yes now the zombies woke up and see that gear change in 00.1 is good on paper but when they brake and all do its a 5000-20.000 euro fix on this cars..better raise the idle on a manual😂
I can say having heard a 599 in anger not 10 ft from me I can understand a part of his motivation. It's the most beautiful noise I think I've ever heard.
I can’t get past the engine: a Ferrari hand built v-12 with no turbo gimmickry. This engine in *anything* would rock, let alone a beautiful Italian GT coupe.
Even if he had imported a manual 599 from Germany, it would have doubled in value. To bad chris didn't, if he did, he would have owned two cars that actually gain value over time, GT3 RS 4.0 and manual 599.
I did the same thing as Chris, sold my chipped 996 turbo with GT3 suspension for a 599, in red. I also have the same problem as Chris, I love to drive it and have put on 14000 k's in 2 and a half years but I don't care, I would drive it every day but then it would add 25000k's per year and yes, cost a fortune in petrol. Cheers, Manyana
Congratulations on buying a Ferrari Chris. I was never really sure about the 599 but then I saw how fast it was on a track and my mind changed. Great car
Most of the world cannot afford this wonderful car, including me. However, I have never been so happy for a person who can afford it than I am for Chris. If a person can "deserve" car of this caliber, certainly Chris must qualify. After all, he clearly loves all things automotive and Ferrari must appreciate (even if secretly) one of its masterworks landing in the hands of a true enthusiast. More power to you, Chris! Enjoy it in good health.
Love your reviews Chris. No car pushing here. Honesty and what I see as wise perspective on car ownership in general and a careful distaste for overt tech nonsense of newer cars. If ferrari doesn't let you drive their cars anymore, it might have something to do with that and your praises for some of their older models especially. Consider it a compliment. I'm sure Enzo would be proud :) Cheers
If you want to read why Chris will probably not be invited to drive a factory Ferrari you should search "How Ferrari Spins" for his Jalopnik article. Well written & cheeky but I do not think Maranello was all too amused...
I like his last comment, he wants to experience many different cars. I think that's a great disposition, and a satisfying one. It's not all about having a more valuable car. It ultimately comes down to the experience. Great review
Thanks for sharing your beast with us Chris. The one point you make about the drive experience of a full manual transmission vs. flappy paddles, is exactly why I opted for the gates and a third pedal )) All my cars are manual trans for that reason, and unfortunately it's nigh impossible to even buy a decent car today with a manual trans.
I love the muscle car look of the Ferrari 599, yet with the performance, engine, luxury interior, and space age controllers of a super car! *sssssssssssssssssssssssssssEX!*
Scarred of selling a stick 599 one day? From the persepctive of 2016: you would have made a fortune. Why don't Ferrari built cars with a stick anymore - it's a shame!
+okumonux because those who can actually afford to buy a ferrari dont give a rat's ass about stick. they just show off. And the real car nuts like me can just dream of having one.
sadly, Ferrari's image and mantra of late has changed from driving experience and soul to F1 and technology. i can only imagine a limited edition run of F12's with a gated stick. they would sell out in minutes but sadly, probably to collectors, not proper car nuts.
Watch his Joe Rogan podcast, he couldn't afford the 4.0's £1000 a month payments anymore so he had to sell it. Then a few months later he suddenly had the money from new jobs and thought he had always wanted the 599 so why not. He said he was annoyed with how the 4.0's price had shot up but he still made a good profit. He also said he views cars as experiences to own, so he's done the 4.0 and it was all about what was next.
S Miller £1000 a month doesn't seem that crazy, that's only 20k USD/year. Every one of my seven siblings including me could afford those payments. What was the 4.0's msrp for them to be that low, unless he just got a 10 year finance plan or something.
Now THAT is a classy daily driver Ferrari! The lines on this car scream "gentleman" and it's the best color apart from dark jade green (I know I may be weird). I don't usually comment but wow, congratulations and well done, very very tasteful! I love your videos buddy!!
This car turns corners like a mid-engine sex pony! It is wild that Ferrari can design such performance in the 599. This is why McLaren picked Ferrari to steal from lol.
I’m tired of people complaining about not having a manual, Jesus man. I’m sure there are some people that miss the horse and carriage too but you don’t see them whining
I fully agree. I'm pretty sure most of them have no clue what they're talking about. They possibly have negative memories of the slow "automatic transmission" dating from the 70/90es and of the early paddle shifters coupled with a single clutch gearbox which sometimes happened to be slower than a good manual shiftgear.
One word to describe his videos : Captivating. He allows all of us to feel what he feels, through his emotions and proper use of the English dictionary :)
Gorgeous video once again Chris. And i like how the sense of speed was portrayed here and how the colour balances in the clip went with that of the vehicle. Nice touches all over.
