    After owning all the Seki city K390 models and just getting a native 5, my favorite is still the delica4 (the first one I got, have it in m4 also). I think the native is good for carving wood and self defense but otherwise the delica is just the best knife Ive ever owned. Gave my sister an M4 delica and shes in love with it as much as I am.

    I will be curious to test both steels, in a 4 inches folder, very acute for maximum keen edge sharpening.
    After many years of collecting and sharpening, I am less interested in edge retention, medium is fine.
    CPM stainless have excellent feeling while sharpening (I own several S30V and S35VN), on a carbon tool steel... very interesting.
    Other "super steels" , by other steel producers with excessive huge amount of chrome were disappointing in extreme keen edge development.
    I prefer stainless with max 14% chrome or semi stainless D2 or carbon tool steels, always enriched with Vanadium.
    I still need to get more understanding about tungsten enrichment, effect on steel, seems positive.

    M4 is a personal favorite, but I also love K390

    Japanese Buhler k390 is amazing. Where it really outshines m4, is when you think it might need a sharpening, keep going and k390 will get a sec, third wind. You will have to stop and sharpen the m4.

      Okay interesting. I probably wouldn’t have noticed that unless I carried some m4 regularly too. Thanks for the info!

    Have a police 4 lw k390 and that fn thing came sharp AF. And it’s a great blade shape and geometry. Light for the size also.👍🏻

    I like the look of these scales. Some of these steels are obtainable at a good price if you can deal with the scales.

    Alright after you, Erica and Pete all raving about k390 i just pre-ordered a new spyderco leaf jumper. Was stoked to hear you prefer a little belly for edc cuz that what the leaf jumper has, cant wait to get it whenever they ship lol

    Hard to say from video, but it looked to me like the K390 did better before stropping, but the M4 stropped back a little better. I've got a Stretch 2 in K390 that was reground to 0.004" behind the edge. Talk about a laaaaaaser!

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy shit that’s thin as hell!!
      Yeah I think so too, K390 a little better before strop, M4 stropped back better though. Very similar though

    • @2Bstrifeless
      @2Bstrifeless 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Wow that's thin! How's it holding up? It's possibly my favorite steel. I'd love to hear what sort of work duty it handles that thin. Also, who'd you have do the regrind? I might want to go for something similar.

    • @BladeLabMiami
      @BladeLabMiami 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@2Bstrifeless I use it to break down cardboard, primarily. To be honest, it's really too thin. I think it needs a little more meat behind the edge to improve wear resistance. It's not BAD, but it doesn't hold an edge as well as K390 should. I actually bought it on the secondary market from a knife maker who had done the regrind himself. He doesn't do regrinds commercially.

    I haven't decided which steel I like more yet but I'm leaning m4 because the slight bump in toughness is more important to me than the slight loss of edge retention. Still testing both to see how the edges hold up. Right now my favorites are cruwear and magnacut, they're similar in performance but cruwear seems to take cutting dirty materials better. However things turn out I believe these are my top four in some order.
    Also the native 5 is great. It may be my favorite spyderco in hand.

  • @Sanchito209

    I have an M4 Shaman and a K390 Endura. Though I like the shaman better and carry it more often, the K390 seems to be much better imho. Can be a little more difficult to sharpen. But, I stink at sharpening so take that with a grain of salt.

    • @doodysdaggers

    I love m4 but in my exp k390 performs a little better. But imo m4 is a huge jump over the standard s30 v in every way and quite a bit tougher the m390 s99v ect and edge retention is not too fare behind if at all

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I’m leaning toward k390 as well. But it’s very close!

  • @astaschak

    I love my k390 wharncliffe delica but sometimes i feel like i should have bought the regular blade shape. It doesnt have that much belly so it does well in utility tasks and it pokes into stuff a little better with the tip but it does have enough of a belly to it that it does better at some of those edc tasks you mentioned. Delica is my most carried knife of all time my vg10 delica 4 is probably over a decade old at this point. I really like my straight spine stretch 2 and is also one of if not my favorite knife. Its hard to choose. I havent yet gotten a hold of a native 5 though. Its on my list but i dont know which one i want to get. S30v? Its familiar and a great steel, spy27? Havent used it im curious, do i go for the salt in magnacut? I dont like the yellow but i could dye it. Maybe s90v, or would i like the g10 version better or maybe i wait for a sprint run like a cruwear-micarta if it ever happens. Might settle on the salt to also try out magnacut.
