As someone who was riding in buggies like this in the late 70s, Rudy, with your hair flying in the breeze as you tore down the road in that sand buggy, I swear I had the best flashbacks of some of the greatest times of my youth watching you tear it up and pull up the front wheels. Thank you brother, for bringing that awesome piece of History back to life!
The old schoolers will remember when Rudy was in the shop everday and in everyone of the vids lol i remember i started watching maybe around 20k subs lol
Living in socal in the 60s my dad and brothers had a buggy with corvair engine, they used to run on baha, always looked like fun.(I wasn't born for another 25 years and 5000 miles north lol) My first car was a 71 beetle, have it and a 67 now, always wanted to build a sand rail, but theres not much reason in Alaska 😂 other than looking cool going waaaayyy too fast to the mall... but between you and Paul at fabrats lately, I might just weld up a frame and try it this summer anyway!
With the front wanting to do a wheelie so easily you might have to add turning brakes to have a little steering control while on the throttle and in the sand. I have what I am going to call a show sand buggy that belongs to a friend and has been sitting under a tarp in my heated garage for the last 24 yrs and I have never heard it run. It is a 1974 VW Thing with a 6 cyl Porsche engine. It is complete and is showing 20 miles on the odometer (new gauge cluster) since it was a trailer queen and maybe a loop around the showgrounds. It has two of about everything from the shocks, fuel cells, batteries, etc. It has a costly plush interior with a padded roll cage and 4 racing seats with harnesses. It is bright red with quite a bit of chrome. I would estimate that it was built in the mid 80's with the best of the best at the time. It lived its whole life in the Garden Grove area of CA and is now in heated storage in SE Ohio. Anyone with more money than sense like the lifelong fireman that built/had this built let me know. No title, bill of sale only. It was inherited and since it would not pass CA emissions the little paper trail it had before leaving CA has been lost. I did see a folder of receipts that contained most of what was purchased and labor paid out but that has been over 20 years ago and never in my possession. I forgot to mention there were 2 more roadworthy ones I know a year ago. Back to yours, it should be the fastest, use a very tall flag and maybe look into turning brakes , the same principle as like on the Bombi but made for sand rails. Make sure your seat harness is not too far out of date.
WOW look at that tank Robby didn't blowtack and static it. Nice to see Big Ed out giving you all insight. Rudy that is a monster you will really need to be careful with it. It will definitely need new shocks.
Rudy .. I would say it deserves a full resto , and many mods along the way ! Let's see what you can make of this worthy beast .. 👍👍.. Then let's "TEST ON IT " ...
I'm so glad to see the bruthers working together and having a ball at the same tyme with their projects. Glad to see Collins leg is mending without problems. 👍🏾
This was definitely filmed a while ago, you can see Bombi's engine isn't even installed yet. Looking forward to all the sand rail (dune buggy) content coming up from MORR/RAD and Fab Rats
Fun video! Looks like Matt should assign someone to go out once a week or so and start up everything parked in the yard that’s supposed to run but isn’t used regularly. The chance of finding something that runs well on the first try when they need it would be greatly improved.
When I first built my 66 Baja Bug I put a 1962 Corvair engine in it. After 3 years and having trouble finding parts, I put a VW engine in it. I drove it for 22 more years on and off road. I gave it away more than 10 years ago and I still miss it. 😢 You got some nice wheelies in yours hitting second gear like that ! 👍
Was going to comment push starting cars is the next level of friendship after helping someone move. I was gonna say you have all those vehicles why are you not pushing with one of those but for the first time ever you started using the jeep as a pusher before I could make the comment. Happy to see another RAD project launched!
I built one much like this in ‘69 with a couple buddies in Auto Shop. Built the frame and learned to weld on 2.5” galvanized pipe. It was really fun, and fast!!
On the carburetor it’s called a spider bridge. I had one on my dune buggy. I think the guys name is Marty Corvair over in city of industry. California look them up. Good luck. Yes definitely have to go for barrel carburetor over a bridge that’ll give you room to place a new air cleaner on top.
If my son wanted to ride he had to clean the carburetor. So he learned. Thats something he can use on a lot of old vehicles. My dad had Corvairs i didn't think of using the motor for a rail . My friend Steve had a cool Baja bug one piece front end and a one piece rear fenders whale tail . And a 2180cc motor.
Seeing a couple weeks ago the younger generation at MORR we're playing with sand rails, Fabrats now doing the same and now Rudy breaking out old metal.
Great episode. Great job. I’m not sure if you know but FabRats has been putting together some old VW powered rails/sand buggies. I smell competition at Sand Hollow in the near future. The Corvair powered buggies were fast and loud with straight pipes. Now everyone has LS powered long travel ones.
Your gona have a he'll of a time tuning that 110 with 4 carbs🤯 I had a corsair corsa with the same set up always had problems with them..but when it ran good ,it was FAST good luck👍
I had one of these .. sortof .. in 1977 motorcycle wheeled downhill coaster mod. it was a sandrail, but my dad took my motor. i made due. sold it in the 90's no idea where it went from there.
Delicious. Imagine, if you will, the back end of that with a sharp angle from the rollover loop - a fastback vs the wagon shape it's got now. With a tuned and sweet running engine and the maintenance work done, that is gonna be a laugh rocket!
@Rudys Adventure and Design @matts offroad The offroad flag pole on the sand rail.. is a 102" HUSTLER 27MHz walkitalki antenna and a barrol spring and ball joint way better then that glassfiber poles you use... the stainless high tension spring steel don´t bend easely... and often survives roleovers
Perfect. "Maple syrup" in the carbs that had to be cleaned out and you chose to leave the old gas in the tank 😅😅😅. No surprise everything you tried to start in the yard has running problems. Future content coming up. That's where the real entertainment is. 😅 17:14
Fun stuff, I hope that young lady that hangs out at Matt’s shop finally does more than grin and keep her hands in her pockets all the time… kinda weird Like she is a token or something .. What a great ride and you made it happen !!!!
YO Rudy, Pro Tip on the brakes....You don't really need to work on them, all they will do is slow you down....I think I see where Matt got optimistic personality! Thanks for the video.
Every time I see you guys testing cars etc on public streets, I think "Wow, here in Australia they'd lock you up and throw away the key for doing that!!!"