Had Chris been able to hold onto both cars for another year or two he woulda had nearly half a mill in the bank haha! In fact include the testarossa in there and he probably would hit that mark! Bonkers cars!
Most of the people putting their two sense in this issue act as if you ever sat or driven a Ferrari never mind own one.So pleas just watch the video and enjoy, leave the comments to the big boys who actually have had the pleasure of knowing first hand what they are saying.
Chris deserves a Ferrari - love his reviews and delivery - feels like your talking to a real person rather than some marketing geek who has to review a car
Why is Everyone hating on the Ferrari, I've never owned either as I'm the next best thing to being homeless but I have been on a trackday and driven driven a Ferrari f430 and a 911 turbo. The Ferrari is so much more special!! Can see the 911 being better everyday
***** I don't know where you live, but that's literally the exact opposite of the perception I've gotten and heard my entire life. To the point where I've literally heard women point at guys in Porsches (on multiple occasions) and say something to the effect of, "that guy must have a tiny penis."
mechmat12345 I used to point and laugh every time I saw a Porsche, now I just think it's ugly. I've seen a few comments about a Porsche looking like a foot! LOL a foot!
In Italy where the car is made it's not seen as such. Typically you'll see the older gray haired man cruising through the countryside. Let's not let the punks who buy the cars to compensate for any insecurities ruin the cars, because it's not the manufacturer's fault and not in their control who buys the cars. I'm well travelled and have family in Germany and Italy, having spent considerable amounts of time in both countries. You don't see many spoiled rich kids in either country driving these cars as commonly as it is seen in America. I've been in the US for many years now. To some, the ones who are quick to judge and criticize, the young man or any many for that matter with a Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, and the like are seen as rich spoiled snobs who are just insecure. Yes there are owners like that but that shouldn't ruin the reputation of the respective makers or the drivers who legitimately drive the cars for the amazing experience they offer and can appreciate them for what they are. As it's said, let's not let a few bad apples ruin the whole bunch. In this video Chris is enjoying the car the way it should be. He has acknowledged on multiple occasions the car is not practical for use in say London for example. But at the end of the day it's his money, his preference, and ultimately his choice. He and nobody else who makes purchases is not the least bit hurting any one of us. I think we have more important matters in society that are worthy of bitching about.
I must admit I wasn't the biggest 599 fan until I first saw this video, just to me A Ferrari with a V12 is like God with wheels, still take take the F12 over this any day tho
I watch a lot of car reviews and you do the best job. Everyone just says ohhh it's so fast about every car, but you give a good sense of what it's like to actually own one. I also like the fact that you're open about the fact that it's a stupid amount of money to spend on a car, but you don't give a shit lol. That is awesome.
The Porsche foot lovers freaking out because of Ferrari, due to their own insecurities, are much like the Toyota fanboys spamming Lexus videos/forums. It would be entertaining... if any of us gave a damn about Porsche.
Chris, I think your too cool to drive the 599, which I think is for old men. Ferrari is certainly cool, but there is no comparison to the purity of the 997 GT3 RS, being a 997 GT3 owner, in my opinion.
I've watched this video about a dozen times with the volume maxed, my chin in my hand and my eyes dreamy on those chassis lines. I think I just may watch it again.
In Chris's situation, I would've bought a used GT3 or an R8 for that price...I would've thought that Chris would know better than to through himself from a financial burden into a financial hellhole.
You know what's really fucking annoying? What's really fucking annoying is people not starting sentences properly, usually beginning "that moment when..."! Artful, what job do you do to "make bank"?
Sometimes when you want to taste the best in life money comes second. Be it a nice suit you feel good in or a Ferrari that every time you sit in and rev that engine makes all the worries go away and you feeling like a king.
bezor Ta I completely understand that. But seeing as he is someone who drives Ferraris often despite his "ban", it doesn't seem like a good idea to buy something he cannot afford.
Interesting decision. I just sold my 997 GT3 RS 4 litre in favour of a Ferrari 488 GTB as I felt the 4 litre had peaked and the Ferrari was under valued. I am now enjoying the 488 so much it doesn't really matter any more about which one holds a price better. I am driving it so much I will probably also get 20p for it when I sell it but the fun was worth it. Both being totally fabulous cars in such completely different ways.
I guarantee he will regret selling his Porsche GT3 RS 4.0< as it is the last of a dying breed of manual transmission super cars. Flappy paddles are for pansies or ladies, real men drive manuals. Automatic transmissions are oh soooooo boring to drive.
+LeonRFpoa that quite a while ago, i believe 2years or so. he said ferrari unfairly prepaire their cars before journo's drive them so they give better reviews than the cars they actually sell. which is true, and not only for ferrari but multiple cars.
