Caution: Some cougars in the Pacific Northwest have developed a pack hunting strategy, where they surround the target and display disinterest, which is as much energy as they can safely expend. Known as the "Bored Cougar Behavior", animal behaviorists are still attempting to understand how the behavior benefits survival. "There are many strange creatures under the ocean..." -- Cousteau

One huge advantage of the 22 is that the ammo is super light. You can carry a box of 50 without noticing. You start noticing the weight of a box of 50 in 9mm or 38 special. I might be inclined to carry a can of bear spray and a 22 of my choosing.

Sure, it’s not immediately deployable like my .45 EDC, but it assembles quickly, is lightweight, and remarkably accurate. Plus, it breaks down and fits into the stock, which is waterproof, and floats.

It is only based on my personal experience: When firing signal shots (distress), the more mountainous the terrain and the more powerful the firearm, the slower the cadence of your three shots should be. In mountains, the echoes can sound just like additional shots. The more powerful the firearm, the greater the echo. I am sure others have other experiences, but this mine.

I doubt there is much pressure left at end of 16” 22 barrel, and then expansion from .22” to ~.5 drops pressure immensely. Pressure issue would be worse because of the judge’s short barrel. I imagine 410 still has powder burning at end of judge’s barrel - if it didn’t burst a pipe it would melt the plastic. Time to reject this concept as unworkable - the judge remains unredeemable and useless.

Great video, thanks. As a bush pilot on the amazon forest I use to carry a Drilling, cal 16x16 over 30-06 and I believe is the best survival gun, of course is a very special condition and situation, easy to pack and to kip at the tail compartment of the Cessna 185 with some assorted cartridges to cover any situation! Thanks again!

I don't usually need most of the information, but I do use the information when talking to non gun owning friends and it's valuable to less experienced friends when I point them to your videos when they ask simple questions that need a lot of unpacking

I live in the Midwest and spent years running a large river near me and camping on the banks and also out running in the woods camping, hiking, hunting and trapping. In my area we have Bob Cat's which don't bother people normally, Mountain Lions which can and coyotes. A coyote by itself rarely bothers a person but a pack can hunt and kill them in the winter when they are hungry or one with rabies in the summer can be aggressive. We have had wolves come and go in the area and one was just killed this year near where I live.
All that being said when I was out by myself I always carried a Rugger GP100 in 357 magnum in a shoulder or a chest rig depending if I was walking or riding a horse or a utility vehicle or in a boat or canoe. It was always strapped in tight so as not to lose it.
I often carried a 22 revolver with a 6 inch barrel or a Buck Mark in 22 LR in a hip holster with it loaded and a 50 round box of 22 ammo in my pocket.
I usually carried a 22 pistol anytime I was trapping or Coon hunting.
If I was out hunting for anything else I normally carried a shotgun or a rifle and the 357 on my hip out of the way of shouldering a long gun.
I grew up from a young age carrying a pistol of some kind almost year round in the country or woods because of dangers or dispatching vermin.
We have 3 kinds of poisonous snakes in my area and people used to carry a few rounds of bird shot in a revolver to dispatch them with.
We have Cotton Mouths ( Water Moccasins ), Timber Rattlers and Diamond Backs in our area.
Cotton Mouths are very aggressive, Timber Rattlers try to avoid you if you let them and Diamond backs are unpredictable. Sometimes they are aggressive if they feel cornered, sometimes they ignore you and go their way and sometimes they will lay right up alongside you or crawl right into bed with you for your heat at night.
We farmed/ranched and it was a standard rule that we just killed Diamond backs to protect us and livestock. They can overpopulate in an area quickly if conditions are right.
That is why we carried bird shot loads in our revolvers.
If we traveled into bear country we carried at minimum a 357 magnum and up usually big bore
revolvers or a 45ACP or 10mm. Also Bear Mace and a Bell with a magnet that you could quiet it with.
If I could only take one pistol and it had to be for all of those uses it would be my Ruger GP100 and several different loads of ammo. I would load or stagger them according to where I was at.
I can shoot bird shot close up for snakes and small animals. I can shoot quite a distance away at small game. I can take a deer with it. It can kill most medium to large game close in or 50 yards and under. The loud report can be heard a long distance away or could scare off a dangerous animal.
I have several speed loaders and can reload fairly quickly , even in the dark.
    I enjoyed this video.

I was bow hunting in Michigan from a ground blind with my crossbow and my S&W .40 that I carry. I had about a 3 year old black bear walk within 10 yards of me and kinda hung around for about 10-15 minutes. I never knew I could hold my breath for that long. I also think my ass sucked up the nylon seat I was sitting on and all I could think was “I wish I had a bigger gun”.

@@MB-uq8mb Over the years, I've had about half a dozen black bear encounters in the Yosemite backcountry. That region is crawling with black bears because of the High Sierra camps. There's just too much food available, and the camp visitors are usually careless about leaving provisions unattended.
During backpacking trips, I would have to be on the lookout for bears who are mostly active at night. So after dinner and before nightfall, I would put all my food high in a tree over a large branch using the double hang method. Invariably, a bear would come and try to climb the tree to get at the food. For a nocturnal animal, they are not that quiet. So, I would jump out of my sleeping bag, shout and wave my arms, and even throw rocks at the intruder, making sure not to hit him. If that didn't work, shinning a light in his eyes was enough to get the bear to climb down and leave. (Note that firearms are illegal in Yosemite, so rock throwing was my only option at the time. Now I also carry a walking pole with a sharp point.)
That was years ago. Bear behavior may have changed and maybe for the worst because of their extensive interaction with people.

@@chesslover8829 They're tampering with nature, and they're going to pay for it. The same sort of thing was happening at Yellowstone......right up until it burned down. Yellowstone was overpopulated by elk and so much debris had fallen from the conifers that fire destroyed everything, including large and healthy trees. The rivers were also flooding and taking a lot of soil with them because the elk had eaten all of the willows. That whole situation could have been avoided with a little hunting and a few controlled burns. Think about this, a lottery for elk tags in Yellowstone. They could cull the population AND generate some revenue.
