- Back with another Rush classic... A song about a car... ;) I'm not totally happy with that performance and had again synchro issues with the tape (I need to get a better setup some day...) but that's all the time I had to do this one... This song is dedicated to my sister Sonia, a drummer and Rush fan (because of whom?): Bonne Fete en retard! [For those interested: the new cymbal on the left is the new Paragon Diamondback chinese! im 50 years old, been into rush since my 20s. you hit me in the heart. Great playing.
The reentry fill after the guitar solo, starting at the concert toms, is just so exuberant. I was holding my breath as it came up. Perfect.
This song brings back soooooo many memories of summer '81 as young kid in Pacific Northwest. Hot outside, going to the lake after parents get home from work. Hanging out with neighbor friends during day, no school.
LOL!!!! Man, I can play that song, but I use some cheats. Man, that was an incredible performance!! I didn't see a missed hit. I hear Peart is retiring after this tour. You should send that to the boys. I've never seen a better rendition of Barchetta, and I'm pretty old, lol. Seriously, Great job man.
Honestly this is one my my utmost favorite Rush tunes ever!! I've never stop listening to it. I think Neil really characterized the feel of his favorite car.
Not to mention the flow of the music, Neil going from cymbal bells to a triple feel on hi-hat then all out rock, Alex using harmonics at the intro and Geddy giving an amazing show on bass.
It's just simply amazing!

I agree, it blew me away that he included the stick toss. If he can do it then, I would like to see him do it on other songs where Neil does it.

I've been listening to Rush since I was in my teens (2112 was my first). I'm 60 now and I've seen only a few drummers who can keep up with the great Neil Peart. Dude, you're one of them. You simply kicked ass on both "The camera eye" and "Red barchetta". Keep up the awesome work!!

Hello, I'm from central N.J. and I'm in my late 40s now my first RUSH concert was A Farewell to Kings Tour. An old friend back then A.B. turned me on to RUSH back in those days, He had the best stereo and biggest speakers in his parents basement I'd ever seen. Those are such cool memories. Thanks! Well, I have several "sweet spots" on the Paragon ride. If I want more presence and overtones, I hit it closer to the edge. For more attack and a louder sound, closer to the bell. For cutting through anything, on the bell. Ride cymbals can have a lot of different sounds and subtleties. Experimenting is good!
Taylor is a very cool drummer. He played well on these songs, with contagious enthusiasm. Can't beat that!

@Astrotama That is my all-time favorite promo pic of Neil, behind his Candy Apple Red Tama kit with brass or gold plated hardware floating on a raft in the middle of a lake. Probably the drum kit I like the best also. I saved some of the printed promo pieces that used that shot but the banner is super cool. I tried to get one from a music store way back when, but no luck. Btw, your drumming is probably the most accurate Peart drumming I've come across. Great job!

Who said that did not happen? ;) In fact, in the take before that, I had to catch the stick with my left hand... but I messed up a fill later on. In fact, at the end of this video, you can see me flipping the left hand stick... the whole tip just exploded and I had to finish the song playing butt end!