How are you making so much money that you can afford this, even if it's used by just blogging and reviewing cars!? If anything, that's "lunacy" not tye car! Lol but nice review :)
Jealous over Chris... they want him to only own their Porsche brand, to validated that trench foot looking junk. We are both better looking than Porsche.
He wanted a real super car and as good as Porsche is, it's no Ferrari. And this one is not for young drivers looking only for racing but rather a comfy GT for mature buyers and longer drives.
Mr. Harris, I love you even more for your statement at the beginning @0:20 I like your opinion- you won't hate a car even if you don't like a company. Thank you for not being such a badge snub as Jay Leno. I personally love Ferrari, I don't have problem with people saying they don't like Ferrari cars, but only valid if they've driven one first. Same case every Brand! Every car model are different, irrespective to brand. Heritage is something that is only until yesterday. Today is, what today is!
It is a sad reflection of the Ferrari owners of today that nobody bought a manual in the UK. The cost of the base car was in fact quite a bargain even when new, but everybody added £50k worth of unnecessary crap like £20k flapper gearbox, £7k sound systems and £3k shields on the wings. The manual versions today are so rare they fetch £500k plus.LOL!
I love the 599, its always been one of my favorite cars. And up until the F12 came out, I think this was probably one of the best all around cars you could buy in my opinion.
I don't understand all this hating. Porsche or ferrari...99,9% of us will never drive either of those. They are very different but both absolutely amazing. Chris does the only right thing taste and savour them both-what could ever be wrong with that?
Chris needs to re-adjust his thinking ... in the video he worries about putting miles on the car and ruining it's resale value ... when he should be thinking about driving the wheels off it for the next 500,000 miles and having the highest mileage supercar in the world. I know if I owned it I'd drive it everywhere for any reason.
You lost some respect from me getting rid of the 4.0 RS, but their are certainly worse cars you could have bought, and you're still the best journalist.
Sam, I have owned both and the DB9 is a bit of Clydesdale compared to the 599 thoroughbred in the performance dept. It may look more beautiful but dynamically not on the same page, maybe not even the same book!
I love how you have changed from a track racing monster to a much more subtle GT car, personally not the Ferrari of my choice but a mighty fine GT car by any means Chris, also never saw this car in Grigio Silverstone before and i do agree it looks fantastic and suits the 599 better than I could have imagined :)
I think it's pretty childish that Ferrari banned Chris from driving their new cars because he said he didn't like the company. But hey ho. The 550, 575 and 599 are probably my favourite modern Ferrari's, along with the F355 too. The engine in the GTB sounds incredible though, less shouty and brash compared with the GTO's tuned motor. Loved the video Chris, as always.
man chris is on a strike on what he buys and sells. first he sold the 4.0 that now worths 4 times the money that he sold it for, and he says he didn't buy a manual 599 because he wouldn't be able to sells it, and now the manual 599s go for 3-4 times the price of the regular ones... anyhow great video by the best car jurnalist
Most people who buy an expensive supercar don't want something half the price using a very similar design. I think 50% of driving a supercar is that very special feeling you get when you know you're being noticed by everyone else on the road.
No manuals at all delivered in the UK? I wonder if any were delivered in Australia or any other left-hand-traffic country? Apparently a right-hand-drive 599 with a manual would be VERY valuable indeed!
I agree with been denied the real driving experience without 3 pedals and a gear stick, im sentimental like that two, but padle shifts are just on there own on track and at speed
"Got a bit scared [of buying a manual 599] and thought I'd never be able to sell it one day."
Manual 599s are now 5+ times as valuable as automatic 599s!
he was referring to an imported car.....

Any V12 Ferrari sounds fantastic
I can’t get past the engine: a Ferrari hand built v-12 with no turbo gimmickry. This engine in *anything* would rock, let alone a beautiful Italian GT coupe.
How is a turbo a "gimmick"? Think you need to look up the definition.

"that's what I want from car ownership; as many different experiences as possible." -- a great quote
always impressed with the clutches in these super cars. launch control with over 600hp at the wheel connecting in a second, absolutely brutal
What's so impressive? My Ferrari clutch went at 23k miles...that's pathetically low for a modern clutch and i hardly did hard launches.
VERY good looking and elegant Ferrari.
Chris Harris must be ballin'. The cheapest 599 here in Canada is $200,000.
His gt3 rs 4.0 was worth more then the 599 so it was cheap in relative terms
Luckily in europe prices are more agreeable!
Have a look at the description, the Porsche was on finance apparently. And I imagine so is this Ferrari.
sauberbeast And that matters because?
dlhussain81 Uh because there is a difference buying a car outright and buying it on finance..

