    The 2017 Elantra is available in five trims: SE, Eco, Sport, Limited, and GT. The base SE model is pretty short on features. It comes standard with remote keyless entry, satellite radio, and a USB port. Most shoppers will be fine with a base model equipped with one of two available packages. The Popular Equipment package adds a 7-inch touch screen, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, cruise control, and alloy wheels. Better still, SE models with the Tech package gain blind spot detection, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and push-button start.
    The Elantra Eco and Elantra Limited trims come standard with all of these features. The Eco adds a more fuel-efficient turbocharged engine, while the Limited adds leather seats and Blue Link connectivity. Look for Limited models equipped with options like heated rear seats, a navigation system, and a sunroof. Notably, only the Limited trim is available with advanced safety features like forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control.
    If you want more athleticism, look for Sport and GT models. The Elantra Sport shares most of its features with the SE trim (with the Popular Equipment package), but it adds a stiffer suspension, revised steering, uprated brakes, and a more powerful turbocharged engine. Last but not least is the Elantra GT - the only hatchback in this lineup. Its standard and available features are fairly similar to the SE model’s, but it does have a more powerful four-cylinder engine. Expedition Money LLC

    I bought a 2018 and what I like most about it is what it doesn't have. No troublesome cvt or dual clutch transmission. No gasoline direct injection to cause carbon build up issues. No turbocharger to waste gas and shorten engine life. No complicated multi link rear suspension to cause alignment issues an to eat tires prematurely. Just a cheap and simple commuter car for the long run.

      Your points are exactly why I bought my 2018 Elantra over the competition, plus the long warranty and lower price. Unfortunately, it's been nothing but problems from day one. Very disappointed. I think I got a lemon.

      palebeachbum What kind of issues are you experiencing? I’m test driving some used 2017-2019 Elantras this weekend :/

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@datrizz Most notably, a rattle during moderate to hard acceleration. Elantra interior noise is very well insulated, so you have to listen closely with fan low (stereo off, of course). Also the engine surges getting up to highway speed and once cruising, it occasionally stutters. Pay attention to these characteristics during your test drive. Doesn't seem to affect all Elantras, but it's common enough. I think it has to do with faulty coils, from what I've read online. Whatever "coils" are.

    • @ES350gitgapped
      @ES350gitgapped 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ignition coils, an easy fix for a dealership that will be covered under warranty, given they've dealt with a production flaw and install good parts. Takes all of 20 minutes to do for a weekend mechanic.
      CVTs suck, and the dual clutch autos are sketchy, yes. After another generation or so, the dual-clutch will reign supreme even over manuals. The performance gained from using GDI is worth the carbon buildup on the valves. Get an oil catch can and do the GDI cleaning, and all is well. I'm hoping Hyundai/Kia will do the port+direct injection soon. Having a turbo or not, an enthusiast is going to drive with a lead foot, so even a modern NA 4-cyl can become inefficient. My 1.6T Koup SX is efficient enough, but we aren't buying turbo cars for fuel efficiency. We want to dust some bitches. If you're an A to B driver who could give a shit, yeah get a NA Corolla/Forte/Elantra

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ES350gitgapped My Elantra has been to the dealership 3 times for its poor running. They said they can do nothing until the engine throws a code. So I'm SOL until the check engine light comes on. Going on 10mos now. The Elantra GT (hatchback) offers a GDI engine of the same displacement as the MPI 2.0L in the sedan. It only makes 14hp more. Not at all worth the extra frequent expense of carbon cleaning recommended by Hyundai every 7,500 miles. MPI engine runs quieter too. No GDI tick at idle.

    This material is fine, comfortable, and SUPER DURABLE. And very similar to many cars today, you probably have too much air pressure in tires. I bought mine new and noticed after several days it felt every bump in the road. I checked my tires, all 4 were at 45 psi !! I Lowered them to 36, thats the correct psi. Made a big difference. After 4 years and 75.000 miles, car was purchased june 2016, it has been absolutely flawless, 0 problems, 0 repairs. Mine is loaded with all the goodies you would like. The value edition would please you quite well I think. I alway get 28 29 mpg in town, and 38 40 on the freeway, at 80 85 mph. Normal mode.

    Great car for the money!! I learned that if you buy one with lower miles that the first thing to do is change the plugs and coils. The factory coils and plugs suck!!!
    The quality and ride is impressive for a cheap car. I bought a 2017 from Hertz Rental Car Sales with 34,000 mi for $12,000 two and half years ago and now has 108,000mi
    and only thing i had to fix was coils, plugs, gas cap, oil pressure sensor and brake pads( all purchased on AMAZON) ,did it all myself. This car still runs and drives wonderful.
    I would recommend the 2017-2018 Elantra for a good used vehicle!!!

    Hyundai sells a lot of value, based on Consumer Reports. Used market is an opportunity for cash buyers as resale options are limited and Dealerships generally dump trade ins to auction. Cheers

      Interesting that the dealerships dump the trade-in to auction. I wonder if they get more money that way or the headache of selling used cars is just not worth the money. I keep telling myself that I'm going to snag me one of the Kia K900s that come back in after a lease because I like the cars, but I ain't paying $70K or a Kia. =)

    Very thoroughly and well presented review. It's hard to tell on video, but it looks like your rental did have the beige interior. A light gray interior is also available, in addition to monochromatic black. I too find Sport mode pretty pointless and annoying. For me the car isn't drivable in Sport mode. The throttle is far too jump and the revs stay way too high cruising. Needlessly wastes gas and makes extra noise. In Eco mode, I personally find the transmission overly eager to upshift and far too reluctant and unresponsive to downshift. I can't keep up with traffic in Eco mode. I'm averaging 35-37mpg in mostly city driving with short jaunts on the interstate. In 100% city driving with the AC on the whole time, I average 30mpg. In 100% highway cruising with AC on, I exceed 45mpg. It's phenomenally fuel efficient considering it's a fairly peppy car and not a subcompact. The interior fit and fit is top rate for the compact economy car class. I'm not a fan of the satin silver interior trim. Looks too cheap. I wish instead they had used the brushed chrome looking pinstripe trim that outlines the air vents and stereo pod area that you pointed out. That would have looked much more upscale IMO.
