I had a glass this weekend. That is magic sauce!! Actually liked it better than the Russel 15 when we tried them side by side. I'm normally a Russel fanboy so that was a shock!
@@chays19751 nice I’ve taken this year off drinking to focus on health goals. So looking forward to it. Also found a bottle of Russ 15 so I’ll have to a blind when I reintroduce
It is funny how some bourbons don’t do well in blinds, but you love them. I find Blantons amplifies the bitter notes in other bourbons so that they don’t compete well in blinds. I find drinking bourbon on its own is a much better method than a blind to determine if I like something and how I would rate it (also reference Four Roses Effect).
My favorite bottle I've bought this year (though it's probably technically from last year) was Redwood Empire Emerald Giant cask strength. Not a contender for any awards, but maybe my favorite available/value whiskey of the year is Green River full proof.
Thanks for the great content as always Matt! (Matt-lantic should be in the Webster dictionary now!) How about the Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson B?
Limestone Farms Private Stock and you don't have to hunt for it since it's available on the website. SLB is putting it in their end of the year tastings against the big dogs.
You need to try the 13th Century Cask Strength. I have had it in 3 blinds with some giants and it has won all three times. You can get it at Fisher's in GJ.
Any chance we could get another video that would be like an *alternative* video that would also include your favorite barrel king releases this year with these? or if not a whole video, just a brief mention of how the top ones stack up against this list during one of your live streams? Always curious on your opinion on how they stack up in the context of the other whiskeys you think are great :)
That russels 15 is bourbon of decade. Coy hill no.2. Eligah B517 The jack 10 was better for almost everyone in my tasting group. Your list was great nice to see the high west make cut. I cant think of much you missed i liked the beam black 7 year reminded me of springfield batch bookers which was also very nice.
I really loved RR15. But I compared it to some unicorns and felt it didnt hold up to those. However, it smashed RR13 and some other Russell's stuff. It is top 3 whiskeys of the year for SURE for me. I have managed to have it in, no joke, 5 blind flights including 2 double blind flights.
I am an avowed Turkey fanboy. It is difficult to overstate how good it is. When compared side by side to average RE store picks there really is no comparison. Having said all that, the 2023 George T Stagg is on another level. It is just insanely good. I’d love to be able to blind RR15, GTS and one or two others like King of Kentucky and a Four Roses LE for example.
@ADHDWhiskey it hit my area in July! It was not around for very long either! I was lucky enough to get a bottle and it is amazing in my opinion! Hopefully you get the chance to snag a bottle I would like to see what you think of it
Just tried it last weekend. Decadent! A truly special pour. Also tried the RR15 side by side with Single Rickhouse CNF. The RR15 reminded me of an überoaky RRSiB, and while it had a better nose, IMHO the CNF is still a superior pour. Cheers!
Hey Matt, have you ever dropped a bottle of whiskey, and if so was it something super good? And were you super sad about it? I feel like trying to film, and grabbing bottles is an underrated talent, and I would definitely screw it up!
My apologies to you for the other night. Love you and your channel. Been watching since your days as a bus driver reviewing whiskeys at your kitchen table. I was frustrated that I could not comment on your live video without buying Super Chat and had just paid secondary to get my first Old Forester Birthday Bourbon. Waited 2 hours to learn a bottle of something I cannot buy in Indiana beat my $500 Birthday Bourbon. This is the most I have ever paid for a bottle. I was devastated and made my final comment. Extrene Apologies to you Sir. You frickin' rock and I am one of your biggest longest watching fans.
Old Forester 1924 actually exists?! I heard about it, and then it seemed like all trace of it disappeared! They didn't even mention it in the distillery tour! And New Riff! I bought a bottle of the Single Malt at that distillery. It's amazing, and I'm not even a single malt guy! Has a savory note that I love!
Brook hill 11yr rye the WANT release is one of my favs. JD 10yr btc 3 i like better than JD 12yr btc 2, wish i got the 12 btc 1. Not really a huge ECBP fan, but i like b524 over c923, same with the Larceny b524. OF 1924 is ok. Good, but not worth $115-125. Ben Holladay soft red wheat rickhouse proof is pretty damn good. I got OF 8yr 2023 and 10yr 2024, i didnt open 10yr 2024 because i heard quite a few not so good things about it, the 2023 8yr and 10yr are said to be better than 2024 10yr. The 2023 8yr is even quite a bit darker. 8yr is pretty damn good. Found North Hell Diver, as well as batch 008 and 009 are all amazing. Little Book 8 is really damn good, but wasnt crazy about the other Bookers this year.
I’ve been disappointed with the bullet 12 year. And I’m a big fan of 95 rye and older whiskey. Falls flat. Barely any flavor. Mostly just simple apple notes. Nothing exciting. Maybe there is something wrong with the bottle I tried. Maybe it will open up in time.
After 10 years of collecting/tasting bourbon, I’m done. Current bourbon market is for the birds. Heyday was when you could find a Van Winkle, BTAC, Willett, and BMH pick for under 100. Current bourbons are subpar and melding into the same thing.
There are plenty of good bottles from Bardstown and Green River, as examples. I think just don’t buy the allocated or faux allocated. Plenty of great available whiskey.
Comments are good, so is your content. Keep at it man.
Found a birthday bourbon 🥃 yesterday at a local brick 🧱 and mortar for retail. Feel like I won already 💪🏻🥃