so you sold your 911 GT3 RS 4,0 for a 599 GTB? i wouldnt have made that decision
Well when you get to make that decision, let us know. Otherwise... lol.
Why not? I'm sure the 599 is a better all-rounder.
RS Bro LOL
At the end of the day, it's a boring Porsche. Nobody takes notice of someone owning a Porsche, but a Ferrari they do.
Josh Sullivan Absolutely correct.
Chris is just amazing.his commenting skills are the only matched by his equally impressive driving !!
Dont worry about it bro...he's the best!!! he probably has a few gigs through his journalist connections...the people love him man
1750 kg? Heavy ass mama
You cant denied the Italian origin with this big ass
Sal sean ahahahah make bank.
Da Ca
He sure is!
and there I go thinking I got a nice car in my bmw 328i... oh well maybe next life
And there I go thinking I have a nice car in my 11 Accord coupe lol😉
I drive a 328i as well and I know exactly how you feel XD
328 guys can joke about it. now talk to a 335 guy and they have a harder time with it.
A bmw straight 6 is one of life’s great pleasures. I own 2. Just rent a Korean 4 cylinder car. You’ll come running back to the e90.
no this life! read up how to make money
Well done Chris, nicely done.
I guarantee he will regret selling his Porsche GT3 RS 4.0< as it is the last of a dying breed of manual transmission super cars.
Flappy paddles are for pansies or ladies, real men drive manuals.
Automatic transmissions are oh soooooo boring to drive.
"Real men..." You wouldn't know...
dis car cuddent even keep up wiv my costa coz i dun mods.
what on earth is a Costa?
Brady Lillington itz a car u numnut
Maybe if you spoke English instead of Chav i might be able to understand you.
English please.
HAHA! your spelling is so bad there's a 'Translate' button. Real inventive insult there! I'm so offended! :O
ferarri blacklisted you why?
lol
+LeonRFpoa that quite a while ago, i believe 2years or so.
he said ferrari unfairly prepaire their cars before journo's drive them so they give better reviews than the cars they actually sell. which is true, and not only for ferrari but multiple cars.
"i bought a Ferrari", what a humble man
I've never been a Ferrari guy, the 599 changed my mind.
Chris, I envy you; beautiful car by the way.
How are you making so much money that you can afford this, even if it's used by just blogging and reviewing cars!? If anything, that's "lunacy" not tye car! Lol but nice review :)
I love how all the chat is about how he could afford the car. Luls, people get jealous too easy
Jealous over Chris... they want him to only own their Porsche brand, to validated that trench foot looking junk.
We are both better looking than Porsche.
That's the most boring Ferrari I have ever seen. I would have kept the Porsche
It's a tasteful Ferrari, not a boring one.
He wanted a real super car and as good as Porsche is, it's no Ferrari. And this one is not for young drivers looking only for racing but rather a comfy GT for mature buyers and longer drives.
Porsches look more boring
Look more closely,
Porsches look like flattened Beetles.
Mr. Harris, I love you even more for your statement at the beginning @0:20
I like your opinion- you won't hate a car even if you don't like a company.
CHRIS HARRIS AS THE 4th TOP GEAR PRESENTER
It is a sad reflection of the Ferrari owners of today that nobody bought a manual in the UK. The cost of the base car was in fact quite a bargain even when new, but everybody added £50k worth of unnecessary crap like £20k flapper gearbox, £7k sound systems and £3k shields on the wings. The manual versions today are so rare they fetch £500k plus.LOL!
I love the 599, its always been one of my favorite cars. And up until the F12 came out, I think this was probably one of the best all around cars you could buy in my opinion.
Congrats on the purchase Chris but I fear you are going to spend more on tyres than you did on the car.Keep having fun and keep on reviewing.
I know if I owned it I'd drive it everywhere for any reason.
i love chris harris hes professional concise and says it as it is and hes a top bloke good luck with the 599 chris
Best car journalist on the planet. Great job, Chris!
My question, why white frontplate, and yellow rearplate? Does not harmonize. Yellow of course matches the emblems.
Chris, if you do another test in Wales, head down Gower. Some tremendous roads down here.
Did the artsy camera/sound guys from Top Gear produce /Drive? This is such good stuff.
I actually want to swap a Porsche for one of these but want to do a manual conversion. Worried about residual value though
No manuals at all delivered in the UK? I wonder if any were delivered in Australia or any other left-hand-traffic country? Apparently a right-hand-drive 599 with a manual would be VERY valuable indeed!
I agree with been denied the real driving experience without 3 pedals and a gear stick, im sentimental like that two, but padle shifts are just on there own on track and at speed
i love this guys attitude towards cars..........dead honest.
Good review.
Glad to see you still miss the manual stick.
It does add to the driving experience like you say.
Cheers
