I couldn't agree more! I have the 2018 elantra sport with 45k miles and still love it! I was looking at the 2023 N models, and while they look aggressive, they tried too hard to make it look futuristic. Personally, I feel like the 17-18 trims look classy and not overdone.

We have a 2016, so an MD Elantra, with a little over 130,000 miles on it.
It's an SE, so a base trim, bought December 11th, 2017 with 43,000 miles on it.
So 6 1/2 years later, it's been a good car.

I love my 18 Elantra sport, sadly i got rear ended last month and luckily it wasn’t a total. Can’t wait to get it back im in a Nissan rental right now and hate it. I really feel like this elantra sport body was the most classy and I hope it does become a collector later down the line.

they should have kept this body style for 2019 to 2020 and just tweaked the chassis making it even better than wasted money on a refresh.. but Hyundai doesn't listen to the Loyal customers just motor journalists.. I'm on my 4th Elantra they should've called me before making that bad decision.. If they had brought that i130N race back to North America that would have been epic.. but now they're just into funky trends 😢

2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport. It's a sexy beast. It's stood on it's own. Still better looking than Elantra N. Mark my words within few years, This Elantra Sport will be collector Edition. It's very hard to find nowadays. I luv mine.

I'm late to the party in seeing this video but wanted to thank you for your video and your honest experience with your/girlfriends car. It's good to see that its was well maintained and virtually problem free.
I have a 2018 Elantra GT Sport, (hatchback) which I bought new and have had just over 5 years.
I love the look of the sport (sedan) and was contemplating buying one but wanted the practicality of a hatchback instead.
Its out of warranty now, with 90,000 kms, so I'm happy to hear there's no issues with these cars as long as they're cared for and maintained properly.
I think this is the best looking Elantra sedan Hyundai has ever had. Way better looking than the current version.
This car has a timeless look which will age well. Whenever I see one, it turns my head. I especially love the look of the wheels.
Thanks again for posting this video.

Love the vid, even more because my Sport dct appears exactly as this one does, Galactic grey, with same lip spoiler. I was attracted to these from the first time I walked up on the 2017 Sport at the auto show. In march of 2018 I went to my local dealer to drive a new manual grey Sport and ended up begged to become the owner of it for less than 20k, but had to decline for I had just bought a house 4 months prior. It was painful to pass on that great of a deal on one. I ended up finding one in april 2020 170 miles from me with 24k on the clock. These cars have an amazingly balanced suspension tune, looks, and are a conical intake, tune, and catless dp away from making power they have no right to for so cheap. Mine shares daily duties with my 07 Si and stays in the garage when its snowy, so it's only got 36k yet. The 1.6t surprises you before mods, after just intake and dp, theirs so much more beef as revs clmb that I relish pissing off every average car who dares to challenge me on the highway. I'm not even bothering with a 91 tune and it's a certified riot to play with when you want to go fast! I think I get alot of people rolling up on my Nline badged tail, see the spoiler, and want to test me. All the first, second gear hesitation and stuttering weirdness, curiously completely disappeared after installing the downpipe, which leads me to believe that it was not the trans tuning ,but an engine breathing, throttle map issue alll along. That made me that much happier that the car would accelerate much more freely and smoothly on tip in from first through second gear and feels more like a normal torque converter taking off. The Sport, or the new 1.6t cars are a great enthusiast car value. Cheers to a great car

That’s awesome. I agree, that’s why I bought my 23 Kona n-line with the 1.6 and awd. It performs well with the expectations, that the sport started.! I follow the Hyundai Elantra Sport Owners page on Facebook.

I know you don’t have a lot of views yet but I really appreciated your review! I’ve personally owned an 2013 Elantra GT, 2016 Elantra limited, and most recently a 2021 Veloster N. I’ve always really enjoyed the 17/18 year for the Elantra sport, a beautiful car. The first time I saw it I wasn’t even sure what car or model I was looking it!

I have the same one. a 2018 ES DCT in Galactic Gray, and i have 111k miles and its amazing, I did have to have the turbo and motor replaced at 102k and 104k. and the dual clutch assembly (not the transaxle) had been changed, the AC unit as well recently, and I replaced the front pads at 70k the rears at 107k and i still have the original rotors. I also have it tuned by SXTH and it is FBO, and it IS as fast as my new 2022 Elantra N DCT in Performance Blue. Also the "Shudder" is because it IS a Dual Clutch, the vehicle is engaging the clutch. IT operates like a regular manual, not an automatic with a torque converter...

How do you like this car as far as reliability goes? Ended up going with the Corolla SE since it’s got that Toyota reliability, and naturally aspirated cars are just overall more reliable. But I’m not gonna lie I actually think that ELANTRA sport. It looks like a fun commuter. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one if it’s got that reliability I’m looking for.

I have a 18 Elantra sport, 5 year this october, original owner, I work for a Toyota dealer. Would take this over the corolla. Key things are do intake valve cleaning and run the best synthetic oil you can find (amsoil, redline). I'm modded and pushing 330-340 HP no problem, rock solid. I got mine brand new for 19k, otd for 21k at a dealer named Ricart in Columbus Ohio. I would not pay a premium for a Corolla or a civic. Wish they were not playing games with pricing on the manual would've gotten that( can run higher torque), no problem with the dct.

    • @joebrown9621

Dude i would say if you need just a commuter the Corolla is fine.. however if you want that extra punch especially if u live in an area with narrow roads and passing lane it's night and day vs Corolla, if you're passing a semi one can and the other can't😅 that kinda vibe.. reliability is actually pretty good my Vin says mine was built in Korea zero issues so far and i drive mine very aggressively but service 5K or 6 months which ever comes first.. the 5 years mark i did the coolant and gearbox that's all the extras i have done

My 2019 Elantra sport with DCT they had to replace the clutch plates at 30k miles. It started having ruff shifting and hesitation to shift. The suspension creaks when turning at slow speeds and numerous times to the dealer for that and Palm Springs hyundai can’t figure where it comes from. Also the ac randomly gets warm but doesn’t happen when the dealership tests it of course. Is anyone else experiencing these problems on their Elantra sport?

I've serviced it since I bought it and I noticed that the shifting issue happens but goes away after service. I have a warranty on the car so if ilethe shifting problem gets serious I'll send it in to get assessed. I know this version of the DCT gearbox doesnt shift as smooth as DSG gearboxes do so there that as well.