Brotherly love: "What the crap dude" reminds me of my 3 brothers!
I couldn’t stop laughing at that 😂

Cool project. Keen to hear more from Zach; guy is right onto EVERYTHING!

you literally could see the moment all the carbs cleared and took off like a beast
WOW look at that tank Robby didn't blowtack and static it. Nice to see Big Ed out giving you all insight. Rudy that is a monster you will really need to be careful with it. It will definitely need new shocks.
Great smile on your face when cruising down the street…
Fantastic! You are going to a have so much fun!
Rudy .. I would say it deserves a full resto , and many mods along the way ! Let's see what you can make of this worthy beast .. 👍👍.. Then let's "TEST ON IT " ...
Rudy you guys have the best dad ever and I know you are going to have a good time when you get it running like it should be
That's a sweet ride Rudy!
I'm so glad to see the bruthers working together and having a ball at the same tyme with their projects. Glad to see Collins leg is mending without problems. 👍🏾
That was awesome! Family enjoying this time with you!
This was definitely filmed a while ago, you can see Bombi's engine isn't even installed yet. Looking forward to all the sand rail (dune buggy) content coming up from MORR/RAD and Fab Rats
I really think you got the best sand rail out of all of them the way that thing is set up awesome
Fun video! Looks like Matt should assign someone to go out once a week or so and start up everything parked in the yard that’s supposed to run but isn’t used regularly. The chance of finding something that runs well on the first try when they need it would be greatly improved.
That or drain the gas out of infrequently used vehicles. Put drain taps in. Ethanol gas turns to acid sludge in months.
When I first built my 66 Baja Bug I put a 1962 Corvair engine in it.
After 3 years and having trouble finding parts, I put a VW engine in it.
I drove it for 22 more years on and off road.
I gave it away more than 10 years ago and I still miss it. 😢
You got some nice wheelies in yours hitting second gear like that ! 👍
That thing will be a beast Rudy 😘
You are just like your Dad when it comes to projects.
Except for the forgetting gas thingy 😂. Even Ed was checking it out of getting it running again.
Used to put my bug in second gear, then push start it till it was driving away from me and run to jump in. Good times. Miss that car.
You got it started and it sounds pretty decent for sitting so long. Now get all thelittle things fixed and your going to have a nice sand rail.
That Rokon paint job is holding up nicely.
Was that a Robbie Jobbie?
Was that a R. Layton?
Nice piece Rudy. Thanks.
Good time had by all 💪😎
Great start finally, Rudy. It’s gonna be Bad Azz🤙😎
2:15 Quality paint job right there! 😂😂😂
I just watched FABRAT'S work on 7 VW powered sand rails. I see a competition between Corvair and VW coming this summer ❤😂
Awesome video sir. Thank you for helping your dad with his anything corvair illness!!
Unwavering dedication and humility make you a standout. Congrats!
“What the crap dude”. “Sorry” the number of times I’ve heard that before my two sons start fighting 😂😂😂
Was going to comment push starting cars is the next level of friendship after helping someone move. I was gonna say you have all those vehicles why are you not pushing with one of those but for the first time ever you started using the jeep as a pusher before I could make the comment. Good morning Rudy have a great day oh and everyone else 👋👋
I built one much like this in ‘69 with a couple buddies in Auto Shop. Built the frame and learned to weld on 2.5” galvanized pipe. It was really fun, and fast!!
nothing is more fun then old school buggies

