      I enjoy your videos, they give me ideas to when I build my own kart. Have too many irons in the fire right now, but I do have a kart already drawn up when I have the space and time to build it.

    Removing the 7" and going to a 6" driven is one thing, but you need to change the gearing when you do that. As you found out, you don't have ANY low end. Those rear tires are tall.
    You need a Much, much bigger rear sprocket to compensate for the small 6" driven pulley.
    Also that carb has adjustable jets. No need to "rejet" it. Fix the air filter for more air flow and simply screw the needle on the bottom of the carb in an out for high speed mixture.
    For the budget build aspect, you would be much better off just cleaning up both Comet clutches and buying a belt. Belts are way cheaper than a $100 torque converter swap that destroys low end.
    A lot of us are interested in budget builds but when someone making a video starts throwing a couple hundred dollars worth of new parts at it, the budget aspect is gone. A true budget guy would clean and use the clutches, buy a belt, drill the air box, drill the muffler or simply screw in a sausage muffler, tie the gov, adjust the carb and ride it. No need to for all those new parts.
    I and others would like to see a TRUE low budget build without all the expensive parts. I understand you get the parts free from sponsors, but we don't... We need to see CHEAP ways to have max fun. Can you do that for your viewers?

    How to make a Tecumseh faster in three easy steps:
    Step one take all bolt holding engine to go kart
    Step two remove engine
    Step three.... this is the most important step..... toss is off of a cliff or down a mountain. For maximum effect try to rent a plane and drop it out of that.

    And yes thoes karts like to hold water lol. Honestly mine sat outside it's whole life in wny and I the only thing on the axle that gave me a problem was the drum but an oxyaceletyne torch and press helped a lot haha

    I’m glad your keeping the engine. It keeps some of the originality of the gokart. I think it’ll be mean when you legitimately remove the governor and jet the carburetor. And also the gearing is completely wrong. That’s why it seems so low on torque. The bigger 7 inch pulley has a much lower gear ratio than the 6 inch. I’d fix the old one up and throw it back on and see if that helps too

    Awesome deal for $100. We are going to remake the front steering and suspension on ours too, it is horrible. Also the rear axle is a huge pain we threw a gx390 on it and had to flip the sprocket. Look forward to seeing what you do with the front end.

    I put 24in heavy tread quad tires on mine and it was a world of difference in the front end feel. Gonna have to upgrade the ball joints on the front too. Too many jumps on the stock ones and the front will collapse.

    I picked up a barebones Yerf-dog last week....barebones:...No roll cage, no engine, homemade seat with the steering wheel broken off.....oh...and the basket area on the back was cut off too. I'm glad I caught what you did and said in this video about the shocks, but I had it in my mind to widen the engine area and put a 670cc predator motor on it, along with larger tires all the way around. But I think i'm wanting to redo the whole front suspension and rear suspension area on it. as well as put a barrel gas tank on it.

    • @oldarkie3880
      @oldarkie3880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also picked up a barebones Yerf-dog frame 3202 I think. I spent $1,200 in parts to get it going. Not sure it was worth it.

  • @haroldfisher2256
    @haroldfisher2256 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is what I picked up for $100.00 I found a 30 series torque converter from Walmart and ended up paying $53. and some change. After turning in receipts and getting money back for getting groceries there we ended up paying $9.93 for the thing. Whats funny is it was Christmas time and to get it shipped to my house before then they wanted $225.00. needless to say that didn't happen. We still received it in 4 days so I was riding on Christmas day. I did have to get a new carburetor for it.That cost me $35.00. Not bad for a budget build.

  • @frigglebiscuit7484
    @frigglebiscuit7484 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    be warned: these things turn HORRIBLY. btw, if you put a predator on it, you have to flip the sproket. i put a 212 on the stock 7" converter and it can pull the front tires off the ground if i bump the gas. xD

    • @frigglebiscuit7484
      @frigglebiscuit7484 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also, you have to take the chain off every time you change the cvt belt when you predator swap it.

  • @donsscooters

    Yall messed up with the small converter. The motor is fine, you just need to put the old, better converter on there with a new belt. Its geared way too high for off road with that little driven clutch. I'd adjust the gov for more throttle, open or replace the air cleaner and push away from the table earlier. LOL. A cheap Mikuni knock off will make a big difference for about $20. You guys could make this great cart for almost no money. However. I did enjoy and appreciate your video.

    I had one of thoes its a yerfdog #3203 I broke the shit out of the frame haha in the rear the upper bar that the shock bolts to is weak as well as the whole section where that bar goes to the frame including the bars that are next to the driver seat and wrap around the whole junction there is weak I'd recommend u gusset it. But other than that and the junk techumesh that is on it , it's a good kart I had a modded 212 hemi on mine and it was a beast. I yanked the 212 off did a complete build on it big cam, billet rod, as valves, lot of port work, ultra light flywheel for drag racing, 26mm mikuni and a bully clutch And it's going on a drag mini bike

    • @fuckheridid420
      @fuckheridid420 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes I had mine brake where the shock's mount and all I was doing was picking the rear end up to move luckily I wasn't in the wood riding or I'd would of been sol because the reason end was touching the ground ending up replacing the whole bar and adding four wheeler shock's to it 😁😁

    Hey red beard I’m going to be swapping the engine on my Coleman kt196 with a predator this weekend!!!! The stock engine came with a torque converter already installed is it safe to just use that one ? And also what’s the difference between a 30 series and a 40 series torque converter and which is better ? (Sorry for all the questions still noob )

    • @RedBeardsGarage
      @RedBeardsGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would you want to swap to a Predator? The cvt on that kart should be fine. The difference between a 30 and 40 series is a 40 is designed for the bigger engines. 8hp and up you would use the 40 series

    • @AirCooledArmy
      @AirCooledArmy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is the same frsme cars and cameras has. They put a 9hp suburu engine on theres and put it against there murray with 420 on it and the suburu beats it. Id say build a resl honda for it or follow suit as cars and cameras did. Find an old generator and grab uts suburu engine.
    To adjust camber, look into building a dual aarm setup. Sortof like front ends RatherBeWelding did on his green dual predator 212 kart

      You may be able to find a go kart with a bad motor locally and putting an electric start motor on it like the DuroMax XP7HPE. Craigslist and facebook marketplace are likey your best chances of finding something.

    Hey I love my yerf dog. Can I buy that 7" pulley?

  • @joegroom3195
    @joegroom3195 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great find! Is the distance between the motor shaft and jack shaft the same on that existing plate as it is on the GPS one? The belt could be slipping because it's a shorter distance. Cleaning the pulleys and replacing the springs and belt on the comet may have been cheaper but definitely a lot more work. Keep up the vids!

      Yeah we have a budget build coming up where we rebuild the cvt on the kart to keep it as cheap as possible. We didn't have the parts to do it for this build