7:45 - 2mo later, they had at least 2 left. Thanks Matt for the recommendation! I can’t wait to crack one open.

Just saw that at a store by my house for $59. Was considering it, dang. It was the last one. That good huh?
Thanks Matt, I’m cleaning my windows while listening to this video. I needed that extra lil motivation to power through ❤
Baker’s 13, Maker’s Cellar Aged 2024, and Four Roses 2024 LE releases are all fantastic. Also the Heaven Hill Heritage 18 Year.
Stuff and Whisky did a blind of the RR15 and disco 12 and disco 12 came out on top 😮
Thanks for the great content as always Matt! (Matt-lantic should be in the Webster dictionary now!)
How about the Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson B?
Love the Kobe poster in the background
Your mannerisms have been living in my head rent free. Not to mention the single rickhouse drone
Ive never had most of those. I do like Ben Holladay for a wheated bourbon. I think JD SiB BP rye would make my top 5 so far this year.
Glad you're liking Rac Rye, Matt!
It's so good!
River Roots 18 yr, Remus 8 is pretty damn good this year, the Bardstown high wheat…lots of good stuff this year
Old Overholt 114 10 yr 👍😉
I’m a fan also of the Cab finished High West. The Chardonnay one not so much.
Would like to see a Sir Davis review!

This year, let’s give it to RR15, end of story

Bourbon of the decade? It came in last in a blind vs GTS 23, OF17 and a Haystack Needle 14yr.
A rye, but the 2024 Michter's 10-Year Rye is an absolute banger.
wait this is before allocation season? I already blew my budget!
They all sound good. 🎉
Did he get michters's cs rye?

I cannot believe we are just over 2 months from Matt becoming extremely ill…I mean the advent calendar
Can’t find any of those here except Bulleit Rye 12
I hope you gatvthe JD10-3…I thought it was excellent.
Have you been able to get your hands on the Murry Hill Club special release batch 4? I feel like it belongs on this list along with bardstown disco 12
I haven't seen it yet

@TheSanDiegan I have not been able to try the RR15 but CNF is one of the best pours I have ever had!
I can send you a sample of JD 10 yr batch 3 if you want. Also have JD 12 batch 01
Wish I could try/get any of those. 😢😢
“Matt-lantic Ocean”!🤣
And I felt lucky to get Bombergers & Shenk's.......

Hey Matt- have you tried Leopold bros.' 8yr bourbon yet?
Not yet!
@@ADHDWhiskey Go find you one! That's a crazy interesting bugger.
I suggest Little Book Ch.8
Agree!
That’s a fantastic pour, especially the Dill note…

Windler Vista
Cale Hollow
Disco 12
How about 2024 Bomburgers?
Little Book Chapter 8
Bardstown Discovery 12
Ebba Mountain
Fwiw I've found some JD SB BP that was better than JD10 this year 😅
Have you tried any Nashville Barrel stuff? They have some serious hitters, both bourbon and rye!

Jack 12 b2 crushes Jack 10 b3. Not even close. Kinda surprising for only 2 yrs difference, but everyone I’ve spoken to who’s tried both agrees
Did I miss Matt Madness???

I hear you can get Coy Hill if you start a TH-cam channel... :)
😆
Webster Fall
I scored a 50ml Dickel Tabasco! Saw a Pappy 23 for $4k and had to pass...
Shameful favors, delicious flavors
Bomburgers killed it this year. It also has one of the funnest meme abbreviations to do with a bomb and a little hamburger, so that’s cool.
💣 🍔
My local stores straight up act like they don’t get allocations….. owners take them ALL
Some local stores give the good ones a bad wrap. I have a local store that has a normal Eagle Rare sitting on an allocated shelf for nearly $200.
@@dforce23 Disgustingly greedy. There are two stores in my area that have Elmer T Lee for $449.99. Also disgustingly greedy.
We get 4 bottles of regular Buffalo trace every 3 months! No store picks, and jacked up prices… it sucks
The Patel cartel are the ones that double secondary prices, and the snobs are the ones that play dumb and hide it
Local store lost their license this spring over shipping liquor over state lines.
Screw 'em.