Whats up with the bubbled paint and flaking paint on the little Rokon?
Plastic tank. Gas migrating out in gaseous form, taking the paint along. Common problem
@@theonlymadmac4771 oooh. I assumed it was a metal tank. Interesting.
Merlin,Jet ski Jim, Brad,Fab Rats, now Rudy, how many of these gems are out there ?
Good morning Rudy I am looking forward to seeing you get the sand rail back up and running it will be fast and dangerous for sure
The Name Of It Is The RAD RAIL LOL that thing hauls butt man. Can't wait to see you fix it up Rudy. Thanks for the video.
Rudy's face when it wheelied! lol
I have a feeling once you guys get this thing running right that thing is going to be pretty quick! Be safe and have fun👍🏼🤩🫡❤️
Wow, just like when I changed 1600 to a built 2000cc two carb 72 pinto, it was great father son build.
Caitlin it's ur new added responsibility to start n run one vehicle EACH day lol. Pic one a day n run it so they stay READY at all times !!!
When that thing finally got running, what a hoot!
That thing is wild!
Higgins running away during start up is hilarious.
If my son wanted to ride he had to clean the carburetor. So he learned. Thats something he can use on a lot of old vehicles. My dad had Corvairs i didn't think of using the motor for a rail . Sandbuggy hillclimb contest Glammis can’t wait 😜
That buggy has some valuable front wheels!
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
That thing sounds rowdy. Love the zoomies. Friend of mine put a corvair motor in a sand rail w a vw car trans (yes he flipped the pinion) ran good!
Gonna be awesome for Merlin’s birthday party!
The chrome side pipes remind me of Granpa's dragster from the Munsters.😂
Seeing a couple weeks ago the younger generation at MORR we're playing with sand rails, Fabrats now doing the same and now Rudy breaking out old metal.
"blue tooth air intake""😁 that thing just looks fun!!!
Yeah I noticed that the air filter is mounted up top. Maybe to keep mud or dirt from clogging?
Been waiting to see this footage. Love it
Haven't caught up with your channel in a while, but I remember on on Matt's when you were blasting by the gate.. Oh my, dangerously fun! 🤠
I think those front wheels are fairly desirable early to mid '60s magnesium dragster wheels. Coolness!
I forget the brand name.
@UberLummox
American Racing made them, but I don't know design name,
other than like 12 spoke spindles.
@@Thesaurcery4U2C Well done. Thanks!
The rocons tank looks like it needs another rehab. Where'd those bubbles come from 😅
Great episode. Great job. I’m not sure if you know but FabRats has been putting together some old VW powered rails/sand buggies. I smell competition at Sand Hollow in the near future. The Corvair powered buggies were fast and loud with straight pipes. Now everyone has LS powered long travel ones.
The suspension travel is unreal 😉😉🤣
Great project buggy!
Great video Rudy !!!!
This reminded me of me and my friends from the 80’s
Your gona have a he'll of a time tuning that 110 with 4 carbs🤯 I had a corsair corsa with the same set up always had problems with them..but when it ran good ,it was FAST good luck👍
Excellent video guys 👍
Ohh the forgotten project... Cullins C10
Who's Cullins? 😂
"What the crap dude!"
"Sorry!"
Had me rolling!
Nice to see some TerraTires (Wrnagler XTs?) again. Best off-road tire that Goodyear ever made.
I had one of these .. sortof .. in 1977 motorcycle wheeled downhill coaster mod. it was a sandrail, but my dad took my motor. i made due. sold it in the 90's no idea where it went from there.
Great new project! Hope you get it all done in time for Merlin's birthday bash! Sounded pretty good once you got it fired up. Good luck!!! 😃
great job again.
Great video
Jet Ski Jimmy is putting together a Morvair powered rail as well.
use a flat shovel under those tires to lift them into position. much easier lever...
Delicious. Imagine, if you will, the back end of that with a sharp angle from the rollover loop - a fastback vs the wagon shape it's got now. With a tuned and sweet running engine and the maintenance work done, that is gonna be a laugh rocket!

TONS OF FUN ! Ican see at the dunes flying through the air .🙂🚀🌠
You didn't really need to ask the question, "clean the gas tank or add more fuel?" when you see the carb looking like that.
I remember my first buggy wheelie, what a thrill.
Are those magnesium 12 spoke spindle mounts on the front?!?
Awesome video
Perfect. "Maple syrup" in the carbs that had to be cleaned out and you chose to leave the old gas in the tank 😅😅😅.
No surprise everything you tried to start in the yard has running problems.
Future content coming up. That's where the real entertainment is. 😅

Welcome to Matt's Corvair emporium. They have every part you need😂
SMILES!!!!!
Fun stuff, I hope that young lady that hangs out at Matt’s shop finally does more than grin and keep her hands in her pockets all the time… kinda weird
Like she is a token or something ..
What a great ride and you made it happen !!!!
I'm not sure how I feel about that station wagon design. It doesn't look right, but it also doesn't look like every other sandrail on the dunes.
Yet it can hold there people. That is definitely different.
YO Rudy, Pro Tip on the brakes....You don't really need to work on them, all they will do is slow you down....I think I see where Matt got optimistic personality! Thanks for the video.
cool!
I bet you may have a contender there can't wait to see
That was good for grins!
Sweet bro 🎉🎉🎉
Every time I see you guys testing cars etc on public streets, I think "Wow, here in Australia they'd lock you up and throw away the key for doing that!!!"
Man Rudy you better put some side crash bars on that damn thing
Okay. Time for an LS powered sand rail challenge.
Zack’s a pile of fun…..
LMAO - You took your life into your own hands driving that thing!
Buggies were the old version of the side by sides, I'd rather have the buggies than the cheap side by side
