Someday you will have to take an orchard walk with your CJ cam. It could be very interesting! I think I will hold off on grafting. I really hard freeze --which we still might get-- might kill a young graft. I usually graft in early May. This being April 14, I have a few weeks!
I prefer using reverse saddle grafts when doing this. It provides far more cambium contact and it makes a much nicer, cleaner looking result, it's also stronger. I use chip or bud grafts on.stone fruits, especially with peaches.
That tree took and has been moved out into the orchard. Saddle graft is a great graft, just a bit trickier for me since I haven't done them much. Thanks for the comments!
Eric, the graft did take and the tree has been planted out. I don't have a pic of for follow-up, but I would like to mention that I've started bark grafting this size root stock with great success. I find it does better for me than cleft. thanks!
CSA toolbox I have purchased rootstock from Cummins Nursery, and Century Farm Orchards. I have found that dwarf stock graft best after setting in the garden for a year. semi-dwarfs can be benched grafted when you get them.
I love your "worm-cam". Wealthy is a vigorous grower. Now we get to watch it take off!

Would you consider selling about 10-15 small M111 rootstocks??
I have planted mm111 rootstock plants this year
When I should graft them (I e after 1 year or after 2 years)
You can graft this year, but letting them grow a year before grafting adds a lot of vigor to the new scion.
We plant a rootstock just like we plant a tree? Can we plant it in a container, or we have to plant it on the ground?
another good video.....I was wondering where you buy your supplies, I have been wanting to get into the tree farming.
were can I get that tape you using it with no glue?
Great video by the way. Thanks for you time.
thanks
Refet
It's the only scion doing much of anything so far. I couldn't get CJ to hold the camera.

I read in interview, Union in MM111 should be at not more than 2 inches from ground. Is it true ?
Can't really say. As a rule, I'd graft semi dwarfs low if possible. Just don't let them scion root.
Great work. What is your root stock? Same as your graft? How different can the root stock and graft material be? Thanks for your work and lessons.
Thank you Fred. That's an apple rootstock grafted to Apple. Crabapple works too.
Do you have to put the scion on the edge like that? Would the graft take if you put it bullseye in the middle?
Yes, the cambium layer is on the edge and must be matched to the same layer on the scion inserted.
Thanks!
Okay, thank you. :)
where do you buy tour tree sealer,/and tape
robert peter dunford Most any Lowes or even wal mart. It's really nothing special and electrical tape will work.
+robert peter dunford try plumbers teflon tape. and paraffin wax.
does anyone know what plant the M111 comes from, is it privet
I need to know to does anybody know?
Jonathan Langston MM111 is an apple rootstock as far as I know.
Sir which variety is batter at 1500 mtr.. M 106 or?M 111
I cannot say. 111 is a workhorse though. If you have less than marginal soil, consider mm111
Very nice!!! Good to see you are a "Wealthy" man now... lol.
Hello John, your scion is smaller than the rootstock ? Can you graft 2 scions on that rootstock ?
You can, but I wouldn't on the size in the video. Not to say it wouldn't work.
Where do you purchase your scion wood? I am looking for persimmon / fuyu wood scions?
Typically Cummins nursery. Good product.
Persimmon scions are tough to find. Might look into your closest fruit and nut growing association.
Did this graft take? Pic?

how is you pawpaw grafting going
Johnnie Blevins Pawpaws are doing well. Lots of flowers this year so fingers are crossed.
how are your fruit trees doing ?? hope you are having better success !! do miss the updates
I would bet that they didn't take, the graft should have been taped tight to make sure the cambium layers were married before the wax was put on
