    this is so helpful. Mine never develop in the Pacific NW - too cool and they just mold from the rain. Hoping I can find seed by color somewhere! Thanks for your wonderful instructions and video which make it easy to see what ripe seed should look like.

    Are they self fertile? Or can you hand pollinate?

    When you say the lighter colors ones didn't develop, do you mean they weren't pollinated or they weren't left on the plant long enough to mature or something else? Thanks!

    If you save the seed of a yellow for instance, will you get a yellow strawflower from the seed? or could it be any color? Thanks!

      If it didn't cross with another color it should be yellow. I save seeds from mine all the time and usually get the correct color even with multiple colors blooming.

    I live in the uk and I have a couple of straw flowers.
    When the centres of the flowers turned to fluff balls I took them off but there were no seeds inside, why did this happen?

    • @carriesgardeningchannel856

      It's possible it didn't pollinate or the seeds are stuck inside the bottom of the head.

      Hi Carrie, Thank you for responding to my email, that was really good of you. I have had more bees in my garden this year than over the last three years, that is what I don’t understand. Well, there is still time this year for something to happen but if I’m unlucky this year will they survive the winter in a twin walled green house so that I can try again next year or will I be better of buying the seeds and trying again in the future.
      I love collecting seeds from flowers in my garden and growing them myself, I have managed to collect a lot of different seeds to sow next spring, but the straw flowers are so unusual I really was looking forward to collecting the seeds.
      Kind regards
      Shiralee Mowbray

    Is there a simple way to remove the fuzzy bits?

    • @carriesgardeningchannel856
      @carriesgardeningchannel856  ปีที่แล้ว

      I put my strawflower seeds in envelopes or small jewelry plastic bags that seal and I notice that the seeds will usually fall to the bottom. I don't know if that will help you or not. If you use a plastic bag just make sure the seeds and everything else are really dry before you put them in there. I hope that helps you!

    thanks for the video :) why is it necessary to remove the fuzzy white parts from the seed? won't that just disintegrate?

    • @carriesgardeningchannel856
      @carriesgardeningchannel856  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your welcome. If you let the fuzzy white parts it can cause mold when you plant them.

      @@carriesgardeningchannel856 thank you... I had many "seeds" that I harvested last fall, in the fashion you described, but without the fuzzies, they are microscopic. I 'm going to plant them anyways to see what happens but I think none of them developed seeds :/
